Chapter 82
Chapter 82 Lillian’s Coworkers
Early morning the next day, Lucian busied himself in the kitchen to prepare the first meal for his family.
While he waited for everyone to wake up, Lucian gave Austin a call. He had decided to bring Austin along to visit his mother later that day.
Austin is an exceptionally skilled doctor. I’m thinking of asking him to do a thorough examination of my mother. She’s already at the age where we need to pay more attention to her state of health.
Soon afterward, Austin arrived at their house. However, he had a gloomy expression on his face.
“What’s wrong?” Lucian asked.
“Lucian, you might only know me as a proficient doctor. However, I also have a hobby of raising venomous bugs. Previously, I managed to raise a superb venomous bug. A few days ago, I had the opportunity to have the bug reside in Dax Harrison’s body. However, I’ve noticed today that my venomous bug has been devoured by another bug! That old man must have found a professional witch doctor!”
Austin’s brows drew together in a slight frown.
“Would it cause you harm?” Lucian asked in a severe tone.

“Well, I’m not a professional witch doctor, and I’m not very attached to that particular bug. I’m worried about the other guy, though. Although my bug is still in its juvenile stage, it’s nevertheless a very dangerous bug! My venomous bug has the ability to kill the other bug that has devoured it. If that were to happen, it might cause the death of the witch doctor who had helped Dax!”
“What’s there for you to worry about, then? Come and join us for breakfast. We’ll talk about this sometime later.”
It was already eight when all of them finished their breakfast.
“Minnie! Have you packed your things? It’s almost nine, and we need to leave to see Grandma!”
Freya called for her daughter, who was still in her room on the second floor.
Minnie appeared on the top of the stairs with a backpack on. She rolled her eyes. “You dressed up so nicely to meet with Grandma. Shouldn’t I spend some time choosing my clothes so that I would look presentable as well? Look at my skirt. Doesn’t it look nice?”
“Of course! Minnic looks perfect in anything you wear!”
Lucian tried to help Minnie with her backpack. However, Minnie refused his help. “I’ll carry it myself.”

“Lucian! Here, take this!”
Annie handed Lucian an intricately decorated gift box. “I picked a bracelet out of the many gifts we received from the Grim Reapers. Give this to your Mom for me. I’ve checked the price tag and it’s worth more than three million dollars. We still have a lot of these gifts at home. If your Mom likes the bracelet, she’s always welcome here to pick another gift for herself.”
“Thanks, Annie. I’ll let my Mom know about it.” Lucian beamed widely.
After that, Austin drove Lucian and his family in an Audi A7 he borrowed from Liam.
Before they departed, Lucian called Lillian and found out that she was on a short break since they were having renovation work done at her workplace. Coincidentally, Lillian’s boss had brought her and her coworkers on an outing somewhere only a twenty-minute drive away.
The Sioux Riverside Park was a very popular place among the locals. Known for its picturesque view, the park received a lot of visitors during spring and fall.
Since it was almost nearing the end of the fall season, there weren’t that many visitors in the park. Lillian and her coworkers were having a barbecue party there that day.
Sitting under a tree, Lillian was working on her painting of Riverside Park. She had enjoyed painting the most back in the day when she lived the life of an affluent elite. After she was kicked out of the Gray family, Lillian didn’t have much chance to indulge in her favorite pastime since she had to work to sustain herself.
Yvonne Dupont was the youngest employee in their group. However, she enjoyed the company of the kind and polite Lillian the most.
“You draw so well, Lillian!”
七
Yvonne’s eyes shone with admiration. “I wanted to learn how to draw when I was still a kid, but my family couldn’t afford to send me to drawing lessons.”
“I can teach you during our free time.” Lillian smiled warmly at her.
Yvonne nodded vigorously as she beamed from ear to ear.
“Wow. So, you know how to draw too?”
Xandra Zeno cast a sidelong glance toward Lillian’s drawing. Then, she curled her lips. “We all know that you were once married to a rich man. Even if you’re graceful and multi-talented, what’s the point of you knowing all that when you’re working as a waitress? Aren’t you just trying
to show off now?”.

