Betrayed by My Pack – Wolfless Hybrids Escape -
Chapter 48 –
Saoirse's POV
I was actually very glad to see that Alexei is no longer holding back from Cara. I have known how he felt about her from the moment I met him. He would die for my daughter, and his feelings for her were very strong. As far as I was concerned, he would love her until their dying days, which made me very happy. I was glad that whatever happened while I was gone resulted in what looked to be my daughter now accepting Alexei as her mate.
Cara blushed as Alexei set her back on her feet. I don't know how long he had kissed her, but it was a very romantic scene when I returned. Alexei had her dipped back, and her hair was almost touching the floor as he kissed her thoroughly. Maybe I should leave them alone more often. I am definitely glad that I made our rooms soundproof now. I may want grandchildren, but I surely do not want to know when they are trying to make them."I have decided to accept Alexei as my mate, mother," Cara told me with a blush. "So I see, Cara," I teased her.
I was very happy for them both. I was most happy that they were no longer trying to hide their feelings from each other. That had been the holdup for them, and I was glad that everything was out in the open now. I then felt a tug of shame hit me, as I knew that I was hurting Robert. "Attention! We appreciate your support and know our true fans will enjoy the I knew his feelings for me, but I still remember how I felt after James marked another after having marked me. The pain I felt as my mark dissolved. The humiliation of realizing that I was just a conquest for him was still fresh to me.
I have not had a relationship since. I could not allow that to happen to me again. I tried to force down the argument from my heart. She knows that this is different. Unlike James, I can tell that Robert's wolf is claiming me as his mate. He wants me just as much as Robert does. That has been the reason that I hadn't moved forward with telling Robert to move on. I wanted him, too.
Robert is a very attractive man, but that is just a small part of it. He is funny and kind, which are two things that James lacked. I know that Cara wants us together, but I don't know if I am strong enough to give him that chance. The heartbreak that I had felt had been horribly real. I was a shell of myself for five years after it happened. Robert saved my daughter. He got her to safety and realized she was hurt before anyone else. That is a very big plus in his favor.
"OK, I need you to put these in your arsenal, Cara," I told her as I stepped up. I pulled out four pointed stakes from my bag. These magical bags help us. They are invisible and carry things we can't just conjure up. We can create fireballs and ice spears from the earth around us. I just went to get something case-specific that Alexei had told me he thought we needed. I had gone to Australia to get some stakes made.
Australian Buloke is the hardest wood in the world. Alexei told me that he wanted me to get some Stakes for Cara and me. I had teleported there and had a total of 10 stakes made. Four for Cara, four for me, and I planned on giving the witch that lives here at Black Adder the other two. I have heard that she never leaves her home, from what I have heard she is terrified. The main reason that she doesn't leave her home is because Jana and another vampire had chased her. Alexei and his team saved her which also told me what I needed to know about Alexei. "Unlike just pulling from the surrounding area, having these in your arsenal will protect you. So, we will be working with the stakes today. We will do that for the first hour. You can also use an ice spear to pierce a vampire's heart in an emergency. I have done that myself to feral vampires. The trick is it doesn't kill them. You have to act fast to finish them. You will be working on that in the first two hours of class. Then we have you blocking my attacks. But I will show you how to protect yourself and attack back simultaneously this time," I told her. I already knew that she was not going to like what you have to do to finish off a vampire. She was going to have to rip off their head. I already knew my soft-hearted daughter would have an issue with it. I would have Alexei show her, as he has dealt with feral vampires before. They gave all vampires a bad name, but I would create a real lifelike dummy for her to practice on.
One, she would know how to use her powers to help her remove the head. That was something we would cover when the time came. I will also show her that she will need to burn both the head and the body afterward with a fireball. You have to be thorough with a vampire. I know that Cara is strong, but you have to be willing to go past that to end a vampire. I may have to do it myself or have Alexei do it. Now that they are on the same page, I am even more sure that he will not allow Jana to hurt her.
