Chapter 88

Thaddeus pulled up outside Evadne’s villa. He rolled down the window, looking at the warm lights inside; thinking about Jareth and llana inside, his heart felt as stuffed as

cotton.

His forehead was furrowed, and his sweaty palm was holding a cell phone. On the screen was a picture of Ilana wearing a silky, se xy camisole nightgown, her graceful figure partially hidden and partially visible.

Back in the day, she would only wear those loose white cotton dresses, like a maternity dress, not at all showing off her figure. Now divorced, she has totally transformed into a se xy goddess, attracting men’s attention everywhere and making them swoon!

Thaddeus’ solid chest heaved as he looked down at the photo, loosening his meticulously tied tie.

Meanwhile.

Jareth watched Evadne devouring her food, his face turning green with envy. He was pampered by his mother since childhood. Jareth had his first sip of cola at fifteen and his first bite of fried chicken at eighteen.

Spaghetti Bolognese? Mexican burrito? Such commoner food could never enter Mr. Jareth’s mouth.

“Aren’t you eating? It won’t taste good when it’s cold,” Evadne asked casually.

“I’m… I’m so happy, I don’t know where to start…” Jareth fumbled with his cutlery, giving an awkward smile.

“It’s just a plate of spaghetti. If you like it, I have a whole box of it. You can take it home when you leave.”

“No, no, no!”

Jareth gritted his teeth and stomped his foot, ready to take some hardship for the sake of winning Ilana’s affection!

So, he forked some spaghetti, bulged his eyes, and took a big bite. Jareth felt spi cy chilli go straight down his throat, making his eyes bloodshot and his tongue numb.

If he continued eating, he would suffer from unbearable pain! He glared at Jason, only to see him wearing an innocent smile, which revealed his mischief,

“Can’t handle spi cy food? You should have said earlier…it’s quite hot, huh?” Evadne considerately poured a gla** of water for Jareth. Just then, the doorbell rang.

“It’s so lively tonight. Let me check.” Jason went to the door and pressed the video call button. The moment Thaddeus’ handsome face appeared on the screen, Jason’s heart tightened, and he took a half step back.

“I’m looking for Ilana.”

“Jason, who is it?”

At this moment, Evadne and Jareth, who was still coughing and red-faced, came out. Both were taken aback when they saw the man on the screen,

“Did you… Did you tell him?” Évadne reacted quickly, her sharp gaze stabbing into Jareth’s face.

“Ilana… I didn’t have a choice. Thaddeus threatened me!” Jareth’s eyes were filled with tears, covering his chest, coughing, and still recovering. “He said…he said if I don’t tell him where you live, he will cut off our friendship. And he also said…”

“What else did he say?” Evadne frowned.

“He also threatened… that he would not divorce you. As long as you two are not divorced, neither I nor Cas sius can be with you.”

Thaddeus was so shameless!

Evadne was so angry that her eyes were red, and her hands clenched into fists. She stormed over, pulled Jason behind her, and coldly said, “What right do you have to be at my doorstep? Leave immediately, or I’ll call security!”

“Ilana, come out.” Thaddeus’ brow furrowed, his tone somewhat irritated.

Evadne sneered, “Who do you think you are? You ask me to come out, and I should?”

“Jareth, you come out,” Thaddeus called out to Jareth directly, his eyes red.

“I’m not coming out.” Jareth knew his brother’s temper well and was somewhat afraid.

“Jareth!”

“Mr. Jareth is my guest. He came to give me a special gift. Since I’ve accepted his gift, I obviously won’t ask him to leave.”

Evadne’s voice was deep. “Mr. Thaddeus, you are not welcome here. Please leave!”

Just as Thaddeus was about to say something, Evadne turned off the intercom. The screen went dark, but his angry eyes lingered before her. This man dared to threaten with divorce. He was shameless! Did he think a divorce certificate could control Evadne for a lifetime?

“Ilana, I’m sorry.”

Jareth sniffed his spi cy red nose, feeling a little uneasy. “It’s all my fault, I shouldn’t have told him…”

“It’s not your fault.”

Evadne took a deep breath, and her fists clenched. “It’s all Thaddeus, that shameless man! He just doesn’t want me to have a good life!”

Jareth was always proud in front of women, and those who pursued him had to be respectful and dare not make a sound. At this moment, seeing Evadne angry, Jareth, the dominant man, finally felt the sense of being suppressed, and he was really scared.

There was a loud rumble outside. It was going to rain.

“Let’s go back and finish our food. Just ignore him.” Evadne stormed off.

Jareth stood there, looking at the door, suddenly realizing, Oh my go d, what she just did, what she just said… was she pretending all along?!

Soon, it started pouring.

Evadne and Jareth were sitting by the floor-to-ceiling gla** window, drinking coffee and chatting.

“Honestly, I had some prejudices about you before. Before getting to know you, I didn’t realize you were such an interesting person. And you’re kinder than I thought.” Evadne took a sip of her coffee and said sincerely.

“Ilana! You… you actually said I’m kind? Did I hear you wrong?!” Jareth was so excited that he could hardly express his feelings. “Really, Ilana, I’m so touched. I will remember your compliments for the rest of my life. I will even engrave it on my tombstone when I die!”

“Stop it, or I’ll throw up.” Evadne laughed.

“Ilana, if, I mean if. If you met me before you married Thad… would you like me? Would you give me a chance to pursue you?” Jareth took the opportunity to express his feelings to Evadne, slowly moving closer to her. He knew he wasn’t a good man, but for her, for the first time, he had the idea of turning over a new leaf.

“No.” Evadne answered firmly.

Woosh-

Jareth was drenched from head to toe in metaphorical cold water. “Why?”

“I won’t fall in love with anyone else if it’s not Thaddeus. And without Thaddeus, I won’t fall in love again.” Evadne stared at the rain on the window, her face as quiet as the pitch-dark night.

Their relationship had spanned thirteen years, from their first meeting to marriage and then to divorce. She had given him the most pa**ionate love, the brightest smile, and the deepest devotion of her life. She just didn’t have the energy to love someone else again.

Some people’s hearts were still beating, yet they were already empty.

Jareth looked at her desolate profile, his heart aching. She was only twenty-four, but the desolation in her eyes, the despair towards love, made her seem like an aged woman.

Thaddeus, you really screwed up!

“Miss!” Jason rushed over.

“Hmm?” Evadne seemed a bit dazed, her eyes somewhat vacant.

“You…you need to see this.”

Jason led Evadne to the corridor on the other side, standing in front of the window. “Look! Is Thaddeus out of his mind?!”

Evadne looked outside. Her pupils immediately contracted!

A man was standing quietly by a black sports car. His black tie was fluttering in the wind, and his dark hair was disheveled by the wind. He was drenched, but his eyes were still bright, and his posture was still straight, like a sword stuck in the ground, unshakeable no matter how fierce the storm.

“Is he crazy? What’s he doing standing in the rain? Playing the sympathy card? Does he think this will grab your attention?! What a sneaky ba stard!” Jason said angrily.

“You’re right, he’s really getting sneakier.” Evadne’s heart tightened as she forced a smile. “If he wants to stand, let him stand. Let’s see if he’s really a shameless jerk.”

Then, her phone rang. Thaddeus’ name glared at her from the screen. She hesitated for a moment, but eventually, she answered. “Thaddeus, can you stop making a scene?”

“Come out, I have something to say.” Thaddeus’ voice was still deep and powerful, undrowned by the storm.

“I have nothing to say to you!”

Just then, a bolt of purple lightning struck down, turning Evadne’s face white with fear!
