Alpha Elias -
Chapter 16
Her mind was silent. The world was silent around her. Myra could not hear the sound of the water dripping down on the ground. A deafening echo filled her mind as she heard whispers close by.
Myra opened her eyes slowly, not able to move from the ground she was laying on. Her body was numb, every inch of her body was in pain as she forced herself to sit up. Myra looked around the dark room she was in. She couldn’t see anything, her heightened sense felt so mundane.
Luna? She called out in her mind as she winced at the pain she felt everywhere.
Her mind was silent. Luna did not answer her as she heard rustling close by. The door slammed open, a light shining down on her. Myra closed her eyes tightly, flinching at the light that seemed to burn her skin.
“Alpha Jackson is going to be so happy you’re here.” A man chuckled as she heard him enter the room.
The bright light was removed from her face as it filled the room up. Myra didn’t glance at the empty room, instead she looked up at the man with the mask. He was the one that had injected her with enough wolfsbane that could have killed her.
Myra was immune to wolfsbane, though a lot of it, enough to kill her, could still affect her body like it was doing now. She was a basic human and could not shift, could not hear or breathe easily like a wolf.
The man lowered himself down and watched her move away from him. She couldn’t see his face other than his dark brown eyes that seemed to smirk at her. Taunt her. Laugh at her.
“Alpha Jackson and Alpha Tom are on their way here.” He said the words that grew fear in her heart.
They were going to kill her for running, for replaceing her mate that had no idea where she was. She could not mindlink him, to scream,to beg him to come and save her.
Myra was a weak girl who could never stand up for herself while there were males in this world that were hellbent on killing her. She was frightened, scared, terrified of being tortured again.
“I’ll kill myself.” She told the man.
She couldn’t die but she would try because she didn’t want to go back to being the broken Myra that every wolf loved to hurt.
“If you try anything like that, Alpha Jackson will kill all of your new friends. Lucy has told me a lot about you.” The man chuckled before standing up straight and walking away from her.
“You can’t keep me here.” She wanted to scream but her voice was a whisper, the fear inside of her destroying every drop of hope that had grown over the days.
He laughed and walked out of the door, leaving her in darkness that wanted to wrap itself around her and suffocate her to death. She would allow it if she so much as heard Alpha Jackson’s voice.
The darkness seemed to claw at her skin, at her face, taunting her, whispering how weak she was to not be able to fight.
Luna? Myra called out in her mind as her body started to burn.
She tried to control the burning but she could never do it.
Maybe her body would burn so bright, flames would destroy her.
The burning started to itch at her skin, making her scratch her arms, the pleading slipping past her lips. “Something is wrong!” She screamed at the door, as her scalp felt like a thousand needles were pricking it.
The laughter came from the other side, laughing at her pain as she screamed. Her insides burned as if the Moon Goddess had enough of her miserable life and was finally calling her to the AfterWorld.
She heard the steam hiss before she felt the cold water sprinkling down on her from the pipes above her head. A sprinkler.
She couldn’t hold in the moan as the freezing cold water touched her skin, cooling her down. The burning instantly stopped, having no control to go up against water.
The water never stopped falling down on her skin, sticking her clothes to her yet she did not care as she closed her eyes and raised her head up so her face was tilted towards the water that fell. Droplets of water hit her face, as she closed her eyes.
It stopped and she let out a sigh.
They had injected her with something to make her body burn again. She could feel the heart burning, igniting the flames inside of her to rise up and choke her. She couldn’t breathe.
Myra lifted her hands up at her throat, the sound of her breath echoing against the walls, but so faint to her hearing. Was she breathing?
The fire inside of her seemed to wrap itself around every inch of her body and squeezed her. She screamed.
The water hit her skin once again, her body hissing with steam.
They had found a new way to torture her.
“Alpha Jackson is on his way!” The voice called out to her, laughter of others filling her mind.
