Chapter 32

Beta Liam

I’m sitting on the wooden dock that looks out to the lake it’s 6.10 am but I’ve barely had any sleep, I’ve been sitting here for hours. It’s been 3 days since I meet my mate, she’s lovely and beautiful but something doesn’t feel right.

We’ve kissed but haven’t mated or marked and I know she’s getting impatient but for some reason, I can’t seem to do it, whenever I think of mating with her my c**k feels like it shrinks to nothing!

Sarah may be my first mate but I know enough about them to know that this shouldn’t happen, I should want to mate with her instantly and all the time, I feel the sparks when we touch but they don’t seem to do anything for me.

Where are the sparks that cause you to feel like you are on fire everyone talks about? Where’s the constant feeling of wanting to be around her? The reason I’m sitting here now is that I haven’t had a single moment to myself since we found each other, she follows me everywhere, even to Beta duties which ain’t normal and I know I should miss her when I’m not with her but right now, being here alone, it makes me happy and I feel like I can breathe finally!

That’s not the only thing that’s changed since I’ve met Sarah, I’ve noticed when I’m around her I speak to people different and act different, I can’t help it, it’s literally like I have no control when she is around and none of it for good reasons.

Jonah is barely speaking to me either the only thing he has said since I meet her is “Fight it” I’m not sure what he means and he won’t tell me, he also won’t let me shift and the strangest part is when I see Luna’s sister Bethany, I feel like something is wrong like my body reacts but I don’t understand why I don’t understand any of this but things don’t feel normal and I need to figure out why and fast!

“Cal, are you awake?” I link him hoping maybe we can talk before Sarah wakes up and is back by my side.

“Yes, is everything ok Liam? It’s only 6.30!”

“I know I’m sorry for linking so early but I was wondering if I could speak to you alone, please?”

“Of course, brother, come up to my lounge, Brooke’s still sleeping.”

I quickly thank him, close the link, and head for his floor. I’m there within minutes and before I can even knock on the door, he opens it looking tired and stressed, has the guy even had any sleep?

“You look how I feel man!” He quickly shoots out to me and I can’t even argue it as I thought the same. I follow him to his kitchen where he’s got 2 cups of coffee already made and I couldn’t be any more grateful. We both take a seat opposite each other but he doesn’t say a word just drinks his coffee while waiting for me to start, the problem is I don’t have a f*****g clue where to begin.

f**k it! I just jump in with both feet and tell him what’s going on in my head what I’ve been thinking and feeling, he doesn’t say a word just listens until I’ve finished, he doesn’t look shocked at what I’m saying either and it only raises my suspicions more.

“Honestly Liam I’m glad you’ve come to me. I’ve wanted to talk to you but I’ve not been able to get you on your own without Sarah, even when I called you for Beta business yesterday it was to try and talk to you but then Sarah turned up, I thought it was strange but I didn’t want to insult you, your new mates so I decided to let it slide!”

“What did you want to talk to me about?” What’s he know?

“Honestly I didn’t have anything planned but it’s just…well…”

“It’s ok Cal, just say whatever you want to, it’s only me!”

“That’s part of the problem Liam you don’t seem like you, you’ve been talking to me in your formal Beta tone, not just me everyone! Today… now is the first time you’ve called me Cal since this happened, you’re not acting like you and I’m worried and I’m not alone with that!”

As much as I should be angry at what he’s saying, that everyone’s got their opinions on me and Sarah I’m not, in fact, I feel relieved that I’m not alone in this. I go to speak but before I can open my mouth, I get a link of Sarah asking where I am, for f**k’s sake!

“Cal, I need to go Sarah’s awake and asking for me, I don’t want her nagging at me, s**t where can I say I’ve been?”

“I called you up here with me, emergency pack business, at breakfast I’ll let you know I need you back up here to carry on with it and we can discuss this some more how does that sound?”

“You’re a lifesaver man, thank you that would be great! I don’t know what’s going on but I need to figure it out because something doesn’t feel right!”

“Something isn’t right!” He gives me a strange look but I don’t have time to try and figure it out. I quickly leave the kitchen and head down to my floor where Sarah is literally waiting for me at the door pouting and looking pissed off and for the first time since we found out we were mates I replace her unattractive, f**k that should never happen with your mate, there’s got to be something wrong with me surely!

“Where were you baby? I woke up alone!” She pouts my way before hanging on to me for dear life placing a k**s on my lips and showing her sexy smile.

“Sorry, babe Alpha needed me for emergency pack business!” She doesn’t look amused but it doesn’t seem to bother me as much as it should.

“He can’t just expect you to drop everything and be at his side the minute he calls; you have a mate and he needs to work around you now!” What the f**k is she on about?

“It’s my job as Beta to be at his side whenever he needs me Sarah you know this!”

“And it’s your job to keep your mate happy, I have needs to mind, speaking of maybe you could help me out with my needs now!” She winks at me before starting to undo her dressing gown, I go to reach out to her but then I feel Jonah in my head.

