Chapter 42

Bethany

It’s been almost 2 weeks since all them awful truths were revealed and my guilt hasn’t gotten any easier, it doesn’t matter how many times I’m told it wasn’t my fault, I still feel the weight of it and I’m not sure how to get away from it.

Marcus is still being held in a cell, Calvin doesn’t want to kill him yet, he’s hoping Liam can get his memory back before it happens, apparently, Liam deserves to understand everything before he’s killed, I’m not sure what’s going on but if it involved me Cal would tell me until then I’m staying out of it.

Sarah is still in a cell too, but I have no idea what’s going on with her, Cal came to see me before school today and asked me to head straight home from school for a meeting that he’s holding so maybe we’ll replace out more then.

“You coming or what b***h face?” I’m rudely pulled back to reality by Katie, the girl is a massive pain in my a*s but I wouldn’t trade her for anything, as best friends go, she is at the top of the chain and has been an incredible support to me since we first meet.

Calvin allowed me to tell her everything that was going on, I trust her with my life and know she won’t tell a soul and it turns out her dad Toby is one of the guards that’s also involved with everything, everyone said he was a lower rank warrior but the strength and loyalty he has shown over the past couple of weeks makes him look anything but weak!

“Yes, let’s go!” Math is next and our second class of the day, It is also one of my favourite subjects, the rest of today isn’t looking great though, science, history, and art. I don’t mind history but the rest can k**s my a*s, none the less it’s got to be done, I’m just hoping today goes quick, I want to get home and replace out what this meeting is about and the quicker the better.

Beta Liam

“Grrr ahh f**k!” f**k this s**t hurts! Annabella has been trying to help me break whatever spell has been put on me by those pair of bastards. If Sarah died the spell would die with her or if we could replace the witch that cast it but Marcus isn’t being any help, so because Sarah is still alive the spell will fade over time but never completely leave me but I want it out of my system as soon as possible so Annabella is trying to replace a way to get it out of me, unfortunately for me so far, it’s been all pain and no gain!

We’re on my floor, I’m stretched out on the sofa while Annabella hovers over me trying out her latest theory, it’s the most painful one so far but I’ll take whatever pain I need to get my life and memory back, thankfully I’m not suffering any side effects from a mate bond. Annabella thinks the only reason I was able to fight it as I did was that it wasn’t as strong as needed and for that, I’m f*****g grateful!

“How’s it going brother?” I look towards the door to see Calvin and Brooke coming inside, Bella on Calvin’s arm babbling to herself while Brooke is still in her pajamas, the poor girl looks bad.

“Still the same mate, morning sickness still not letting up Brooke?” She’s been having a really tough time with it this past week and I really feel for the girl.

“Nope, still goooing!” She sings out with a smile on her face, only she could be smiling whilst suffering like she is.

“Let’s take a break, Liam, get some dinner and then we can talk about where to go from here, how does that sound?” Annabella moves to sit down while talking to me and as much as I just want to keep going, I can’t deny the hunger in my stomach is at its peak, even in pain I’m a bottomless pit.

“Fancy trying to eat something baby? I know you are struggling but you still need to eat!” Calvin gently rubs Brooke’s stomach, speaking gently trying to coax her into eating, he told me last night he was worried about her as she’s throwing up all the time and barely eating but doesn’t want to take anything to help it.

“I’ll try and eat something, come on let’s head down they’ll be serving it soon!” Brooke takes Cal’s hand and starts making her way to the door but before they get outside Annabella calls Cal asking him for a quick chat.

“Come on Brooke, let’s head down to the kitchen and nab the best food first!” I quickly swipe Bella out of Calvin’s arms and hold out my free arm to Brooke, she links her arm with mine as we leave Cal and Annabella to chat, Brooke and Calvin share a strange look but I choose to ignore it as we make our way to the kitchen.

Alpha Calvin

“What’s the look for Alpha?” Annabella didn’t miss the look me and Brooke shared before she left with Liam and Bella.

“That’s the first time Liam has held Bella or given her any real attention since all this started, I know it may seem strange but if you knew how close he was to her before you’d understand.”

“I have heard of how he was with her, and him doing what he just did is a brilliant sign, it shows the spell is breaking slowly but I worry it’s too slow!” Huh? She can see my confusion and continues to explain.

