How Death Became My Rebirth (Cassandra Yates) -
Chapter 284
Chapter 284
Cassandra frowned, wondering why Leanna still called her Cassie. She said in a cold voice, “Don’t callme Cassie again.”
Leanna was stunned and disappointed. Her eyes were full of depression. She said, “Cassie, can’t youstill forgive me and your father?”
Cassandra thought, ‘Forgive?
‘How?
‘Because of Darren’s mistakes and his self–righteousness, I had been tortured for two years in myprevious life.
The family relationship I had desired was all fake.
‘It wasn’t them who suffered torment to death, so of course they could ask for my forgiveness withoutthinking.
‘How could I forgive them? If I had died because of someone else, I would have been calm in the faceof all this. But I died because of Benjamin’s family.
‘It was Darren’s mistake that caused my death.’
Cassandra took a deep breath. Considering that Leanna had taken the risk of giving birth to her,Cassandra didn’t just say “no” indifferently. Instead, she said, “Ms. Leanna Stark, let me tell you a story.Would you like to hear it?
“A poor old woman picked up a newborn girl. The little girl grew up drinking the simplest vegetablesoup, and baby formula was a luxury for her.
“The old woman had no family and regarded the little girl as her own family. Therefore, she tried herbest to take care of the little girl until the little girl grew up, went to school, and spent money. Althoughshe was poor, she didn’t let the little girl do any heavy work.
“When the little girl was ten years old, the old woman couldn’t hold on and fell ill. In order to save her,the girl went to beg some men, one after another. At such a young age, she had a debt of 100thousand dollars. However, the old woman’s illness required a lot of money, and the 100 thousanddollars couldn’t last long. The girl couldn’t keep borrowing money to save the old woman. So, shestarted. studying desperately, learning everything she could, especially things that could.

earn her money. She even learned medical skills. However, just as she started earning money, the oldwoman passed away.

“The girl treated the old woman as her only family. But she lost her family. Because she was loved bythe old woman, she longed for family very much. She simply felt that if a stranger could be so nice toher, then her biological parents would definitely treat her better. Finally, when she was almost an adult,
she found the so–called biological parents.” Cassandra looked at Leanna and asked faintly, “Do youknow what happened later?”
Leanna shook her head. She didn’t know, but she felt sorry for the little girl.
Cassandra smiled lightly and said, “Her so–called biological mother and brothers. conducted a DNAtest with her and her biological father. They found her, and she was overjoyed. She gave up everythingshe had before adulthood and followed her biological mother and brothers back home.
“As a result, the adopted daughter of the family had expanded the bedroom to the girl’s room. She hadto sleep in a storeroom. Her brothers disliked her, and whenever the adopted daughter cried, all theblame fell on her. Being locked in a dark room, scolded, and beaten became a routine. Sometimes shecouldn’t even have a proper meal, or the food was spoiled. Those days were much worse than before. She also faced school violence, but she endured it silently, not wanting to cause trouble for her family.
“During the SAT, even though her results were good, her family insisted she give up her chance to goto university for the adopted daughter.
“But she foolishly thought her family just couldn’t accept her temporarily, so she tried her best to pleasethem. In the end, she paid the price. She was stranded on Desert Island for a month by her own family. She barely grew up but died at the hands of her so–called family.
“In the end, she was told that she wasn’t part of the family because her biological father had made amistake.” Cassandra looked at Leanna and asked faintly, “Ms. Leanna Stark, after experiencing all this, does that little girl still need her biological parents?”
Leanna was taken aback by the question. She thought, ‘Does she need her biological parents?
‘Does she really need them?

“What else did she need in such a life and experience?

“Living worse off than a stray dog because of familial ties, what use are those ties?”
Leanna responded indignantly, “Of course not. If given the chance, she could live just fine on her own.”
Cassandra chuckled and said, “I agree.”
She then turned to Darren and asked, “What do you think. Mr. Yates?”
“I…” Darren didn’t know what to say.
He had a strong feeling that Cassandra was talking about herself. Everything she said about the littlegirl aligned, except for the part about the death.
He regretted that he had been so impulsive these days and insisted on explaining.
He thought, ‘I was pushing her so hard, right?‘
Cassandra snorted and said sarcastically, “It seems that Mr. Yates doesn’t know it.
“So, please don’t ask me whether I accept you or forgive you again. Apart from giving me life, what Ihave experienced in my life is abandonment. You are the least qualified to ask for my acceptance andforgiveness.”
She suddenly stood up and continued. “Take good care of yourself these couple of days. WhenTheodore brings back the herbs I need, I’ll start detoxifying. Before that, if you need anything, just askHugo for help.”
Hugo nodded slightly, indicating that he was there. And Cassandra left directly.
Hugo felt heartbroken when he heard what Cassandra said just now. He thought, ‘Wasn’t that what Ms.Yates had experienced?
“But what about the death? Didn’t she cut ties with Benjamin’s family just two months after returning?
‘Did something else that I don’t know happen?
‘No one had experienced what she had.”
“Hugo, may I ask how many years have you been with Cassie?” Darren walked to Hugo’s side, and histone was very respectful. Although he didn’t need to be so

respectful considering his position, he did.
“More than seven years, Hugo replied with some melancholy. Darren felt envious that Hugo had beenwith Cassandra for so long.
“Then do you
know…” Darren continued.
“Mr. Yates, please don’t inquire about Ms. Yates from me unless she consents. Otherwise, I won’t sayanything.” Hugo interjected, leaving Darren disappointed.
Leanna was stunned for a moment and asked, “Did… Cassie live hard before?”
Before Hugo could answer, they heard an explosion outside!
“What’s going on?” Darren asked coldly, with some worries in his tone.
He escorted Leanna to the council chamber, where everyone approached her and said, “Your Majesty,Kamila has initiated another war and bombed several places.”
Leanna’s expression turned cold. She hadn’t expected it to happen so soon.
“Then we must prepare for battle, mobilize all our forces, and capture Kamila alive. Only then can thiswar be stopped,” she commanded.
A lot of people have died in this country.
If the fighting continued, even more would perish, and they would suffer a great economic recession.
Leanna couldn’t bear to see it happen. Ulrich entrusted the country to her, and she had theresponsibility to ensure its prosperity and well–being.
Someone replied, “Our people are already on it. I believe we will capture Kamila
alive soon.”
As they discussed their plans, another explosion echoed from outside.
Meanwhile, inside her room, Cassandra remained silent.
In a country torn apart by war, it was the ordinary people who suffered the most.
