A Relentless Pursuit for Love -
Chapter 244
Chapter 244
Being with someone younger really does make you feel youthful. Sage was laughing a lot on herway home. As she stepped into the Rosa Garden, she felt her steps becoming lighter.
It was getting late, most helpers aside from the night shifters had already gone to bed. The walls arethin in the house, Sage took off her heels and walked bare feet up the stairs.
A tiny figure was seen sitting in front of her room as she got up the stairs. Yeva had already movedout today, it was Leah. Why did Leah fall asleep in that spot though? “Leah.”
Sage walked towards her and patted lightly on her shoulder. Leah picked her head up from herfolded arms and looked at Sage. Dazed, she asked, “Sage, you're home.” Leah tried to pick herselfoff the ground but sat back down immediately because her legs had gotten numb from theawkward position she was in. Sage had to hold her as she stood up to balance herself. Sage frownedlightly. “Why are you waiting for me, is there something you'd like to talk to me about?”
Leah looked at Sage and nodded yes.
“Come on in."
Sage poured Leah a glass of water, she then walked into the closet to change into her pajamas. Shethen sat cross-legged on the floor. “What's going on?” “Sage, there's something I'd like to confessto you.” Leah looked at Sage with her tear rimmed eyes as she choked out the words. Leah wassitting on the mat, she felt as if it was not sincere enough, so she switched her position from sittingto kneeling before Sage. Sage could tell that there was something serious going on. “Tell me, what'sgoing on?”
Leah's face darkened, she bit onto her lips and said, “Yeva asked me something today before sheleft.”
Do you really think Sage truly cares for you as a sister? Even if she does, aren't you afraid that shemight replace out about what yours and my father did? Do you really think she'd be kind and forgivingthen? Sage squinted her eyes, she already knew what Leah was implying.
“Sage.” Leah forced herself to look into Sages eyes even though it made her feel exposed anduneasy.
“There's something that I've been wanting to tell you for a long time, but I was afraid.” Sage wasgetting impatient at that point. “Just spit it out, it's like you're constipated. Do you want to kneelhere all night?” Leah's head dropped as she hummed yes. “Three years ago, not long after you wentmissing. Uncle Braxton came looking for my dad, they got into a fight in the study room, somethingabout an uneven distribution of benefits...”
It was pouring down that night, the wind struck the windows unforgivingly. Leah had not been ableto have a good night's sleep for the past few days. Her eyes were swollen, leg was wrapped inbandage that rendered her limp while she walked. It was Sages funeral the next day. Leah was stillin denial, how could a person disappear just like that? Falling off a cliff without a trace or a body....
