Coming Home For Christmas -
Chapter 59
Logan's P.O. V.
You know the saying it's too good to be true? well, I never really understood the true meaning of this saying until this morning.
I was at work having a meeting with the board of directors which also featured my father and my brother because the. miserable old bastards were growing impatient with me after I kept putting off meeting with them to address my situation with Lacey and the kids. The main reason why I was putting off this meeting is because I was waiting on the papers which legally prove Lacey is my wife and the children are mine.
The papers include our wedding certificate, change of name applications and also the positive DNA test we took at the behest of my wife who wanted to make sure our baby's futures was safe and secure and couldn't be threatened through a loophole which we could've prevented earlier on.
Despite having all of this information which was legally binding by the way, the board still weren't happy and one of my board members Lee kept asking me about GiGi and in his words 'where does she stand now that Lacey and I are married?. I made it very clear to everyone at the meeting that GiGi was only a friend to me and there never has or will be anything romantic between us. Anyway, it was during this meeting that my day took a dreadful and dramatic turn when both Cade and my assistant Sophie who has done a total one eighty since the day Lacey showed up at my office and announced that she's my wife,
, burst through the door of the meeting room
startling everyone and pissing me off. "Sir" "Logan"
Sophie and Cade said at the same time.
"What the hell, guys? I'm in a meeting"
I growl at the stupid pair.
"I'm sorry, sir but this is important"
"How important, Sophie?"
Cade and Sophie share a look with each other before looking back at me.
"You need to go home, Lo, Lacey needs you"
Cade said making my heart rate speed up
"What do you mean? is she ok?"
"I'm sure she's fine, sir but she's gonna need you"
Sophie said pissing me off even further.
"CAN YOU TWO PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THE f**k IS GOING ON WITH MY WIFE?"
growled as I slammed my fist down against the table causing everyone around me to flinch.
"It's the Carpenters, Lo... they're making a statement to the public about her"
What?
I immediately ran out of the meeting room and went straight to my office to get my coat and phone before leaving my building and getting in my car. "Get me home, ASAP"
"Yes, sir"
My driver says as he starts up the car and drives off.
I tried to get hold of my wife but she wasn't answering any of my calls.
"f**k!!, answer your damn phone, Lacey"
Just as I was about to call her again, my phone rang and the caller was my home phone.
"Hello Lace, is that you, babe?"
"Daddy"
"Princess... princess, are you ok? where's your mommy?" I ask Teddy who fell silent and if it wasn't for her breathing then I would ve thought the line had been cut. "Teddy, what's going on? where's mommy?"
"She's crying, daddy... she's in your room and she's crying, I don't like it, daddy, she hasn't cried like this since Dayton broke his arm after jumping on his bed" s**t.
"Don't worry, baby, I'm on my way home"
"Please hurry, daddy, I don't like seeing my mummy so sad"
"I'm coming, princess, I promise you"
I remained on the phone the entire drive to calm my daughter down which wasn't easy because I was worrying and panicking myself and I wanted nothing more than to be at home comforting my poor little wife. Hold on, baby, I'm on my way.
Lacey's P.O.V.
My anxiety is running so high right now.
Not too long ago, I was sitting in my office working on my new novel when I received a weird text message from an unknown number and the person claimed to be my brother
Liam who was begging me to turn on the news
At first, I ignored the message but then I got another text from the same number which just said please, so that mixed with how intrigued I was, is how I found myself sitting on the couch in my living room anxiously watching and waiting for the news to come on. I was bored with waiting and I was ready to get up and go back to my office because whatever it was wasn't worth risking my anxiety for but then the news came on and my heart rate picked up when I saw a split screen with a beautiful blonde on one side and my parents, all three of my brothers and Dylan on the other side looking like they're at a press conference.
Oh god, what the f**k are they up to now?.
"Breaking news, one of New Yorks affluent families the Carpenters who are members of the exclusive circle known as the elite are throwing an impromptu press conference inside of their home today, rumours are already circulating about why they're doing this with many believing it's to address their youngest son's recent public and drunken escapades while others believe the family want to address the recent return of their daughter Lacey who showed back up in New York after a six-year absence with a bang, the heiress to the Carpenter fortune announced at her grandparents annual Christmas party that not only is she the wife of fellow elite member and billionaire businessman Logan Black but she's also a mother to Logan's three children as well" The Australian host says making my anxiety spike.
Normally, this accent is very calming and relaxing to me but not right now it's not, especially when the girl on screen decided to be a shady b***h for no reason
I don't know how Lacey could possibly have three children with New York's most eligible bachelor, especially when the alleged couple are said to have never had any interaction with each other before she left but I'll guess we'll have to wait for the Carpenters princess to explain that one to us"
Urgh!!, condescending b***h.
"It's called s*x, that's how ninety percent of babies are made for f***s sake"
I growl at the TV.
Everyone knows how babies are made but this girl is acting like it's a foreign concept to her, then again she looks like the type who would struggle to come up with an answer for two plus two.
The camera then switched from being on the obnoxious news reporter to the camera inside my parent's mansion and I couldn't help but scoff and. roll my eyes at the set-up they've arranged.
They're sitting in the family room where there's a huge family portrait of us which they've made sure is perfectly on show, they've also set up several framed family photos including ones of me with my parents and others with my brothers both separately and together.
They're also dressed and looking immaculate with no creases or hairs out of place, all in all, they look like they're trying to portray themselves as the picture perfect family unit.
"Mr and Mrs Carpenter, why have you arranged this meeting with us today?"
One of the reporters asked my parents who looked nervous as f**k.
"We're doing this because we want to right all of the wrongs we've committed against our daughter
Lacey... we've sat back and watched as lies were spread about our daughter and she was blamed for the breakdown in her relationship with Dylan and we want to rectify that. here today"
"We also hope that by doing this, it will help our daughter to heal and maybe one day she can replace it in her heart to forgive all of us and give us a chance to be in both hers and our grandchildren's lives"
My mom said and I felt a painful stab in my heart when she mentioned her grandehildren and being in their lives.
"Why are you doing this now? why didn't you do this when everything first happened?"
Good question.
"Well, Lacey had run away from home and we had no clue where she was or if she was ok, we were so worried for her and her safety that we put all of our time and energy into trying to replace her...we hoped to deal with all of this after we had safely brought her back home but then days turned into weeks and then months and before we knew it, six years had passed"
"Whether Lacey or anyone else believes this or not, our main focus these past six years has always been both our daughter and her safety, everything else was irrelevant until we found her... that's why we're doing this now to right a wrong"
My dad says and I scoff while rolling my eyes.
You're right dad, I don't believe you.
"And it's got nothing to do with the fact your daughter is now married to Logan Black?"
The reporter asks and my heart skipped a nervous beat.
They'd better give the right answer to this because the wrong one will demolish any chances or future chances they may have had for a happy reconciliation with me in the future.
