Episode 13

I woke up to Carter shaking me awake. “W-w-what is going on?” I jolted upward and smacked my forehead on his. “Owww. Dam dude.” I cringed while running my forehead. He starts laughing at me. “I guess you aren’t that nervous if you could sleep like the dead.” he said. “What?” I looked towards the clock and jumped out of bed when I saw the time. “Holy s**t!! I only got an hour! How the hell did the time go by so quickly!?” I asked as I dashed to the bathroom to take care of business, while Carter is laughing harder now.

“Dude it is not like you have to dress fancy. Guys wear shorts and the girls have a thin dress to wear. The clothes are just gonna shred and tear when you shift anyway.” He said through the door. I brush my teeth and then open the door. “I know, but I still need to be proper. Not only in front of the alphas and the luna of this pack but there could be a chance that I could replace my mate tonight if all this works.” I said. Then I wash my face and we hear a knock on the door.

“Prince Luca? It’s me, Anthony. I have your medicine.” He sounded a little tired. I opened the door and there was Anthony with dark circles under his eyes. He gave a tired smile and held out a vial with a baby blue liquid inside. “Drink this and once the alphas all say the command it should invoke your shift.” I nodded and took the vial from him. “Are you ok?” I asked. Normally vampires would be pretty lively at night, but Anthony looked as if he could pass out right here and now. “Oh, I am fine. A little side effect of the potion that lets me stand in the sun. Once every few months I get so tired that I sleep for about three days straight. I just pushed it off for a day to make sure that this was ready in time, so I may sleep for an extra day or two.” As he stretched I heard a few of his joints popping.

“Well, I am going to bed. I hope everything goes well for you tonight.” He said and turned to walk away. “Thanks for everything Anthony.” I called out. He waved his hand and left around the corner. “Okay, let’s go.” I said half excited and half nervous.

Carter leads me to a clearing past the training grounds. Most of the pack members have already shifted and are standing around. I see all the ranked members standing on a makeshift stage. “Glad you made it, sleepyhead.” Tobias teased. I smirked. “Did you think I would miss seeing you grow up, little pup?” I fire back. Over the past two weeks, I had gotten to know more about Melody’s pack and those she calls family, even if they are not related by b***d.

Tobias and I seemed to click pretty well, even though he is younger than me. He rolled his eyes at me and I ruffled his hair. “Hey!” He cried out and I laughed. “I feel replaced.” Carter said as he held his chest in mock hurt. “Oh, no one could ever replace you Carter.” I said and grabbed him into a headlock. “Ah!, Okay. Okay.” He cried out and I let him go. I heard a giggle and looked over and saw Melody covering her mouth. She was so cute.

Tobias follows my gaze and smirks. He leans in closer to whisper to me. “Looks like the big bad royal has a little crush. Just so you know if you hurt her in any way, I will hurt you 10 times more.” His eyes were deadly serious. Before I could say anything back, Alpha Leo’s voice boomed through the field. “Alright the moon has almost reached its peak, so let us get ready.” Then he shifted into his wolf. He was all white.

“Those that are shifting for the first time, please remember to stay calm and trust your wolves. The first s**t is always the most painful, but that will vanish the more you shift over time.” Alpha Zero said before he shifted. Alpha Hero stepped forward next. “This time around we have some guests that will be shifting and running with us. Do not mistake them for rogues and attack. Remember that rogues have b***d-red eyes and would attack you first.” He nodded to me before he shifted.

“You need to drink your medicine now.” Melody said. I jumped a bit as she surprised me. “What?” I asked. She points to the vial in my pocket. “You need to drink that now. We are about to start and don’t worry. I will be right here with you. So would EJ and TJ.” She said with a smile. I swear she could get me to do anything with a smile like that. I take out the vial and down it all in one go. It was mildly sweet.

After I am done, Tobias grabs the vial and in a quick flash of light, it disappears from his hands. “Don’t worry, I just teleported it back to my room. You wouldn’t want it to break while you shifted.” I nodded. Luna Jessabelle took the stage. “Alright, the moon is just about at its peak. All members that are helping the new shifters, please shift now.” After she finished she shifted into a black wolf with a moon over one of her eyes.

