Chapter 554 It was almost afternoon when Sage helped Jace up. She pulled out the table and setthe dishes she had brought on the table.

Jace smiled upon seeing the variety of dishes before him.

Sage was utterly confused when Jace started smiling and laughing, thinking it was odd andawkward.

Sage did hit his head, but she did not remember breaking his brain. Why was he laughing so much?"What's so funny?” Jace looked up at her and asked, “Don’t you think this is familiar?”

Huh?

Sage paused for a brief moment and eventually understood what he meant.

Touche.

Just a few days ago, Jace was the one who brought food and visited her in the hospital. Now, it wasthe complete opposite. Sage chuckled bitterly and said, “What a curse, us and hospitals.” Jace'sheart skipped a beat upon hearing the word “us’. His inky iris stared straight into Sages eyes; hisgaze was like the night sky filled with stars glowing with sparkles. “Why are you staring at me? Isthere something on my face?” Sage was oblivious to the flirting. She passed a pair of utensils to Jaceand said, “Eat.” “Okay,” Jace answered, like an obedient child. With utensils in his hands, he asked,"Have you eaten?”

"Yes. These are yours,” Sage answered. Sage cleaned up the table and was about to throw the trashwhen Jace stopped her, “You don't have to do this. Leave it to the care workers..."

“It's alright. It's not like I've never done this before.” Even though Sage was spoiled growing up, shestill had plenty of experience with chores and knew what she was doing. Jace’s heart sank as hewatched Sage cleaning up the room with agility. Sage was right. What had she not done when shetook care of him in the past. Aside from taking out the trash and sweeping, she even used to cleanout his urinal. On top of that, she gave him massages... How much love did she have for him backthen to be able to do all of those things for him?

However, back then, Jace was in too much pain and did nothing other than drown in his ownsorrow to notice Sage’s kindness. Anyone who got too close to him would get themselves hurt. Hetook everything for granted.

Guilt crept up on Jace when he thought about the past.

How disappointed and done with Jace did Sage have to be in order to sign the divorce paperswithout hesitation?

Tace should have known that love was never unconditional.

“Sage.” Jace held Sage's hand as she was sweeping the floor and stared longingly at her. “Stopdoing these. The reason I wanted you here was for a companion, not for you to be my servant.”Sage looked at him and asked, “What do you want me to do then?” “You don't have to do anything.Just do your own stuff. I just want to look at you, that's all.” Sage was speechless. She felt defeated, and she found Jace's affection and meek temperament to be unbearable.

Others would have thought that he really was in love with her.

Since Jace had stopped her from doing chores, she had plenty of free time to do her own work. Thereason she had Hunter set up an office corner for her was so that she could work even when shewas outside of Salem City.

Jace, too, had his own tasks that he had to work on during his recovery in the hospital.

Two CEOs worked on their own tasks in a spacious hospital room, one of them working ondocuments whilst the other having a phone meeting.

Jace got tired and leaned back on his pillow to take a break, at the same time observing Sage as sheworked.