Myra wanted the flames inside of her to burn her so bright, her body would turn into mist. She would gladly accept it.
For minutes but what seemed like hours, the same process happened. She burned. They called her down. The burning raged inside of her, wanting to fight to water that gave her a minute of peace.
Myra was dizzy. Her head was spinning, and she could hear the doors opening, the sound of wolves ripping into each other somewhere far. Her eyes were distant, she could not focus on anything as she heard voices in her mind.
Listen to me. It was Luna’s voice and Myra wanted to weep, as she heard the voice saying her name over and over against. You’re losing focus. Listen to my voice. You have to get up and run.
The voice was so distant in her mind, it seemed like a memory. Every time she had run, something terrible had followed her. Myra was tired of running and she wanted to be left alone.
The water fell down on her skin just as the door opened somewhere close by.
“Myra.” Her name was a prayer on his lips, as she felt cool hands that were followed by sparks, on her face.
Elias.
Her mate.
She wanted to cry, to tell him she had enough but there were no tears, no voice left inside of her as she stared at him. His golden eyes were soft, as he cupped her face, gently caressing her cheek with his fingers. The silent tears that did fall, her wiped them away.
“I’m here.” He whispered to her, pushing her wet hair away from her body.
“I’m so tired.” She whispered back to him, her voice hoarse from all the screaming she had done.
“I’m taking you home.” There was a growl under his voice, daring anyone to say no. She felt his arms on her body as he lifted her up in his arms.
Myra noticed the man who had laughed at her, laying on the floor with his heart placed besides him.
She closed her eyes, not wanting to hear the sounds of people fighting as she felt the sun glaring down on her the second Elias took a step outside. Her body did not shiver though a part of her was cold. Her body did not burn anymore while in Elias’s arms.
He walked. She rested, letting Luna heal her body. There was not enough time in the world to heal the wounds on her heart that cried in sorrow for her.
She did not care.
Myra knew she was broken. She glanced up at Elias, a death glare in his eyes which was directed at the world. Never at her.
She wanted him to be proud of his mate. She wanted to be proud of herself for being able to fight. This world was unfair on her, making her second guess everything, harming her in ways she did not deserve, but she could not give up. She could not stop living because for once in her life, she had someone to love for. Elias.
“Put me down.” She said softly, knowing he heard her. Elias glanced down at her, a questioning gaze in his eyes but never disobeying her. He bent down a little and placed her on the ground.
Though her mind was spinning, and she could see the world in two colours, red and orange, Myra did not allow that to control her. She needed to push past the self pity, the pity every wolf had in their eyes when they stared at her.
She needed to be stronger for herself, to not let her overthinking mind control her. Myra needed a moment to stop and think and to tell herself she was stronger than this and no male could ever lay their hand on her without her consent.
She would not allow it. Not anymore.
Elias stood besides her, his fingers entwining with hers. She held his hand tighter, not caring if the world was staring at her and she walked.
She walked besides him, never ahead, never in front. She was his equal and there was a reason why the Moon Goddess paired them as soulmates. Elias did not say anything, but guided her back to his territory.
What seemed like it would take minutes to get back, took them hours because Myra simply did not care about anything right now.
She thought. She walked. She held his hand.
“I want to kill them.” Her voice was clear as daylight, sharp like a knife she wanted to use to slice their heads open.
“You can do it.” There was no hesitation in his answer. No we. Only her. She needed to do it, nobody else.
“Have you heard of Alpha Tom and Alpha Jackson?” She asked him, softly as he walked her down a path in his territory. They were going for a walk, while the others walked away from them.
“Yes.” He answered her instantly, as he pushed the branches out of her way.
“Do you know who I am?” She asked him, wanting to know if he had connected the dots.
“I knew who you were the first night you had been in my territory. It is your story to tell, and I have no right in asking questions you are not comfo with. I will wait for when you are ready.”
Her heart squeezed in happiness while Luna sighed dreamily in her mind. He would listen to her story, let her talk when she wanted too.
