Chapter 13

Beta Liam

We have run through several possible scenarios but in all honesty, I’m not paying as much attention as I know I should be, and I know I won’t be able to until Beth is here with me, as if she can read my mind, she steps in the room right at that very moment.

“Hey, is everything ok?” She’s not a dull girl, she knows straight away something is up and I can see the worry gracing her beautiful face and I hate it.

“Beth take a seat sweetheart.” Calvin’s tone is always gentle towards Beth no matter what the situation is, he’s grown very fond of her in the short time she’s been here, then again so has Jack and Ashley.

She looks up at me and to my relief, she takes the seat next to me. Calvin holds out his hand to Brooke as she moves towards him, sitting in his lap, Jack and Ashley repeat the motion. I know all the guys are nervous and having their mate so close is the best thing to calm them down, of course, it’s different for me and Beth but having her close still helps me more than I could ever imagine.

“Ok Beth, I know it’s only been 3 weeks since you arrived here and I didn’t want to have to involve you in this yet, but you may be the only person who can help me.” She gives him a gentle smile and nods for him to continue.

He dives in telling her about the conversation that I had with Elder Thomas the day she arrived here and the suspicions I had regarding that, then ends with his conversation he had this morning with Elder Richards.

I watch her closely and she genuinely seems confused, I’m starting to think she doesn’t know anything but then I notice her sudden change, her body stiffens and she looks like she’s been smacked in the face with a hammer.

“Marcus!” She whispers out.

“Marcus?” Brooke repeats Beth with a questioning look. “As in Carly’s brother Marcus?

I’m still staring at Beth unable to take my eyes off her when I notice her eyes are slowly glazing over with tears.

“Yes him! I can’t believe I forgot about that, about him. Why did I forget about what he has done?” She looks up going between Brooke and Calvin, she looks scared and so sad and it’s breaking my f*****g heart!

“It’s ok sweetheart, you’ve done nothing wrong. Now would you mind telling us what you know involving Marcus? Or just anything you can remember at all?” Calvin is his usual gentle; Patient self and I send him a great full smile.

“Ok…so after Bella and I had been in the safe room overnight I started to realize that no one was coming to get us so I got my emergency backpack and we left. When we got outside…it was a b***d bath! Dead wolves and Body parts were just scattered everywhere.

I wanted to turn away and run but I needed to know, I needed to see them. First I found Harley and Josh, they were laying together and both of their throats were torn out.” She’s slowly losing her hold on her tears and I’m slowly losing my restraint!

“It’s ok little wolf, take your time!” She gives me a small smile before carrying on.

“After I found them, I kissed them both on the head and kept moving. Next, I found mom, our beautiful mom had her heart torn out Brooke!” Reliving replaceing her mom’s dead body is the last straw for her as her sobs slowly start to wreck her body.

Brooke has curled herself into Calvin while still trying to fight her tears, I know if Beth wasn’t here, she wouldn’t still be holding them back. Beth looks up at me looking completely broken and I can’t take it anymore.

I look to Calvin, he gives me the nod and I reach over sliding my hands under her arms and gently bring her into my lap, she instantly cuddles into me her fists balling up around my shirt and staying put against my chest.

She inhales my scent and I feel her calm down, she doesn’t realize what’s happening but I do, she’s calming down from the contact between us even though she doesn’t know we are mates yet, her body does and I’m so grateful I can help her.

She takes a few minutes to calm herself down more before continuing on with her story and telling us everything else that happened including Mrs Thompson telling her it was Marcus who controlled the attack. Calvin goes on to tell her more about both of the phone calls that have happened and she curls herself into me even more as she tries to make sense of what’s happening.

“So, he killed his own pack members to become Alpha, including his very own b***d family but he didn’t kill me or Bella even though he knew where we’d be, why?” My girl asks the question that I know we’re all thinking and I honestly don’t think any of us know how to even try and answer that question.

“I don’t know what’s going on but I intend on replaceing out!” Calvin is pissed and I’m right there with him!

“I’m going to call that bastard and see if I can get anything out of him, I need everyone to remain quiet or you are welcome to leave if you would rather do that!”. No one leaves but we all quiet down as Calvin dials his number on speakerphone for us all to hear.

“Alpha Marcus Thompson speaking!” He sounds so confident and for some reason I already hate him.

“Alpha Marcus, this is Alpha Calvin Rickson from claw moon pack, how are you?”

“I’m good thank you and yourself?” The quicker they get the pleasantries out of the way and get down to business the better as far as I’m concerned but Calvin will always be respectful to someone until they give him a reason not to be and I’m proud of him for that.

“Yes, I’m good thank you, now how can I help you?”