“Xandra, why would you have to say something like that?”
Yvonne despised Xandra a lot since the latter had a habit of bad-mouthing others. Moreover, Xandra would always try to bully Lillian.
Since Lillian had knowledge of the ways of the rich and powerful, their boss would always come to her asking for her help or advice. Eventually, their boss decided to pay Lillian an extra 200 dollars monthly for her help. This was also the very reason why Xandra had been giving Lillian a hard time.
“Did I say anything wrong?”
Xandra gave a scoff and rolled her eyes. “She is working as a waitress now. Does a fine hobby like drawing suit her? She’s clearly trying to show off and appear superior to us. What a snob!”
Her words completely infuriated Yvonne. The young lady stood up and rebuked, “What on earth are you going on about?!”
“Yvonne, don’t mind her.”
Lillian clutched Yvonne’s wrist and pulled the young lady back to her side. Then, she continued drawing. “We shouldn’t let what others say affect our mood too much. It’s like when you see a dog barking on the streets. The most rational thing for us to do is to ignore it. You couldn’t possibly expect that you could stop the dog from barking by lecturing it, right?”
Yvonne was briefly stunned after hearing Lillian’s words. Then, she burst out laughing.
“Who are you calling a dog?!”
Xandra fumed as she fixed Lillian with a glare.
However, Lillian merely beamed a smile at her and went back to focusing on her drawing. She didn’t bother giving Xandra a reply.
Xandra stomped her foot grumpily. Then, she decided to go back to the group to enjoy the food instead.
A short while later, a fancy white Porsche pulled up near the group.
“My son and my daughter-in-law are here!”
Xandra leaped to her feet at the sight of the car. She called out chirpily, “My son came here in his Porsche! Have you guys seen this car before? It’s a Porsche. Oh, well. None of you have probably heard of this brand before. That car costs more than several hundred thousand dollars!”
All eyes were on the car as soon as Xandra finished saying that. They were all looks of envy and admiration.

Soon enough, a short, plump man in an expensive suit got out of the car. A beautiful woman with a similar height followed beside him as they made their way to the group.
Xandra and the others also spotted a cute young boy beside the couple.
“Grandma!” The boy ski pped toward Xandra and clung to her leg.
“Everyone, this is my son, Narcissus Dumpty. That’s his wife, Amy. Finally, this adorable fellow here is my precious grandson, Johnson Dumpty!” Xandra had a look of pride in her eyes as she introduced her family to her coworkers.
Lillian’s gaze fell on the young child. She was instantly reminded of Minnie.
I… I haven’t seen my granddaughter for a very long time. I wonder how she’s doing these days…
“What are you looking at?” Xandra shot Lillian a contemptuous glare.
Lillian smiled slightly at Xandra. Then, she focused her gaze on her drawing board again.
Xandra carried Johnson in her arms and strutted toward Lillian. “That reminds me. Don’t you have a granddaughter and a disabled daughter-in-law, Lillian? I haven’t seen them for a while now. You should let our coworkers meet them too! Hahaha! Did you ask them not to drop by our restaurant because you were embarrassed about them?”
Lilian refuted instantly, “You can say anything you want about me! However, please don’t mock or ridicule my family!”
Xandra sneered, “Was I wrong, though? Your daughter-in-law is a disabled person who has to rely on a wheelchair to move around. Look at my daughter-in-law. Amy is an employee of the Infernal Group, and she earns a monthly income of more than ten thousand dollars! I just can’t help but pity you when I compare our daughters-in-law.”
Lilian dropped her gaze and said nothing.
Xandra felt even more pleased upon seeing Lillian’s response. She continued, “Oh, I’ve heard that your son is working as a security guard in the city after he’s completed his military service. He’s earning around two thousand dollars per month? Well, my son started his own business. He earns millions of dollars every year, and he even owns a big house in the city center. Sigh… I can’t help but replace you pitiful every time I think about how difficult your life is.”
Xandra was on cloud nine as the others started praising her son and her daughter-in-law.
Narcissus and Amy always manage to become the center of attention when I tell others how successful they are. My son and his wife are literally living the lives that many can only dream of. Lillian’s daughter-in-law could never compare to Amy!
“Mom, there you are!”

“Grandma!”
Just then, Lilian heard several familiar voices coming from the distance.
Everyone turned their eyes in the direction of the voices. Lucian and Freya were walking toward the group, hand in hand. On the other hand, Minnie was running over to Lillian at full speed. The little girl stopped before Lillian and threw her arms around her grandmother…