“Liam and I have been at this for almost two weeks and while there have been some small signs that it is slowly leaving him, I fear the amount of pain his body keeps receiving is going to end up doing him more harm than good, either Sarah dies soon or we need to try something different!”

“Different how?” She’s got my attention; I want to help Liam and I’d much rather have a less painful method for him.

“Before I tell you I need to ask you something and I need the truth from you Alpha and in return, you have my word on my honour that I won’t tell anyone without your permission!” I nod for her to continue not sure if I like where this is going.

“What’s the deal with Liam and Luna’s sister Bethany? All I have heard is they are good friends but I suspect there is more to it!” How the f**k?

“What makes you think that?”

“You asked me to come here and observe everything around Liam and Sarah and I did just that, at first I didn’t see much in it but while the spell has been fading I have become very aware of his protectiveness towards her, it is subtle and I’m not sure if he’s aware that he’s doing it but you know…You, Brooke, Jack and Ashley you share looks that confirm you know and I have a feeling there was something there before he was put under the spell that he can’t remember!” f**k this girl is good.

“I can see why my father remained on good terms with you!” She smirks my way but doesn’t say a word, she’s waiting for me to speak but this is risky, on one hand, this could cause a whole load of trouble if it gets out but on the other hand, Annabella hasn’t given me any reason not to trust her since she’s been here. She’s done nothing but help us and this may be a risk worth taking.

“I have your word? On your honour and as a good friend to this pack, I have your promise of silence?” She ensures me that I have her word and I decide to be honest, we are running out of options and Liam needs her help and I swore I would do anything to help him…ahh f**k it!

“Bethany…Bethany and Liam are mates!” Her jaw practically hits the floor, it’s clear to see that’s the last thing she was expecting to hear from me.

“Huh…how I don’t understand? She’s a child, this doesn’t make sense!” I know exactly what she’s thinking and feeling as we all experienced it when we first found out ourselves. I dive in and explain to her, how we found out, how we’ve been dealing with it, the law on telling Bethany the truth and also Liam’s role.

And about how he wants her to experience it all herself and how much he’s been doing for her that she has no idea about. By the time I’ve finished she is completely speechless, we both sit in silence for what feels like forever before she finally gathers herself and faces me.

“I have never known anything like this before, but given your law about telling her I can see why I haven’t heard of it!” I see her swallowing hard so I get us both a bottle of water from the kitchen before sitting back down.

“So, I told you the truth so can you tell me what your next idea for Liam is, I’d like to check on my mate as soon as possible to make sure she’s eating ok.”

“Well after what you’ve told me I’m even more convinced my plan could work. So, when I noticed Liam’s reactions to Bethany, I noticed that it appears to be the only time that he seems to feel reality, it’s like he’s walking through a trance but the minute something happens involving Bethany he wakes up and seems to think more clearly, even if he doesn’t realise he’s doing it.” I nod and agree with her words we’ve all noticed the same thing, she takes a drink and then carries on.

“Spells don’t seem to be breaking whatever is cast over him but I think Bethany could if Liam thinks Bethany is in trouble, in danger, if he thinks someone is going to physically hurt her I think it could possibly be enough to snap the last of his mind out of the spell.”

“I won’t put Bethany in danger!” Not a chance and I know Liam would agree with me.

“Neither will I Alpha, all we need is someone to play the part, to act like they want to hurt her in front of Liam, enough to make him snap.”

“But if he snaps, there’s a possibility he could seriously hurt whoever is playing the part, he’s a Beta, there’s a chance he could kill someone for trying to hurt his mate!”

“There is and I get this isn’t easy to think about or decide upon but I truly believe it’s our best option right now, of course, I can’t imagine it will be easy trying to replace someone who is willing to risk their lives, I can be there to help protect them but as you can already guess I can’t guarantee their safety 100%”

“I have to admit it does sound like a good idea, Liam may not realise it now but he already loves Bethany as a mate should, he’s protected and cared for her since the moment she arrived and I have to agree that I think it could be the trigger he needs but risking any of my pack members, using any of them as a decoy is not something I can do…. unless…. unless I do it myself maybe!”

“I’ll do it, Alpha Calvin, I’ll be the decoy, you don’t have to risk your life or anyone else’s in your pack, I’m here, use me!” I spin around in my chair and my jaw bounces off my knee before my anger quickly flares up.

“What the f**k are you doing in here Jacoby?”
