“How did Harvey get your number?” Rebecca muttered in confusion.

Sean shrugged. He browsed his name on the internet and quickly found the answer. “Take a look at this, there’s an article about us spreading online, and my number is clearly posted on my clinic’s website. What do you want me to reply?”

“Harvey?” Sean exclaimed in surprise. “This is the same number that texted me earlier.”

Rebecca swallowed hard, her heart pounding faster and her appetite disappearing in an instant. “May I?” she asked, asking permission to take Sean’s phone.

Sean nodded while continuing his dinner.

Rebecca took Sean’s phone and pressed the green button.

“Mr. Parker?”

“What do you want?” Rebecca snapped, her voice trembling and her breath uneven due to her disarrayed emotions.

“If you’re done. I’ll end this conversation, Rebecca hissed coldly.

You shouldn’t be here, just take Lily with you and go somewhere far. You might think I’m stupid, but I know you and Sean aren’t real, Harvey said calmly.

Rebecca felt anger filling her chest. She clenched her fist so tightly it broke the chopsticks in her grip.

“First, no one is going anywhere because we’ll stay wherever we like. Second, Sean is a responsible man I can rely on, so you’re wrong, Harvey. What’s happening between Sean and me is real, so stop terrorizing Sean and mind your own business!” Rebecca snapped, then pressed the red button to end the call. In front of her, Sean stared at her in shock.

“Sorry,” Rebecca said, then blocked Harvey’s number and handed Sean’s phone back to

him.

“He’s really testing me, Rebecca muttered with quick breaths.

Sean didn’t react, he continued his dinner in silence.

“I’m so done with this, I’ll show him we’re not pretending! Good night, Sean.”

Rebecca cleaned up her dishes, then walked to her room quickly, really angry at Harvey.

She checked on Lily, who was sleeping soundly, kissed her gently, then went into the bathroom and soaked her stiff body in the bathtub. With her eyes closed, she inhaled the lavender scent deeply, trying to calm herself, and it worked. She wasn’t as angry as before.

That night, she applied lavender behind her ears and on the soles of her feet and slept soundly like a baby.

The next morning, she woke up with a heavy head because Lily had woken up several

times during the night. She frowned at the voices outside her room. She washed her face and walked out.

“Sean? Who are you talking to? Rebecca asked while drying her face with a small towel.

“Becky!”

Rebecca turned and saw Angela sitting on the sofa enjoying a cup of chamomile tea.

“Angela!” Rebecca exclaimed happily. She half–ran to Angela and hugged her warmly.

“Glad to have you here, Rebecca said, throwing herself onto the sofa next to Angela.

“Glad to be here too! I had to step in personally to make sure your wedding preparations are going smoothly,” Angela said, grabbing Rebecca’s hand and holding it warmly.

“I don’t know what we would do without you, thanks, Angela,” Rebecca said sincerely.

“By the way, where is Sean?” she asked when she didn’t see Sean anywhere.

“He’s out buying the wedding ring. For that, I wouldn’t represent him. I asked him to take you, but he said you’d be tired since Lily kept waking up last night.”

“Wedding ring?” Rebecca muttered, half disbelieving she would be getting married again. She felt like a problematic celebrity who marries and divorces in the blink of an eye, and it wasn’t something she could be proud of.

“Yeah, um, Becky dear, I haven’t had the chance to say this properly, but I want to tell you how grateful I am that you acceptet Sean and helped him out of the darkness in his life. You should know that you and Lily are a light for us,” Angela said, her voice trembling with emotion.

Rebecca swallowed hard, feeling guilty for lying to Angela, but at least the idea of Sean. having a family in Manhattan was better than being a doctor who never left his clinic for his entire life.

“I’m as grateful as you, Angela. I didn’t expect to replace a man willing to be a father to Lily. Sean and I, we’ll learn to heal each other,” Rebecca said, her voice choked because those words were so true. They were two wounded people trying to heal and live normally.

“Listen, Becky. Just focus on yourself, your little family, your career, and ignore the noisy voices out there,” Angela said, making Rebecca frown and wonder about the
