His Little Wolf -
Chapter 8
Beta Liam
Holy f**k! I can’t believe this, how is this possible? I know mates can be younger but she’s 14, 14! She’s 4 years younger than me, granted it’s not a big age gap and if I was 22 and she was 18 then I wouldn’t think anything of it, but this situation has me feeling so many emotions that I don’t know what I’m supposed to think or feel.
I try to peel my eyes away from her but I can’t, my body doesn’t care that she’s 14, my body is just concentrating on the fact that she’s, my mate. My palms are sweaty my head is whirling and my heart is beating so fast against my ribs that I think I’m heading for a f*g heart attack.
Once I finally manage to pull my eyes away from her, I instantly notice Calvin has been staring at me, I’m not sure for how long but the look on his face is enough to tell me he knows something’s wrong.
“Liam, what’s wrong brother?” He mind-links me as he looks at me with utter concern and even though I know this isn’t my fault, it doesn’t stop me from feeling like a complete and utter d**k.
“Ahh nothing Cal, don’t worry!” I hate hiding anything from him. He’s my best friend, my brother in every sense but I just don’t know what I’m supposed to say and unfortunately for me, him being my best friend also means I can never get away with lying to him.
“Don’t nothing me Liam, you’re lying to me, What’s wrong?” He’s giving me his no-nonsense tone and I know I’m screwed.
“Honestly Cal, I don’t even know what to say.”
“Ok as soon as Beth and Bella go upstairs, we are talking whatever this is through, ok?”
“You need to be with the girls Cal, don’t worry about me I’m fine.”
“The girls have each other and Ashley, they will be ok long enough for us to talk, you’re my brother and I know something is up so stop trying to brush it off. We are talking once they leave, ok?” He is not messing around.
I nod agreeing with him and turn my attention back to Beth just as Ashley comes pounding through the front door. I’ll give it to the guy he has Beth laughing within a few minutes of meeting and her giggles are like sweet music to my ears.
“We should be the ones making her laugh not him!” Jonah huffs in my head.
“I know Jonah, but one Ashley is no threat to us or our mate and two we need to figure this s**t out before we start letting our minds wonder.”
“Yeah, yeah I know but she’s our mate Liam, I swear to the moon goddess you better not be thinking about rejecting her!”
“Of course, I’m not Jonah. She’s our mate, we’ve waited our whole lives for her but we just need to figure everything out first, ok?”
He agrees with me, making sure his huffing and puffing are clear for me to hear as he retreats to the back of my mind sulking.
Brooke and Ashley start leading Beth and Bella up the stairs, Calvin lets her know he’ll join her shortly and tells me to follow him. We end up at his office, after locking the door he takes a seat in his massive leather chair behind his desk and I sit in the smaller leather chair across from him.
“So, what’s wrong?”
“I don’t even know where to start Cal.”
“Well, I already know it involves Beth, so care to explain it some more?” How the f**k did he know that?
“How…the…huh?”
“Yup now spill.”
“What makes you say it’s to do with Beth?”
“Am I wrong?”
“No, no you’re not.”
“Exactly now explain Liam, it’s just me brother, you can tell me anything you know that.”
“I know Cal, it’s just, well honestly I never expected this to happen hmm… Well, Beth, Beth she’s my mate Calvin and I don’t have a f*g clue what to think or say about it.”
“HOLY f**k!”
“Yup, wait how did you know it involved Beth?”
“I saw the way you looked at her when you saw her, I saw how much you were fighting with yourself but I couldn’t figure out why. I knew there had to be a reason why you were looking at her like that because you wouldn’t look at any 14 year old like that ever. I never thought she’d be your mate though, that has shocked me!”
“Shocked you! Cal, I feel like I’m in somebody else’s body, I don’t understand how this can happen.”
“I don’t know what to say to you right now but I do know someone who will be able to help, let’s go.” He stands up from his desk and I just follow like a sheepdog because honestly right now I feel completely lost, and if anyone can help me even the smallest bit then I’m more than willing to listen.
We walk across the parklands for a few minutes before stopping outside a door, Calvin knocks and I realize this must be who we are going to see however, I don’t understand how these people can help me, how can Calvin’s parents help me with my situation?
“Well hello boys, how lovely to see you.”
“Hey mom, we were wondering if we could talk to you for a minute?”
“Of course, of course, come in.” Lucy our pack Luna, well for one more week anyway moves aside and ushers us both inside.
“Lucy, who is it?” Calvin’s dad shouts out across the house.
“It’s your sons Michael, pop the kettle on.” Both Lucy and Michael have considered me their son since I was small and my parents feel the same about Calvin. We walk through the house making our way to the kitchen and Michael immediately hands us both coffees, werewolf speed is incredible.
“And to what do we owe the pleasure boys?”
