Empty. That’s how I felt. The spell she had cast held for a solid ten minutes, but it felt like years. I was helpless as my mate was taken away from me. I had tried to track them down the moment it let up, but there was no scent to go on. I didn’t let that stop me. All night I continued to try to sniff her out, but it was clear they had used strong magic to cover their tracks.

I felt useless, numb, and broke. I wished she was in front of me, telling me she hated me. I’d take that any day over this parting. The sun was now rising, and I had nothing. I returned to the penthouse, which suddenly felt big and cold without her presence.
