Alpha Nicholas
Chapter 58 –

Bonnie

Hearing those words come from, Nathen I feel my spine instantly stiffen. It's pretty obvious that she's going to be scared, the girl has been dragged through the forest and thrown in a cell while all the other cells around her currently hold a bunch of assholes who I doubt are helping her situation, but the way Nathen said the words makes me think that it was meant differently.

Is she scared of someone outside? Is she on the run and looking for help? Was she running from something and stumbled upon these lands by mistake and now she's fearing for her life? Is she running from the kind of pain that I am? My mind hurts with all of the silent questions that I'm asking myself but then the logical side of me wakes up and more questions quickly come to mind like is she here to cause trouble or worse is she here to add more heartache to our lives? I may not have been here for long but there are already so many people that I've grown fond of and none of those people have had easy carefree lives and none of them needs or deserve any more heartache.

The girl that I'm looking at through the cell door looks small, scared and frail and after such a jaded life I've had to learn to question everyone's moves and motives and that's why as much as I want nothing more than to go into that cell and give her a hug, I don't. Instead, I cross my arms and zone in on her hoping that when she looks up she'll see the fire in my eyes and how much I'm willing to protect the people here if I need to.

"Who are you?" Nicky asks as he tightens his hold on my hand. He's being curious too but I imagine he has to be like that with everyone given his role and his responsibilities. He has so many people to protect that he can't afford to make any mistakes. After a few seconds, she looks up and I swear I feel Nick's whole body instantly tense up. "Hello, Alpha Nicholas." He takes several deep breaths his eyes staying glued on the girl in the cell while she returns the same stare and it's clear to see that they somehow know each other.

A pang of jealousy hits me square in the chest and before I even realise what I'm doing I let go of Nicky's hand and take a silent step back. It's pretty clear that they know each other or at the very least recognize each other and I can't help but shake the feeling that they know each other on some kind of personal level. Despite Lexi's voice telling me that I have nothing to be worried about I can't help the storm of insecure emotions that are storming my head right now.

"Rosie?" Nicky asks as my eyes begin to ping pong between him and the girl in the cells and I feel myself crumble slightly when she nods and gives him a small smile. "I don't understand... I thought you were dead... we looked... we searched!" The raw emotion in his voice just tears my heart even more and before I even realise what I'm doing I've taken several slow silent steps away from my mate and this Rosie girl all while looking at the floor hoping I've somehow become invisible.

"No, you don't!" My head snaps up as my mate gently grabs my hand and pulls me back towards him. "I can only imagine what you are thinking but it's not like that, baby. I can't explain it all right now but I will I promise, but until then all I can do is ask that you please... please trust me?" He looks straight into my eyes and despite everything inside of me telling me to run I decide to stay and trust my mate.

I've spent too much of my life either running or planning on it and I want it to stop, if Nicky and I are going to be mates then I have to trust him so I nod my head and let him pull me along all while I pray that he doesn't let me down. Please don't hurt me. We step back in front of the cell only instead of sitting in the corner of the cell... Rosie has now moved so that she is standing much closer to the cell door but still out of reach.

"Is he here?" Is who here?

"He's not here but he is on the pack lands."

"Do you think... could I see him? If he wants to see me of course." I watch as my mate gives her the gentlest of smiles. It seems like a genuine friendly smile but I'm still on edge waiting to replace out exactly what's going on here and who she is.

"Of course. Let me link him." His eyes glaze over as he links the mystery person while I continue to stare at this girl who looks broken and so sad and part of me starts to feel bad for how I reacted but I don't think anyone could blame me. Surely anyone in my position regardless of my past would react the same to this kind of situation just a few days after meeting their mate.

"He's on his way. I have so many questions I want to ask you but I know that he will want to hear the answers too and I'm not going to ask you to answer them twice so we'll wait for him but, Rosie, I hope you are prepared to answer anything we ask because this is just mind-blowing. I haven't told him who's here, just that he needs to come here to see someone. Something like this he deserves to learn face to face."

"Of course, I understand, Alpha Nicholas."

The next few minutes are spent in silence as everyone here seems lost in their thoughts but I soon realize that I'm just as anxious to know who she is as I am to know who is on their way here and what the hell is going on. Thankfully, it's only a few more minutes before we hear the loud bang of the entrance door as it shuts and then I feel my breath hitch when Tony comes running down the hallway while Nicky jumps forward taking me with him as he stops Tony from seeing who's in the cell. "What's going on, Nick? Who's here that I need to see?" He's slightly panting and it's clear that he's run all the way here but I wonder how he'll react to replaceing out about his visitor. "Tony, about an hour ago Nathan, Daniel and Micky found a girl out in the forest. She claimed not to be a Rogue and she didn't smell like one either but she wouldn't tell them who she was. She would only speak to me so I came straight down here."

He takes in a deep breath as he runs his free hand through his hair. "Who is it, Nicky?" I can feel the tension running off Tony's body while I'm still full of nerves also eager to know who she is. "Tony, it's Ro-" Before he can finish his sentence Tony starts sniffing the air and his eyes flicker between black and blue and I have a feeling that his wolf is trying to take over control. "Nicky who's in that cell?" His voice has gone from concerned and worried to more aggressive and confused and I don't blame him. He lost his first mate within hours of meeting her so if this is what I think it is and that girl in the cell is his second chance mate then I can't even begin to imagine how he's feeling right now.

"Tony, what are you doing?" I can see Nick's brain ticking over and I'm pretty sure that he's come to the same realization as I have but the shock on his face is a whole new level. "Is she your mate? Is she your second chance mate?" Nick asks him as he takes a step closer to him. Tony nods right before he starts sniffing the air again. "Who's my mate, Nicky, please tell me." He seems to have lost some of the aggression now and if anything he appears scared and I don't blame him.

"Fuck... it's Rosie... Tony Rosie's in the cell." I watch as Tony's face turns into a mask of confusion only it doesn't last long as realization takes over as he tries to grasp what Nicky said. "Rosie.. as in Opals Rosie? As in my first mate's little sister, Rosie?" "Yes, that Rosie."

"So you're telling me that my second chance mate is the little sister of my first mate who died?"

"It would appear so, brother."

"Holy fuck!" Yeah, you could say that.