“Can’t we call over to see you guys without there being a reason?” Cal quickly answers.
“Of course, you can boys, you know you are welcome here anytime.” Chimes in Luna Lucy.
“Of course, you can, you know that what I mean is with Bethany and Isabella arriving any moment, I wasn’t expecting to see either of you today.” The guys got a point.
“Beth and Bella arrived about 20 minutes ago dad, however, something came up and I know it’s something you both can give some insight to.” Lucy shoos us over to the table to sit down and both her and Michael put their full attention on us.
“Well, if we can help, we will, what’s wrong sons?” I look to Calvin and he gives me a nod, telling me to start talking.
“Ok, so…hmm well there’s no easy way to say this so I’m just going to spit it out, As Cal said Beth and Bella have already arrived, and well…hmmm.” For f**k’s sake, why can’t I get my words out! thankfully Cal takes pity on me and decides to help me out.
“Mom, dad when Beth and Bella arrived, Liam found out that Beth is his mate.” They both share the same look that Calvin gave me when I told him earlier, properly the same look I was trying to cover up myself, to be honest.
“Well, that’s incredible, wait…isn’t Beth a child?” Lucy is catching on to where this is going rather quickly.
“Yeah, she’s 14.” Cal answers. I’m so grateful that he is helping me out here because I’m really struggling to form any words right now.
“Lucy, Michael. Calvin said he knew someone who would know something about this and then he brought me here so I can only assume that means you know something about this kind of thing?” Finally, I’m forming words, enough to make a sentence anyway. Michael and Lucy look at each other and smiles instantly form on their faces.
“Yes, we do, we know quite a lot about this kind of thing actually.” Michael smiles my way.
“Can you tell me what you know please?” I’m practically begging at this point but I don’t care.
“Of course, sweetheart. So, you see, when I was 13 my pack was attacked by Rogues. We had no warning, they attacked in the middle of the night, and in all honestly, we didn’t stand a chance. We lost a lot of good people that night including my own parents and sisters. Before the attack, we were a pack of 400, after the attack, we were a pack of 45.
It would have been impossible to survive with such little numbers plus we only had 10 men amongst the survivors, the rest were women and children. Anyway, the Alpha of a neighbouring pack heard about the attack and offered us a home with his pack and we immediately accepted.
He was a brilliant man and an incredible Alpha. It also turned out moving to this pack would lead to me meeting my mate, you see Liam Michael is 56 and I am 51 and I meet him the first day I moved to the pack.” Lucy gives me a few minutes to take in everything she has just told me and a smile graces her face as she sees me slowly realize what she is saying.
“Wait, so you were 13 when you moved to the pack and you meet Michael straight away, Michael was your mate and he was 18 when you meet right?”
“That’s right” Michael joins in.
“So, you knew Lucy was your mate when she was 13 years old?”
“Yes son, I meet her and knew straight away that she was my mate but I also quickly realized I’d have to wait 5 years to actually have her.”
“Wow! how didn’t I know this?” I can’t believe this, not only did I have no clue about their story but now I am experiencing the same situation, what are the odds?
“Only your parents, Calvin and Brooke know about it. It’s not a secret or anything but it’s just not something that tends to come up often.” Michael looks lovely at Lucy then back to me.
“So, Beth is definitely your mate?”
“Yes Micheal definitely.”
“Ok, and how old is she again?”
“She’s 14, well she’s actually turning 15 tomorrow.”
“Ok so you have to wait 3 years for her, I assume you’re not going to reject her?”
“No of course not! She’s my mate and I’ve been waiting a long time for her, however now I’ve met her, waiting for her feels near dam impossible to do!”
“You know you can’t tell her, right?” He’s giving me a sympathetic look and despite everything, I really appreciate how they are both taking their time to try and help me.
“I know, but how do I do this? How do I wait another 3 years? How do I live every day seeing her but not being able to tell her? don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t want anything happening between us yet, she is 14 and as much as my body knows she’s my mate and I replace her beautiful, I would never allow anything to happen between us when she’s a child, it’s wrong and I won’t do it.”
“But you’re willing to wait for her right?” Calvin speaks up.
“Of course, I am, she’s my mate and that’s not going to change. I just need to figure out what the hell I’m going to do until the time
comes when I can finally claim her as mine. How the hell am I going to keep this from her though? Jonah is already driving me crazy over this!”
“Luckily for you, I have a lot of experience in this and I will help you every step of the way,” Michael tells me with his genuine father smile spread across his face.
“And when the time comes, I will help Beth with anything she needs.” smiles Lucy. I honestly love these people and I don’t think I’ve ever been more grateful for them. We all get into a deep conversation about everything that’s going to come up and how I’m going to handle it and Michael takes his time telling me as much as he can, he answers all my questions and takes his time with me, no rushing just honest help and I couldn’t be any more grateful.