A small smile found a place on her face as they walked down the smooth path that seemed to never end. “I am Myra Emerson.” She wanted to tell him, to say the words she had never said out loud.
Elias squeezed her hand, telling her he would always be here. She talked. “Alpha Tom has been abusing me for years. It started when I was ten years old. My parents started before that.” She didn’t know how to word it without making it seem like she was a pathetic person who liked to call herself a werewolf.
“Every wolf abused me in the pack and the only reason I am alive is because I was to marry Alpha Jackson.”
“You married him.” It was not said with disgust, or anger. He wanted her to know that he already knew and he would never judge her for something that she could not have stopped.
“I tried to run. The day before my birthday, I tried to run from them all. I had heard the whispers of the Rogue pack who would kill anyone who crossed the border. I wanted to die.”
Myra was so thankful she had met Elias first and he had not killed her. She would never had had any good memories in her life.
“I was so close to running, to escaping them all because I knew they feared crossing the border. I was this close,” She showed him with her fingers which were barely touching each other. “Alpha Tom pulled me away before I could cross. I was dragged home by my parents, who hate me.” It sounded pitiful to say it, to have parents who hated her but Myra did not care.
She was tired of this world trying to replace ways to end her life and make her miserable.
“I was to marry Alpha Jackson on my 18th birthday and when my parents beat me, I lost track of time. I remember them whispering happy birthday to me, cementing my marriage with the Alpha.” Myra talked, telling her story to the only male she trusted. “That day, I married him. Both packs were united into one, forming a pack strong enough to take over the world.” She remembered the words she had heard Alpha Tom say to her parents once.
Elias listened, removing branches from above her head, or stones from the ground she walked on. He cared, he made it obvious and being with him, made her happy. She found peace with being close to him and she wanted to treasure that for the rest of her life.
“He took me to his territory and I knew what he wanted from me.” Elias’s hand tightened around hers, knowing where this story was going. “There was a voice in my mind, telling me to run that night, to run away and to never look back. Alpha Jackson-” Elias tugged on her hand, stopping her from walking ahead.
Myra turned to look at him. “Do not call him Alpha. He does not deserve your respect.” He said to her, and she smiled softly, as Luna mumbled how perfect he was in her mind.
"Jackson tried to rape me.” We carried on walking in what seemed like a tour of the pack territory. “My plan was to kill myself in his house. I was so tired of the abuse and the constant torture from them all, that I was going to end it. When I walked out of the closet room, he was standing there waiting for me.”
It was the first time she had said those words out loud. A small part of her felt relief knowing the man besides her would never judge for anything that she had been through.
“I ran because death was a touch away. I crossed the border and never stopped running.”
“Until I found you.” He raised their joined hands up and kissed the back of her hand.
“Sometimes I can hear his voice in my mind, the bond that was forced on me, screaming at me to run back, to fear him. I no longer want to fear people, Elias.”
It was out in the open. Her story, her life, was there for him to throw at her face, to laugh at her, and to tell how pathetic she was for not wanting to fear men.
Instead, Elias stepped closer to her, letting go of her hand. He cupped her face gently, a small smile on his face. “You will not fear anyone because you are Myra Emerson. The girl who survived.”
His words made her heart squeeze in pain, in hope and love. She was broken but she was surviving and he could see it. It did not bother him because there was love and patience in his eyes that seemed to shine at her.
“They will come for you again and what will you do?” He asked her, his thumb caressing her cheek as he took a step closer. “You will fight. I will fight for you because you deserve to be fought for.”
There was genuine love in his eyes as she watched him lean down and kiss her forehead. There was a line drawn with that kiss. They were more than friends but he knew he would have to wait until she was healed. She would heal when her abusers were dead by her hands.
“I will fight.” She promised him.
She promised herself that she would no longer be weak and she would fight because she was Myra Emerson. The girl who survived.
