Lena's POV

terrified at the moment.

It was almost eleven pm, and I was still waiting here for Jana. She was supposed to meet us here at ten-thirty, but she texted that something had come up. I didn't know what it was, but Phillip said she was upset when he spoke to her. I didn't like to hear that at all. Most are unwilling to help others, especially if they are angry. I was nervous here anyway because she is a vampire. I was already worried before he told me that she was upset. He had to leave me here to go catch up with his patrol. He had used one of his breaks to meet her with me. I am absolutely I am flinching now with every sound I hear. Only Phillip knew I was meeting her here. She could hurt me, and I would be totally screwed out here alone. I set it up here because the armory was always locked and secure at night. No one came here. The weapons are used during the day. Only an emergency would cause someone to come out here tonight. The armory was actually two buildings that had been built side by side. There were about ten feet between them, and that was where I was standing, in the shadows between them. The first building contained guns and ammunition. It takes up the whole warehouse to store them and is actually the bigger of the two buildings. The ammunition is clearly labeled on each shelf, and the bullets are kept in heavy boxes to store them. The bullets get rotated so only the newest are stored, and the older ones get used first. The second warehouse has regular bows, crossbows, and a huge supply of arrows for each. There are also a number of targets that are stored there as well. Swords to practice with, as well as smaller items that ranged from machetes to hunting knives, are also kept here.

I stood between the two buildings, hidden in the shadows, with my heart beating like a drum. I was terrified of being caught. The minute I stepped out of the shadows to leave, a low feminine voice behind me caused me to jump in fear. "Ready to leave so soon?"

I grabbed my chest as my heart leaped in fear. "Jana?" I asked. She nodded in amusement at my reaction to her speaking.

"What did you want me to meet here for?" Jana asked directly. Good, straight to the point.

"I have a problem, and I am hoping that you might be willing to help me solve it," I told her.

I watched as her smile grew larger and scoffed. "Why would I want to help you? I am friends with your brother, not you, Lena. What would possess me to do you a favor? What's in it for me?" Jana asked.

"I need to get rid of three people on the night of the Luna ceremony next week," I started out. I watched her face as she frowned at what I was saying. She will understand why very soon.

"You want me to kill three people for you? Are you out of your mind?" Jana asked and then laughed lowly before saying, "Sorry, no can do. I am supposed to be on my best behavior at the moment."

"Not kill them. Help me get them out of the pack. You can jump over the wall surrounding the pack with your abilities, right? Can you do it while you are carrying someone else?" Lena asked. I can see her get serious now at what I am asking. She is interested in why I am doing it, and I knew I had her. "I could," she answered cautiously.

"You can't tell anyone about this, not even my brother. Can you agree to that first before I tell you who I need help with?" I asked her. I could see the questions she had showing in her eyes. She is very interested now. I know the moment I tell her who I need to deal with, she will be ready to accept helping me. She is in the same spot as I am in this. She wants Alexei, so I am sure she will be fine helping us.

"I can keep it a secret from Phillip. Who am I going to tell about it anyway? I probably don't even know them," she responded. I can see her clear interest now, and I know it is time to strike.

"I want to hand over Cara, Brenna, and Luna Sims, on the night of Brenna's Luna ceremony. I believe you already know who Cara is already. I need all three of them to be knocked out. Not killed. We need to take them out to an area in the woods to be handed over to some members of their former pack. All I need you to do is help me get them to and then over the fence. I have heard that vampires are strong. If you can't carry two, I will put two on my back and carry them to the wall in my wolf form. Would you be interested in helping me get that done?" I asked her.

I had watched Jana's face turn from stunned to interested and then to a smile. She was thinking about what I asked her, and it was good that she hadn't immediately rejected me. She didn't immediately respond, so I started talking again. "Like I said, I can carry one in my human form, but not two. I believe I can in my wolf form, and I will be faster that way. But if you can carry two of them, we can handle them quickly. Time is of the essence in this. We have to get this done in less than ten minutes. Once they are out of the pack, we are done. We need the men taking them to get at least a thirty-minute head start. I plan on getting a disturbance caused when we go to take them. It won't last long, so we must go as fast as possible."

