Chapter 77 Protective Mother
Anna and Yoel were taken aback. They quickly rushed forward to hold him.
“Look at this…” Anna’s heart ached for the child who had suffered so much. She cast at displeased glance at Cynthia. “If it weren’t for the scene you caused back then, the child wouldn’t have misunderstood. You can’t entirely blame him for this, can you?”
Cynthia calmly looked at Anna. “Even if there was a misunderstanding, not all children would resort to violence. Are you implying that Lukas suffered in silence?”
Anna avoided her gaze, saying in a deep, resonant voice, “Given the circumstances, we can’t possibly let the child go to jail, can we? There are still the juvenile protection laws to consider.”
Yoel’s face darkened. “Mom! What are you talking about?”
Anna finally relaxed her expression. She said to Cynthia, “Given the circumstances, let Fergus apologize to Lukas. We will also cover all the medical expenses.”
“Mom!” Yoel looked at Anna in disbelief. However, Anna continued with a heavy heart, “You and Yoel will eventually become a family. The squabbles between the children can’t really be taken too seriously, can they?”
Even though she felt a deep affection for Lukas and Luna, Fergus was, after all, her own grandson. He had suffered quite a bit over the years. As Fergus had pointed out, Lukas and Luna had already enjoyed plenty of their love and care in the past couple of years. So, she thought it would be harmless to let Fergus have a turn then.
A pang of unease struck Yoel’s heart when he heard Anna’s words.
He quickly turned to Cynthia, about to offer an explanation, but was abruptly cut off by her.
“Indeed, Lukas and Luna have been under your care for the past two years, but that doesn’t justify Fergus‘ actions toward Lukas. As a mother, I can’t and won’t forgive this.” The icy determination in her eyes startled Anna. Just as Anna was about to say something more, Yoel stopped her.
“The fault lies with Fergus this time. As his father, I owe Lukas an apology, L…” He lifted his head to look at Cynthia, but the words got stuck in his throat.
With a stern expression, Cynthia said, “Let’s put an end to this matter now. Lukas needs to rest. Please, you all should leave.”
Chapter 77 Protective Mother
Given the crowd and the chaos, he couldn’t say much. He simply said to Cynthia, “I’ll come to see Lukas again tonight.”
Cynthia hesitated slightly, but in the end, she didn’t refuse.
Upon returning to the ward, Lukas had already started to wake from the anesthesia. Seeing Cynthia, he instinctively reached out, wanting his mother to hold him. However, Cynthia stopped him by saying, “You can’t move your hand. I’ll hold you.”
Cynthia stepped forward, pulling Lukas into her embrace. Lukas‘ eyes welled up with tears ast she looked up at her. “Mommy, why did Fergus push me?”
The pain from an unexpected injury was nothing to Lukas. What truly hurt him was the sudden betrayal from Fergus.
Cynthia was momentarily at a loss for words. She didn’t know how to explain the intricate relationships behind Lukas. All she could do was attribute everything to his jealousy.

“It’s not your fault that you’ve been hurt. It’s their hearts that are flawed,” Cynthia gently said, “We shouldn’t shy away from connecting with others just because we’ve been hurt. Only through connection can we truly see the vastness of the world.”
Lukas, in his innocent confusion, nodded subtly and silently buried his head into Cynthia’s embrace.
As evening fell, Yoel arrived at the hospital, looking utterly disheveled.
Upon seeing him in such a state, Cynthia was somewhat puzzled. “What’s happened to you?”
Yoel wore an expression that spoke volumes of his unspeakable troubles.
“We reviewed the surveillance footage and discovered that Fergus had met with Lynda. during the time he vanished from the mansion. However, no matter how much we pressed. him, Fergus refused to reveal what she had said to him,” Yoel revealed.
Most importantly, after this incident, he realized that Fergus‘ obedience to Lynda was almost blind, even surpassing the typical obedience a child has for their mother.
“I suspect that Fergus‘ actions toward Lukas might be connected to Lynda,” Yoel said, furrowing his brows.
Even without any evidence, he had a peculiar premonition.
