Chapter 40

It seems like we've been laying there for hours before we finally decide to get up. Malachi getsdressed for a meeting, and even though we just had some great sex, seeing him in that suit ismaking me want round two. "How do you expect me to let you leave the house like that?" I whine, looking at him with an intense gaze of lust. Malachi smirks, He knows he’s sexy. "You know I onlyhave eyes for you, Luna" He assures me, grabbing me around my waist and pulling me into hisarms. "I know, and if another girl looks at you, they will end up like blondie,” I admit with a smirk, smacking his toned butt. "Go get 'em, tiger! Oops, that's the wrong phrase,” I laugh, covering mymouth like I'm innocent as I walk out of the room. "LUNA!" Malachi yells, but I close the door andwalk to Paisley’s room.

Malachi left for his meeting, and I'm finishing up Paisley's bath before I have to meet my mother.Paisley kicks her little feet in the water, slapping the bubbles and giggling. "You like that, don't youbaby girl?" I say in a baby voice, 'l never understood that until now why people talk to babies thatway." I get Paisley bathed and fed then I lay her down in her crib. "Goodnight, sweetie" I say, kissingher soft cheek before running my fingers through her brown hair.

I walk out of the Paisley's room, closing the door softly, and head for the stairs, taking two at a time.I make it to the bottom and replace Paul and Amelia sitting on the sofa cuddled up. "Aww, you guys areso cute,” I squeal, walking to Amelia and pressing a kiss to her cheek. "Where are you going?"Amelia asks curiously. "I feel like taking a walk. Can you listen for Paisley,” I ask her, continuing forthe door. "Of course, Have fun!" Amelia shouts as I walk outside.

I walk through the field closest to the forest. I take a deep breath through my nose when I catch thescent of my mom. “Chloe,” my mother mind-links and my eyes dart around the area, replaceing her bythe rocks near the creek bed. I walk to her, taking a seat on the ground, and she sits as well. "Whydid you leave earlier?" I ask, giving my mother a clear expression of annoyance. “Chloe that man isbad, you need to stay clear of him,” she says, her wolf's eyes never leaving me. "Stay away fromwho? I'm so confused" I continue to look at my mother in bewilderment. “Cypress is dangerous. Heis the one that gave Sukie the wolf hair she needed to do the spell on your father and me,” Sheexplains.

I lose all my words and stare at my mother, blankly. "Sukie did this to you?" I ask, searching herwolf's eyes. “Yes, she was my best friend but was always jealous of my powers” she tells me, and myexpression hardens. "I'm going to kill her,” I growl under my breath. “Chloe, you must be carefularound them. Their motives are never what they seem to be.” She warns me and I stand with nohesitation. "Paisley!" I say out loud, turning on my heels and rushing for the house. “Take care,Chloe” My mother urges. I link to my mother. “GO! Find a safe place, and I will come for you whenit's safe for you to return,” I declare, still running for the house.

I run back through the tall weeds in the field and enter the yard through the gate. As I'm comingaround the corner, I see Malachi and some pack members sitting on the porch. He turns to me witha smile. "Hey, gorgeous. Where have you been?" He asks, looking down to see my clothes dirty fromthe field. Malachi stands with his brows furrowed. "Were you out there alone” He growls. "I don'thave the time to explain. Where is Cypress?" I demand, trying to catch my breath. I bend over tograb my stomach like I just ran a marathon. "Why? what's going on?" Malachi asks with fearcrossing his face.

I walk past Malachi into the house, running up the stairs to Paisley's room. I creak the door to peekinside and replace she is fast asleep. I run down the hall and continue to search every part of the house, looking for Cypress with Malachi at my heels. "Luna, tell me what is going on?" He demands, grabbing my arm to stop me. I turn to him. "Your father is a lying piece of shit!" I shout, opening thedining room door to search there.

Malachi stares with a confused expression as he continues to follow me. "Cypress helped the witchthat put a spell on my parents, and that witch is the one that helped you bring me back to life," Iexplain. "What?! My father helped? That bastard,” Malachi snarls, gritting his teeth and balling hisfists. "I'm going to kill the witch," I declare, going back to my search. "Luna, wait," Malachi says, pulling me against his body. With my back against his chest, he wraps his arms around me. "I knowyou are upset that this has torn your childhood apart, but we have to be smart about this. To catchCypress, you must have a plan. He has the witch on his side, so we'll need another witch tooverpower her spell” Malachi explains in a calm soothing voice.

I replace myself calm and leaning into his embrace. "I love you, wolfman,” I whisper, laying my headagainst his bicep. Malachi and I walk to the couch with him still holding me in front of him. He sits, and like always, 1 sit in his lap, cuddling up in his arms. "Luna, I know you want to figure this stuffout right now, but we have our wedding coming up. Let's give ourselves some time to deal with ourfuture and when we get back from our honeymoon we can get straight to work" Malachi suggests, kissing my cheek. I nod, taking in his scent as I nestle my head in his neck.

There is something about being in his arms that takes away all the worries. "Chloe, things will bebetter for us. I promise you one day there will be no more drama, and it will just be you, me, andPaisley living happily ever after,” He says, rubbing his forehead against mine. Malachi caresses myface coming inches from my lips when I hear glass breaking. "AAAHHH!!!" Amelia screams from thekitchen. "AMELIA!" I shout, getting up off Malachi's lap, rushing for her.
