Be My Man, Mr. Jenkins By Flora Julius -
Chapter 1
Chapter 1
It was October. The autumn breeze blew through the withered maple leaves on the tree.
Adriane Stewart lay on the hospital bed. Her bluish veins were visible under her pale skin. She could feel the cold drips that ran through her veins.
She lost so much blood that she had no strength to lift her hands. Thick gauze covered her eyes, and the dark world made her feel even more desolate.
The cardiac event monitor by the hospital bed made a mechanical beeping. One beep after another rang in Adriane’s cars, like an emotionless reminder that her life was coming to an end.
Someone opened the door and walked towards Adriane. Then, she heard a disdainful and mean female voice saying, “Sister, it’s thanks to your blood
that I can stay alive this time.”
Hearing Juliette’s voice, Adriane struggled to get up, but her body was heavy. All she could do was whimper like a dying beast.
Juliette glanced at Adriane’s body which was now like a pathetic rag doll, with her beautiful eyes. Her fingertips–brushed over the corner of her eye, and she grinned, “I have your corneas in both my eyes. They work perfectly as if they were tailored–made for me. Would you like to see how beautiful my eyes
are now?”
Then, Juliette gasped intentionally and covered her mouth lightly as she said, “Oh, I’m sorry. I forgot. You can’t see anything now, sister.”
Adriane’s heart ached, and her eyes hurt as she listened to Juliette’s sarcasm. She wanted to get up. But Juliette’s h shoulder, making her unable to barge. She tried to curse, but all she could do was utter hoarse painful moans.
hand pressed hard on Adriane’s
“And that new song you recorded for me. It is now a hit, and I got an invitation to the Grammy Awards. Thank you, sister, for making me the new diva of the music industry!” continued Juliette.
Adriane could feel Juliette’s cold fingertips sliding on her throat. It felt as though Juliette was going to strangle her with that hand: soon.
“Too bad. I wish I could have your throat, too.”
Finally, Adriane managed to utter a few words with her sad and hoarse voice, “Alexander, help me….
Unexpectedly, Juliette laughed when she heard what Adriane uttered. She mocked, “My silly sister, you still expect that Alexander Jenkins will help you? He can’t even help himself now. His youngest uncle is now hunting him, wanting to kill him for what he had done.”
What Juliette just said startled Adriane! It left her in deep thoughts, “No. That isn’t true. He had told me that he would come to rescue me when he settled everything. It’s just Juliette had arrived before him.”
The woman who was grabbing Adriane’s throat burst into laughter again and spoke with her voice which was mean as ever, “Well! I’ll tell you the truth since you are going to die soon. He was the one who told me your whereabouts. And that great fiance of yours has been making use of you from the very beginning!”
Adriane was stunned. She did not want to believe what Juliette told her, but she had to because Juliette did replace her.
A burst of pleasure struck Jufiette when she saw the once dazzling sister she had, who was better than her in every aspect, was now lying on the hospital bed like a torn rag doll,
Juliette continued in her disdainful voice, “Do you think that Alexander really wants to save your most precious first time on your wedding night when he said he didn’t want to sleep with you? He thinks you’re disgusting! Do you know? He would hold me and praise me with the most beautiful words every time we had a pleasurable moment in bed! And you? You are just a tool to him. Do you think you can win his heart?”
Those words crushed Adriane’s last hope. She stopped struggling.
Juliette loosened her grip and looked at Adriane’s bruised neck with satisfaction. She pulled out the needle on Adriane’s hand and her oxygen expressionlessly.
Adriane’s breath became heavy, and her heartbeat slowed down. She felt like an enormous hand was pulling her into the abyss, and she was never going to wake up again.
Chapter 1
If only my mother hadn’t died when I was ten. I would not have been sent to an orphanage and adopted by the Stewart family. Maybe I can escape the destiny of becoming Juliette Stewart’s blood bank.
If I had not met Alexander when I was eighteen, I would have lived a better life instead of killing others for him and doing everything against my
conscience.
If only I had seen the Stewarts for what they were and gotten out of their clutches. I might not need to live in darkness. Maybe I will escape from the fate of becoming the backdrop singer for Juliette and giving up the glory which is mine>
Too many feelings of reluctance to die and resentment filled Adriane’s heart as those thoughts flashed in her mind. As her blood pressure soared, the stitches on her eyes split open. Blood dyed the thick gauze.
Between hazy consciousness, she heard someone push open the door harshly and barged into her ward. Adriane could vaguely hear a heart breaking wail from a man, “Adriane! My daughter!”
Adriane knew that could not be her foster father. But according to her mother, her biological father was already dead. She began to wonder who that
man was.
However, she could not see nor speak. Bloody tears flowed down her cheeks.
With the regrets of everything she chose this birth, her hands fell helplessly on the bed, and her breathing became weaker and stopped. Her heart
stopped beating as the cardiac event monitor blared its alarm.
At the last moment, when her consciousness melted, Adriane sighed. If she were given another chance, she would take back everything that belonged to her and make the Stewart family pay for what they had done to her
Rumble!
Thunder rumbled, and the bolts of lightning lit up the sky.
It was as if something drained the air out of her lungs. The feeling of suffocation made her hold her hand over her chest, and she could hear nothing but
her hammering heart.
Looking down, she saw her bare and pale skin.
Her consciousness gushed into her brain, and the dizzy feeling of fainting dissipated slowly.
Someone gave her a hard push and scolded, “Adriane Stewart! I told you to get dressed. Don’t you understand simple English?”
Adriane raised her head slowly. In front of her stood a middle–aged woman in her forties with a mean look on her face. She wore a housekeeper’s
uniform.
The feeling of death still seemed to haunt her, and she had been blind for so long that she had no idea what was going on.
It made her wonder, “Is this the world after death? Why does this woman in front of me look a little familiar?”
Josie Burton gazed into the dark and beautiful eyes of Adriane. Those eyes were so mesmerizing that they almost captivated her.
The girl wearing only underwear had perfect skin, which was as white as snow. Her dark hair hung on her shoulders, and her features were as beautiful as ever, even though she had only light make–up on her. She was only eighteen, and she would surely turn into a beauty when she grew up
However, the look of a daze on Adriane’s face sparked Josie’s anger. But she had a mission given to her. As anxiety struck her, she pinched Adriane’s tender thigh and urged, “I am talking to you! Are you deaf?”
The sudden pain pulled Adriane out of her daze, and she let out a low groan. In that pair of clear eyes emerged a look of disbelief.
Not only did the pain remind her that she was not hallucinating, but it also reminded her of where she was now.
No wonder she felt the woman was so familiar. That woman was Josie Burton, her etiquette instructor. That maid was there to teach Adriane etiquette

and prevent her from making a fool of herself at her engagement party with Arthur Jenkins!
But that was when she was eighteen All kinds of questions emerged in Adriane’s mind, “Why is this happening again? I’m travelling back time if this isn’t
a dream?”