I had my friend smooth down the wood and put a thin wrap on the end you hold. Your hand must be sure when throwing it or using it by hand. I would always suggest throwing it, but vampires are so fast you could miss them. The only way around it was to learn to use your magic to make the projectile hit exactly where you wanted it to. Cara practiced the first hour with a stationary stand to throw at the heart, where I placed the target dummy.
"Throw harder, Cara. You need to penetrate the rib cavity to hit the heart. We will practice with the target moving next, but you need to use your powers to make it hit the right spot. I will also let you practice hand-to-hand on this, but that is very dangerous. Vampires, the feral ones, are there to try to kill you. You need to work quickly and efficiently. To make this work, you must focus on freezing them in place. Hold them still to stab them in the heart. Avoid their mouth, and lay them flat on the ground using your power. Then, use your legs on their shoulders to help you rip their head off. I wish it were easier. I wish you could just kill them with a flick of the wrist. It would definitely be safer. But to kill someone who wants you dead, like Jana does, you have to be ruthless," I told her.
"Your mother is right. You will never have a problem with me or my team. Jana, and potentially Anika, maybe another story. If you do not feel that you can kill her, let me know. I am still trying to replace her somewhere else to go, but she is a difficult coven member. I cannot lie to them when they ask me questions about her. If I have to, I will end her myself. I will not allow her to get anywhere near you. She has caused problems for me with Jaxon and is now causing Jaxon's warriors issues. That cannot go on. I will not allow it. We have had a good relationship with Black Adder for the last fifteen years. We are safe here, and I do not want to move my coven. It is an easy choice for me on what I need to do," Alexei replied.
"I don't know if I will want to do it. But I won't allow her to win if it comes down to her or me. Just tell me what I need to do. So, this practice dummy is like dealing with a vampire? Will the power I use to do this be about the same?" Cara asked.
"Yes, it is. I will run the practice dummy to you, like an actual vampire attack. I need you to freeze it, hold it in place, and stab it in the heart. Use your powers to restrain it before laying it down on the ground. Quickly go to the head of the dummy and put your hands under the jaw. Place your feet on the dummy's shoulders to help you. Once you are ready to pull back on the head, you must also push back with your legs. Use your powers to help you pull the head free of the body. It is very difficult to separate a head from a body. Pull hard. You will not get extra chances to get this done in real life. You can use a sword if needed. I can tell you that in real life, you are also working with adrenalin, and using that and your powers will make it easier," I told her.
"Ok, I'm ready," Cara said about two minutes later. She looked determined. I hope she is because, like with anything else, I will not make this easy on her. She has to learn, and for that to happen, this needs to look like an actual attack.
Everyone else was standing on the wall across from us, and I was standing about five feet away from Cara. I pushed the dummy all the way back to the far wall about sixty feet away. When it turned to come at us, it looked just like Jana had this morning when she ran to attack Cara. I heard the gasps ringing from the wall. I ignored them and made dummy Jana's arms move. Her face morphed into attack mode, and her teeth extended to bite Cara. Cara was shocked by seeing Jana coming at her, but that only lasted for two seconds.
Cara's arms extended and stopped Jana ten feet from us. I upped my power to use Jana's arms to grab Cara, but Cara kept control of the dummy very well. Cara ran forward, sank the stake into Jana's heart, and put the dummy on the ground. Cara wasted no time getting it into place. Alexei moved closer and called out instructions to her. She listened to him, and the next thing I knew, Jana's head was thrown about ten feet away from her body. Cara immediately threw two fireballs, one from each hand. One hitting the body and one at the head. She had done an excellent job and slowly stood up from the ground. She looked stressed.
"Mom, you didn't mention that you were going to make it look so real," Cara got out before leaning forward and bent over, holding her knees with her hands. I waited until she regained her breath before walking up to hug her. "You did perfectly, Cara. I am so proud of you. You did exactly what needed to be done. Do you want to try again?" I asked her.
"Maybe tomorrow, Mom. That was a lot. Can we learn how I can attack while putting up my defenses now?" Cara asked."Of course," I told her. She needed to work on that more than the dummy attack. Alexei and I will not let her be alone after nightfall again. I believe that she should be safe for the next few days.