One by one the ranked members except for Sabrina shifted into their wolves. Melody and her brothers followed suit. They told me they would shift oldest to youngest so I could tell the twins apart. Ethan shifted and his wolf was just as big as their fathers, but all his fur was black as their mothers. His eyes were an orangish-red color and were glowing like flames of a fire.

Terrence shifted next. I was surprised. Usually, identical twins would have the same wolves, like the alpha triplets, but Terrence was like a huge version of a Siberian Huskey. He was just as big as Ethan and had white fur covering his face, belly, and legs. His ears and back were covered in black fur, and his tail was like an equal mix of white and black. His eyes were a clear crystal blue. At first glance, you would have mistaken his eyes to be almost pure white.

I then heard more shifting. I looked over to where Melody was standing and saw a sight that took my breath away. Melody’s wolf was a beautiful, strong, and pure white wolf. With eyes that looked bluer than the ocean. Before I realized what I was doing. I had walked up to Melody’s wolf and was looking up to it. She was huge. She was just as big as her brothers and fathers. Her wolf stood tall and never broke eye contact with me. I reached up and gently stroked her fur.

It was cool like ice but soft as silk. Another difference. Most wolves’ fur feels warm to the touch and sometimes becomes rough over time. I felt a vibration rumble through her body. Her wolf was purring. Her wolf didn’t mind me touching her. I was pulled back into reality when Sasha, one of the twin betas, started to speak to me in my head. ‘Your highness, it is time for us to begin.’ She spoke quietly. I nodded. “Okay.” I said out loud, and stepped back from Melody’s wolf.

‘Alright, I am gonna connect you with the alphas.’ Sasha said. I looked at her and nodded. I felt something begin to stir inside me as Sasha connected me with the alphas, Melody, and the twins. ‘Can you hear us ok?’ Alpha Leo asked. ‘Yes sir.’ I answered. ‘Okay. We are gonna begin now. Try to stay as relaxed as possible. Don’t fight the shift.’ He warned. I closed my eyes and nodded. Then in unison, they all yelled ‘SHIFT!’

The next thing I knew, I felt the push of their command. The thing that I felt stirring around in my body began to go crazy. I clenched my teeth as I felt my bones start to break slowly and rearrange themselves. My body started to feel as if it was on fire. Then when I thought the pain would make me pass out. I felt something cool and soft around me. ‘Relax Luca. Let him take control. He is a part of you.’ a familiar soft voice spoke. Melody.

It felt like forever as I felt my bones break and pop to reshape my form. When the pain finally started to die down. I opened my eyes. I looked down and saw two large paws in front of me instead of my hands. I was lying on the ground, panting. I tried to stand up. It felt a little wobbly and fell back down. It was almost like I was a baby deer instead of an alpha wolf. I felt a nudge from behind me. Ethan’s wolf was pushing me to try and stand again. ‘Come on. I know it is weird the first time, but you got to stand up.’ He spoke as he continued to nudge me.

With his and Terrence’s help, I stood up. I closed my eyes and shook my head and body. ‘Hello, Luca.’ A deep voice echoed through my mind. ‘What the-. Wait, could you be who I think you are?’ I heard the voice chuckle. ‘Yes. I am your wolf. My name is Remus. I am so glad to finally connect to you.’ I was excited. So excited to finally have my wolf that I raised my giant head and howled. The howl echoed through the clearing. Then I noticed that all the wolves were bowing their heads in respect. Even the triplet alphas and Luna Jessabelle’s wolves were bowing.

Then I took a good sniff of the air. Testing out my senses. The most wonderful scent of lavender and honey hit my nose. Remus yipped and jumped in my head. ‘Mate. Mate. Mate.’ He chanted. I wasted no time. I followed the scent. When I finally reached the wolf it was coming from… My heart thumped, Remus howled in happiness, and I was a goner.
