Chapter 61

Beta Liam

He doesn’t think I’ve been watching him tonight but I have, from the moment the girls arrived he started drooling at my girl like she was a juicy piece of meat, Cal noticed too and was quick to bring me out of my anger before I tore his throat out!

He was drunk arriving at the party which isn’t a great sign but he won’t do anything to anyone because both me and Cal are staying sobber and alert tonight and I’ve got my eyes firmly on him.

I hate the feeling it gives me when I see him drooling over Bethany, I know she’s my mate but she doesn’t and there’s always a small part of me that worries that she’ll become interested in someone until she’s is of age, it does happen.

Wolves have boyfriends and girlfriends until they replace their mates and I’m not ashamed to admit that the idea of that happening with my girl terrifies me! She’s mine, my mate and just the thought of someone else touching her in any way makes me want to tear the place apart.

I bring my burning anger in to check before anyone can notice only for him to offer Beth a seat on his f*****g lap the minute he realises she doesn’t have a chair, it ain’t f*****g happening!

I’m not sure if I do it without thinking or on instinct but before I can stop myself I pull her down so she’s sitting sideways on my lap and thank the f*****g moon goddess she stays there! before I can say something to that prick that I won’t regret but he properly will I’m distracted by Brooke’s soothing Luna voice!

Brooke: “Have you had a good day, Beth?”

Beth: “I have, it’s been so much fun, thank you everyone for making it special for me!”

Ashley: “Girl, you know me any excuse for a parrttyyy!” As usual, he has everyone laughing!

Brooke: “I can’t believe how quick this past year has gone!”

Calvin: “Me neither, or how much has changed!”

“It’s insane to think that just over a year ago there wasn’t one baby between us and now there’s 3 plus our little Danielle!” The fact that I’ve also found my mate in that time stays on the tip of my tongue despite how much I want the world to know.

Rose: “Since Dani and I arrived one thing I noticed very quickly was how much of a family everyone is, this pack is not just a pack but a family and all of you guys sitting around this table are a tight family, no one is ever alone with any problems, you raise your babies together, you always protect each other no matter what and I’ve never heard any of you complain, it’s humbling to watch and I love how you live your lives!”

Hearing them words from Rose makes my heart swell and I know everyone else is feeling the same, to have someone come into our pack and see all the good that happens always leaves me with a proud feeling, proud that I am a part of this pack, this family.

“Hey guys, sorry we’re late, a few more of my warriors decided to join us last minute, I hope you don’t mind?” Our attention is pulled away from the current conversation by Alpha John and several members of his pack arriving.

“Of course not, the more the merrier!” Cal quickly shouts out but Alpha John doesn’t seem to notice anything he says, I notice his eyes grow wide and his nose tilts up towards the air and as he starts sniffing I know what’s going to happen.

“What’s that smell Alpha Calvin?” He doesn’t look at Cal as he asks, just keeps sniffing the air.

“I can’t smell anything-!” Cal looks at me and I know he’s realised the same thing but who is it? He makes his way around the table and keeps going until he reaches the opposite end of the table from me and then he stops right in front of her and my heart stops and I know I’m not the only one.

“MATE, MINE!” He growls out!

“Mate, Mine!” She whispers out and I know he’s struggling to understand her timid response but John doesn’t know Rose’s story and

I’m not sure how she’s going to deal with this! He goes to take her hand but she quickly pulls back, her body shaking and it’s just awful to watch.

“Rose, you’re ok darling, look at me, breath, that’s it!” Brooke is already on her knees in front of Rose holding her hand, Rose closes her eyes and after a few minutes, she starts to calm down.

“Rose, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to scare you!” I can see the confusion and pain in John’s eyes as he looks at his mate.

“No, I’m sorry Alpha John, this isn’t your fault!” Her voice is barely above a whisper and it’s heartbreaking to watch, I can feel Bethany’s body sink into me and I know she feels the same as we watch this unfold.

“Just call me John honey!” A small smile appears on her face but not for long.

“Alpha Calvin would it be ok if I talk with John inside the packhouse, I don’t want anyone hearing what I have to say!” Knowing her story I don’t blame her, Cal gives her the go-ahead but she asks him and Brooke if they can go to and of course, they happily agree.

By the time they return back to the table, Ashley has dragged Beth up to dance while Jack and I are catching up with Jacoby and Ariel, it seems he has completely changed his ways and they are happy together which I know will please Beth.

Jonah, however, was giving me a f*****g headache with his constant whining after Beth left our lap, that was until I threatened to stop him shifting for a week if he didn’t pack it in, it worked, it shut him up but I know he’ll make me pay for it one way or another.

While they have been gone John’s warriors have managed to gather some empty chairs and have brought them to our table, I look up as they walk back over to us and no one looks heartbroken so I’m hoping things went well.

John walks over to my side of the table and takes an empty seat while Rose returns to her seat at the opposite end of the table, John hasn’t taken his eyes off her since they returned and I can see he’s struggling.

Rose seems to sense this too and after a few hesitant steps, she leaves her chair and takes the empty seat next to him with a small smile and he’s instantly beaming. Brooke and Ashley soon return from dancing panting and giggling away and my heart swells at the sound of her laugh.

The party continues until the early hours and the last song of the night is one of Beth’s favourites, Ashley drags Jack up while Brooke repeats the motion with Calvin and I know Beth wants to dance even if she tries to hide it.

Within seconds of the song starting I gave in and gently lift Beth off my lap, she gives me a confused look that I return with a smile as I grab her hand and tug her along to the dance floor.

This song is slow and it takes everything I have not to pull her flush to my body instead I pull her close to me while keeping some space between us, I keep one hand high on her back and the other curled around her much smaller hand and use every ounce of strength I have to keep it that way.

Whitney Houston I will always love you plays out loud from the speakers and the world around me disappears, all I can see is the beautiful face of my mate in front of me, her big ocean blue eyes still pierce me like they did the first time I saw her, she has grown up so much in the time she’s been here and every day is a challenge but I wouldn’t change a moment of it.

I don’t know how the next 2 years are going to go but looking at her now, seeing how the older she gets the more beautiful she becomes and how the older she gets the more caring and loving she becomes, I know it’s going to get even harder with every day.

But it doesn’t change a thing because as my little wolf stares at me right now with her beautiful smile I know that I will take every single challenge no questions asked. After all, one day she will be at my side, one day the world will know she is my mate and I know that when that day comes I won’t regret a moment, for every single minute of pain and torture I have to go through will be worth it for her to be mine, for her to officially be my little wolf!