“FIGHT IT” He bellows out. I shake my head and focus on his words and then I feel my senses coming back and my balls trying to hide.

“We need to get ready for breakfast, I have a feeling Alpha will need me again today!” I walk off before I finish my sentence and I can hear her huffing and puffing as she follows behind me making sure I know she’s not happy and the most f****d up part is I care she’s not happy but nowhere near as much as I know I should.

I head for the shower locking the bathroom door and I know it’s not right, surely. I should want my mate in the shower with me but I don’t, I don’t even want her in the bathroom with me.

Alpha Calvin

“Morning everyone!” My parents, Liam’s parents, and Jack are already in the kitchen when me and Brooke arrive, Bella’s curled into me giggling away and no one looks like they slept much.

“Where’s Ash and Beth?” My mom asks she must be distracted if she’s only now realized that Ashley isn’t here with Jack.

“Beth had a last-minute sleepover with Ashley last night, stayed up late watching a film, they were still sleeping when I left!” Jack tells my mom as he makes his way over to me.

“Come here my little petal!” He sings to Bella as he takes her from my arms.

“Grease?” Brooke asks Jack.

“Of course!” He rolls his eyes but he can’t keep the smirk off his face.

“Right guys before Liam comes down, I want to tell you something!” l go on to tell everyone about my conversation with Liam and everyone seems slightly relieved that we haven’t been imagining anything.

“Maybe there is something more to this, after all, I know this isn’t my boy, he would never treat Bethany like he is, that girl is his life already, we all know it!” I’m quick to agree with Mary because we all know it’s the truth.

“I’ve been in contact with Annabella the witch I mentioned and she’s happy to try and help us.” my dad quickly tells us.

“That’s great dad, when can she come?”

She’s ready, she’s just waiting for the word and she’ll come here.” God bless my dad!

“Can I leave you to make the arrangements, get her here asap?”

“Of course, son, I will call her after breakfast and let you know when she will be arriving,” As soon as he finishes speaking, we hear Ashley and Beth’s laughs sounding down the hallway and we’re quick to change the subject before she hears anything she shouldn’t.

After breakfast me and Brooke head to our floor to wait for Liam and Jack to arrive, I made it clear that I only want them two there so hopefully, Liam can shake Sarah off before he gets here and Ashley has gone to training with Bethany so she is occupied for the next hour.

“Baby, why don’t you head into my office and call the principal, pay Bethany’s school tuition ready for Monday?”

“You sure you don’t need me to stay here?” I know she’s struggling with this situation, watching Beth hurt is horrible for any of us but for Brooke, it generally breaks her heart. I also know Liam won’t be happy he isn’t paying the tuition but we don’t have the time to wait and I have absolutely no problem with paying for her school.

“I’ll be fine baby, in fact, don’t worry about calling the school, I’ll do it once I’m finished here. Why don’t you have a nice soak in the bath while Bethany is training and once she finished you can take her into town, get her everything she needs for Monday.”

She graces me with her beautiful smile before pulling me into a mouth-watering k**s and heading for the bathroom and I’m about 3 seconds away from cancelling this meeting and joining my beautiful mate in the bath.

I don’t have much time to think about it as Jack and Liam soon appear through the door and I force myself to push all the kinky thoughts out of my head and concentrate on the task at hand, we spend some time talking and I quickly notice Liam is back to his distant self and from the looks, Jack is throwing my way I can see he thinks the same so I decided to stick with the one piece of pack business that Liam can be apart of.

“Ok, so Liam I know jack filled you in on how bad things are getting at the blue lake pack and that Alpha Pickard asked for our help!” He nods before making his feelings on them hurting kids very clear and for a few minutes I see a glimmer of the real Liam and it just reminds me of how much he’s changed since Sarah.

“So, the original plan was to send Jack and Ashley with the warriors but now I’d like to send you, I believe you would be better for the job with your tactical skills and we all know you are a monster in any fight!”

Honestly, Jack and Ashley could do just as good a job which is why I was originally sending them but with the situation, we are in with Liam and Jacoby I need someone here with a clear head and unfortunately that’s not Liam right now. I’ve already spoken to the guys about it and they are more than happy to send Liam, they both want him away from Sarah while we try and figure things out.

“I know you only just found your mate and leaving her will be hard but you are the best guy for the job!” Honestly, I don’t give a s**t about Sarah’s feelings in this, the guys ain’t the only ones that want him away from her, after 20 minutes of talking it’s decided that he’ll go and lead the warriors in ending them mother fuckers, fight fine but you never attack women or children, that’s a huge no-no and I’m confident that Liam will make them pay!

Jack and Ashley leave soon after while Liam stays and we chat some more about the upcoming trip, I don’t tell him about the witch we are going to work with, I don’t know how things are working with him and I can’t risk Sarah replaceing out but he seems happy about this trip as he heads off to let Sarah know the plans and start getting ready. He will head out tomorrow and the witch will arrive 2 days later and I pray with everything we have that we can figure things out before he’s back.
