Chapter 8: Heartbe…

Chapter 8: Heartbeat

Moments

Lexie suddenly opened her eyes, replaceing herself

face–to–face with Grayson’s handsome face. A surprise flickered in her eyes, and she

couldn’t help but blurt out,

“What are you doing here?”

Meeting so soon after just a few hours caught her off guard.

Grayson was in an navy blue

Armani suit, looking

polished and graceful.

“Visiting an elder,” he said, his black eyes meeting Lexie’s. “How are you?”

Lexie, locking eyes with him, felt her heart skip a beiat. “I’m fine,” she replied.

“I mean here,” Grayson pointed to his chest, the

position of heart. “Most women would choose to cry

their hearts out at a time like

this. Would you like to try?”

He handed her a

handkerchief.

Lexie hesitated, but then

smiled faintly. “Crying won’t

solve anything, and why

shed tears for someone

unworthy?”

“Does it hurt a lot?” Grayson

asked.

Lexie looked at the swaying willow branches, her gaze

drifting. In a low voice, she

murmured, “How could it

not hurt…?

She thought true love would warm a man’s heart, but

turned out that man’s heart

was never here.

Grayson’s eyes lingered for a

moment. “Crying for something not worth it is

indeed not worth it. Save

your tears for those who

cherish you.”

His words made Lexie’s heart

race. Looking into his dark

eyes, she felt a bit flustered

and looked away.

Grayson kept going, a bit unsure in his gaze. “Why stick around if you know he’s not thinking about you? It’s easier to part ways and stop the agony.”

Lexie, surprised, met his

gaze.

They only met a few times, and dropping those words was a little too much as they were basically strangers.

However, Lexie had to admit

that Grayson’s words made

sense. Letting go was better

than clinging. And as time

went by, Abbie and Callum

would be nothing in her life.

Taking a deep breath, Lexie regained her calm. “We’ve

already separated. There’s no

connection between him and

me anymore.”

There was a hint of surprise in Grayson’s eyes, but he

covered it up pretty fast.

Attempting to play it cool, he maintained a steady tone.

“Passion without a response

should be dialed back. Ms.

Baily is way more

free–spirited than I

expected.”

“As you said, rather than dragging out the drama and getting tired of each other, it’s wiser to let go. Plus, true generosity is in giving willingly, not just begging and accepting whatever

comes your way.” said Lexie.

Grayson raised an eyebrow,

appreciating her words. “On

this point, I agree with Ms. Baily.”

The conversation rolled on

seamlessly, no

uncomfortable silences, and

time seemed to vanish.

“Mr. Grayson, Madame Elizabeth is calling for you,” an elderly woman

approached. She looked at Lexie with a kind expression. “If this young lady is

available, why not come along?”
