Lacuna:

chapter 1

She sat under the oak tree, a book in hand and snow all around. 11 years ago today, she met a mysterious man who told her something she doesn't understand but can never forget.

Every day when the first snow fell, she would come to the oak tree in hopes of seeing him again, but he never came. Regardless of all of that, she remained hopeful and today as she sat under the tree, trying to distract herself with a book she doesn't even like, she's hoping that he'll come and tell her; he's not going anywhere anymore.

She would occasionally look around just to make sure he's not around hiding, but always turned back to the book with disappointment slowly clasping her in its hold, dimming out her once euphoric mood.

When she first saw the man, she was intrigued by him- his unusual height, burly physique and the warmth he exuded even in the icy cold weather, but what seemed to intrigue her more were his eyes; two snow-white orbs with a soft texture of gold in them. They were the most beautiful eyes she's ever seen.

Slowly closing her book, she moved off the swing and breathed out a sigh. Maybe it was all in her head, maybe he was never real. She turned around to take the route that led home but recoiled from fear.

In front of her was a black colossal wolf and if possible, it was bigger than her; its fur a glossy black with gold swirls on the face and neck, eyes focused on her and stance strong. Instead of feeling the fear she thought she'd feel, all she felt was warmth, curiosity and oddly love. The book in her hand fell to the ground and her focus zeroed on the creature in front of her. She surprised herself when she walked up to it. She's never been afraid of wild animals, yes, but she never dared to walk up to them whenever they were around, hence why her actions appalled her.

Once close enough to touch, she raised her gloved hand and gingerly touched the tip of its nose. Instead of cowering in fear, it pushed on her hand and laid its head on her shoulder. A deep purr rumbled in its chest and a shield of warmth engulfed them, "it's not time just yet Galinarael, but I will keep my promise and come back for you. Happy birthday my love."

Ice cold gale danced around her and in a blink of an eye, the wolf had vanished.