“Well first off I want to congratulate you on your impending Alpha ceremony. Elder Richards called me this morning to inform me of it and also to invite me and members of my pack along to your ceremony and I just wanted to confirm that we will be there. I am always more than happy to support any new Alpha, you never know maybe we can work on a treaty as I had with your previous Alpha, also, I want to send my deepest condolences to you on the loss of your entire pack, I can’t imagine what you have been through, you have my deepest sympathy!”

“Thank you, Alpha Calvin, it was a huge shock, and I’m still dealing with the loss but I have to try and move on and rebuild my life. I was shocked to be asked to take over as Alpha but it’s an honour that I indent on fulling to the best of my ability and I would greatly like to sit down and talk with you about a possible treaty, I’m also happy to hear you will be attending my ceremony!”

“You’re very welcome! I want you to know that we did check for any survivors so we could come and help them but we were informed that no one survived!” Clearly, Calvin is sensing something going on here because he’s hiding the truth about Beth and Bella.

“The Elders did tell me that and I am very grateful to you for thinking about us and trying. I wasn’t here when the attack happened, I turned up after so that’s where the confusion lies!”

Calvin and Marcus continue to talk while I become distracted by my girl pulling on my shirt.

“Liam, why’s Calvin not telling him about me and Bella?” She whispers in my ear.

“Shh shh, I’ll explain it to you once he’s off the phone I promise, but I don’t want him hearing your voice a moment ok sweetheart?” She gives me her beautiful smile and curls herself back into me.

I love the feeling of her body on mine, this is the first time she sat in my lap and I honestly never want to let her go! I’m dragged back into the room by the sound of Calvin slamming down the phone, f**k what did I miss?

“Well, clearly he’s bullshitting out of his wide a*s, the prick!” Calvin is pissed good!

“Calvin, I promise I’m not lying; Mrs Thompson really did tell me what I told you!” Wait Beth thinks Calvin doesn’t believe her why? I go to open my mouth but Cal beats me to it.

“Hey hey, Beth don’t you think for a second I don’t believe you ok? I know everything you’ve told me is the truth and even if you hadn’t told me about what he had done before I would have known he was lying from just speaking to him, he’s a shitty liar even over the phone so please don’t worry ok sweetheart?” She gives him a gentle smile and nods while she continues holding on to me for dear life. We chat for a little while longer and I can slowly feel her start to calm down which I’m relieved for.

“Beth, how about we go and pick Bella up from Emily’s early and take her to the park for an hour before dinner?” A smile instantly appears on Beth’s face as she jumps out of my lap to follow Brooke and I fight to hold back a whine from the loss of contact.

“You coming Ash or would you prefer to stay in here and listen to the men ramble on?” Brooke shoots Calvin a wink as she says it and I can’t hold in my laugh.

“Don’t you dare leave me alone with these animals, I’d take the park with my girls over sitting in here with these apes any day!” He rolls his eyes for dramatic effect and we all burst out laughing as Jack tries to foreign hurt, it’s soon forgotten when Ashley smacks his lips with a k**s and whispers something in his ear. They all leave and the room instantly goes serious as Jack, Calvin and I start talking through everything we know so far.

Alpha Calvin

The girls and Ashley left my office 2 hours ago and the guys followed about an hour ago. I’ve been sitting in my chair literally staring at the brick wall in front of me since they left. When Bella told me everything earlier, I was instantly on high alert and I know Liam and Jack were the same,

Liam more than any of us and I don’t blame him at the end of the day Beth is his mate, she may not know it yet but he does and from the moment he found out his mate instincts kicked straight in. I honestly don’t know how he’s managing to keep going with keeping this a secret, it has to be so hard for him and I really feel sorry for him!

When he left my office, I sent him to talk to my parents for a while before he loses his s**t! I make a mental note to check in with him later and see how he’s doing with it all, I know he’s spoken with my parents a few times since replaceing out and I’m glad he’s taken their help with this. I will help him as much as I can but I can’t do half as much as they can.

Now back to the so-called Alpha Marcus, obviously, we already know why he attacked his own pack and the fact that he killed his own b***d family is the lowest of the low and just tells me he’s a heartless bastard and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Usually, he would be the type of Alpha that I would stay away from but with Brooke, Beth and little Bella now my family I have to look into this.

I need to figure out if he knows about Beth and Bella being alive or if he actually thinks they’re dead. If he does know they are alive then why isn’t he looking for them? Surely this would be the first place he would look for them as Brooke lives here and he’d know she would come to her.

What’s his game? What’s his goal in this? my mind starts to wonder for a second and it hits me like an 8ft wolf in the head that my beautiful mate has only been here 6 weeks, the attack literally happened 3 weeks after she left the pack. If I hadn’t found her at the ball then there’s a very big chance that she would be dead now, that I would have never got to meet her.

The thought alone instantly makes my veins burn in anger, as I slam my fist down on the desk there’s a knock on my door, it opens and in steps, my Luna, f**k she’s beautiful!
