Recap
I didn’t wait to replace the lever on our side, no, I used my magic and opened the wall, looking down at the pathetic person on the ground. “Well, well, what do we have here? Came to assassinate us in our sleep. How’s your plan coming along?” I asked sarcastically, crossing my arms across my chest, anger coating my face and words.
I watched as Ares picked up the person off the floor...
Ares POV
“Who the hell are you?” Ares asked as he shook the woman.
“She’s your cousin, Ares. She told me she was-”
“-yeah she’s my cousin but she’s always had visions of grandeur. I’ve told her over and over to not go against our new King by following Dean but she thought he would make a great King, especially since she’s his mate, right, Darla?”
“No! I was checking the tunnels to make sure there wasn’t anyone around. I was trying to do my job,” Darla protested.
Windy slapped her palm to her head. “Now, I get it. She was spelled to make me think she was with me. You played your part well. But, it won’t save you now. Don’t try to deny it, I know exactly what is in your mind - exactly what plans you had for me and my mate.”
“He’s mine. You weren’t supposed to replace your mate. He was human and wolves don’t mate with humans!” Darla spat at my mate as I shuddered.
“There was never a time I would have taken you as a mate, you power-sucking bitch! And, if wolves don’t mate with humans then why did you think you were going to?” I spat right back at her as I still held her.
I watched as my mate moved quickly. She grabbed Darla's hand and crushed it as Darla screamed. When she bent Darla’s hand back I saw the silver blade in her hand. My mate grabbed the blade and tossed it on the bed as she grabbed another one sending it to the same place as before. My mate was a badass, sexy, incredibly beautiful, and a woman who could give anyone a run for their money. And, I couldn’t wait to spar against her.
“So, you were going to kill the Royal Beta female and take me as what? Your mate?” I sneered as I paced in front of her. To think this twat wanted me as her mate. I knew she was going to use Ruby to spell into thinking my cousin was my mate.
Sick.
Perverted.
Bitch.
“Duck!” Windy screamed in my head, making me duck quickly. I spun around on my knees and watched a blade impale itself in the vampyres head - right between his eyes.
I reached over as he fell and twisted his head off his shoulders, hearing my mate tell the bitch not to move. I spun back around and noticed Darla had a blade in her hand, trying to shake off my mate's order. Hell, I could hear and feel how powerful my mate was. There was no way Darla could move after her order. I could barely move.
“Now, Darla, you will be going in the cells along with Dean. You are not to leave the cell no matter what! I don’t care if the whole place is burning! You will walk with the guards to the cell without giving them any problems! You, Darla, are not allowed to speak until your trail! If someone tries to teleport you out of the cell, you will come back to the cells!” My mate bellowed, power in her voice.
There was a knock on the door before it slowly opened, revealing two guards. “She will follow you to the cells, I’ll be there in a few minutes,” my mate, Windy, told the guards.
They bowed their heads to both of us. “Yes, Royal Beta’s.”
I waited until the door shut and took a deep breath. “How are you so calm?” I asked as paced, running my hands through my hair.
Windy teleported to me and pulled me into a hug as she rubbed my back. “I’m sorry you had to see what she did-”
“-I’m not worried about her, Windy.” I paused and looked into her eyes. “I’m worried about you. I don’t understand how your heartbeat didn’t jump or your breaths pick up, at least, hitch. But, you were calm all the way through her shit.”
She smiled at me and kissed my lips quickly. “I read her mind. I knew she was going to try and hurt me, plus, it’s not new to have someone to try and kill me, unfortunately. I’m the Moon Goddess’ granddaughter and my mom’s name is Summer, you know like Alpha Summer.”
My eyes widened and I shivered. “But, she was pretty nice to me. Wait! Does that mean she could back up threats?” I asked, my eyes going wider than they were.
I watched as my mate nodded, a sly smile on her face. “Who do you think trained me? When I was human I could take down a full-grown male wolf.”
I shook my head a couple of times and laughed, pulling Windy to me. My mate was incredible. I knew what it meant to be human in a werewolf world. I seriously thought I was the only person who could handle wolves. And, her mom taught her to take care of herself. And, her mom was Alpha Summer. I needed to remember how strong her mom is.
“Oh.” She paused, grabbing my attention. “And, every child we have will be stronger than my mom and me.”
“How will we keep any pups we have in line?” I asked incredulously.
“We show them how to act. It’s what our mom did with us. My littlest brother's mind better than Trace and Chase do,” my mate explained, laughing at the expression on my face.
I nodded and followed her out the door. I wasn’t sure what she needed to do but she wasn’t going without me. I didn’t trust anyone in this castle and never have. I knew I could trust the King and my mate, her family too. But, that was about it. I knew she would need to replace another warrior for both of us. Yes, I could pick my own but I trusted her to pick someone better than I would.
It didn’t take us long to get to the cells. The guards bowed to us and opened the door with their thumbprints. I needed to remind her to put ours in the system too. We would need to take off the rest of the traitor's prints before they came in and tried to take our prisoners.
“Royal Beta’s.” A guard bowed to us. “Do you need me to show what cell Darla’s in? Oh, and great job figuring out she was a traitor.”
“We won’t need you to show us where, but thank you,” my mate told him as she looked him over. “Do you have warrior training?”
“Yes, Royal Beta, I do,” the man told her.
My mate looked at me. “Do you know him and do you think he is okay? I’ve read his mind and it looks good, but I want your opinion too.”
I nodded my head and told him we would talk to him later. I heard her whisper to him, letting him know he might be our warrior if it pleased him. I had never seen him smile before and it was a little imitating. My mate was good at letting people feel special and needed. She was amazing and I was so thankful she was my mate. I didn't think I could say thanks enough to the Moon Goddess.