It was another two minutes before she said, "I will require some money to do this on my end. Alexei is mad because I went after Cara this morning. He wants to force me out of the coven. I don't have anywhere else to go, so I will need the guys who want them to either give me money or allow me to live in their pack. I will require a home near their pack to ensure my safety. Either that or two hundred and fifty thousand dollars. Alexei does not want me. Even if Cara disappears, he will not accept me as his. I don't have any other choice in the matter." "That isn't good. I am sorry. I thought that this would be the answer to your problem. I can't offer that without getting their permission. I can't call him this late. His mate will be upset. I can call him tomorrow and meet you again tomorrow night. Here, if that is OK with you?" I answered her. I can't just agree to it, no matter how badly I want them gone. I wish I could, as Jana is pretty intimidating. She honestly scares me, and she knows it.

"It would have been if you had come to me a few days ago or even yesterday. I thought I could catch her alone and deal with her. But she put up some kind of protection, and I couldn't get through it. If I could have, trust me, she would be dead now," Jana told me, and I couldn't stop the shudder of fear I had at how coldly she said that. Killing was in their nature. They were known to be killing machines, and I took a step back away from her to give me some space. It didn't escape her notice, and she lowered her fangs when she smiled at me this time. I knew she knew what she was doing to me. My only saving grace was that my brother knew I was here with her.

"Your issue isn't with me, Jana. I am sorry that happened, but I can promise you one thing. Once the men have them back inside their pack, none of the women will return. The men will fight to keep the three women in their pack. Even if you don't get your HEA with Alexei, he won't be able to have one either, so that is a positive. The girls don't want to go there, and their lives will be miserable. So, at the very least, they and Alexei will certainly suffer. Jaxon will, too. If that makes you feel any better," I advised.

She seemed like someone who would value the fact that even if she didn't get what she wanted, Alexei wouldn't either. Her smile told me I was right before she replied. "Alexei's suffering will help, but I will still need what I asked for in return. I need a small home with no windows. Nothing too fancy. I need to be safe, so they must ensure I am. Otherwise, I will need a quarter of a million dollars to replace somewhere to live my days safely. I am sorry. I knew you expected me to do it for free, but unfortunately, I can't anymore," Jana reiterated.

"I will call them tomorrow and see what they can do. I don't have the authority to agree to either of your requests, so I will pass your requests along. I will also stress to them how much we need your help to get this done. Give me your number so we can communicate together. I don't want Phillip to know what I am planning to do. The fewer people who know about it, the less likely I will be found out," I responded.

"Why are you doing this, Lena? What is your prize for sticking your neck out like this?" Jana asked.

"I want Jaxon. I have cared for him for a long time, but he doesn't want me. Once he loses Brenna, he will be upset, but he will eventually get over it. I plan on putting myself in front of him to show him how valuable I can be. I am not going to allow her to take him away from me. She is a rogue and is not worthy of being the Luna here. I would rather Jaxon be alone and just as miserable as I am than allow him to live a happy life with her. I can completely understand how you feel about Alexei. I am sorry that it didn't work out for you. Sometimes, men cannot see what is best for them, even if we are right in front of them," I told her, my voice catching at the end.

Jana nodded at me, and we connected for the first moment since we met. I wasn't as scared of her in this moment anymore. She had been hurt by a man who couldn't see her value either. I felt a little bad for Paxton's Luna, who was in the same boat as us. But I didn't feel bad enough about it to not go through with our plan. He had taken a chosen mate. She signed up for whatever shit Paxton was going to put her through. Cara, Brenna, and Luna will be her problems from now on. My work will be done as soon as they leave Black Adder. I have a sneaking suspicion that Jana is also about to become her problem. Again her problem and not mine.
