Episode 16

EJ and TJ were going to end this quickly. Fire was dancing on Apollo’s black fur as they invoked their gift forward. Electricity was sparking off of Thor’s fur. My brother’s didn’t wait for the rogues to make the first move. They lunged right at them. The rogues still not backing down tried to swipe and bite my brothers, but my brothers and their wolves were in perfect sync.

Apollo ran around in a circle and used his flames to trap one of the rogues in a ring of fire. Since his flames give off more heat than regular fire, the rogue was pushed to the middle where it was a sitting duck. EJ’s best gift is that he can not only control fire, but create fire from his own body heat. We also discovered that the more pissed he can get, the hotter his flames are. Apollo ran right through the flames and clamped his jaws on the back of the rogue’s neck. Within seconds the rogue burst into flames and turned to ashes. A quick death.

I felt someone was trying to make a connection with me. ‘Artemis?’ I asked. She didn’t answer me. She just turned around and opened our mind to whomever it was that was trying to speak to us. I saw that it was one of the rogues that had submitted to me. A gray and white patched wolf. They were slightly larger than the others, but still smaller than us alphas. ‘Princess, please… My name is Duke and that last rogue. He has my mate in prisoned somewhere. Please don’t kill him until I know where my mate is being held. I need her back.’ He begged.

I didn’t waste time answering. I broke the connection and turned back to TJ and Thor. They were just about to sink their teeth into the rogue’s neck. I could see that he couldn’t fight any more. Thor had broken his leg and had him pinned down to the ground with his massive body. Artemis growled to get our brother’s attention as I used the pack link to speak with TJ. ‘TJ STOP! That wolf needs to be taken for questioning.’ Thor stopped and looked at me. ‘Mel are you crazy? This guy is as wild as rogues come. He tried to kill you.’ TJ roared in my head.

‘He took someone’s mate. We need to help them get their mate back.’ I stated plain and simple and with authority. I may not be able to use the alpha command on my older brothers, but Artemis and I will always demand that our voice is heard as equal to theirs. I saw Thor’s head turn to Apollo. Apollo looked at me. ‘Mel are you sure about this? It is hard to trust these rogues until we get them in front of mom, but this one had not only trespassed on pack territory, but tried to harm and kill an alpha.’ EJ’s voice came through clear and stern like a normal older brother tone.

I thought for a minute before I answered. ‘Artemis? What is your opinion?’ I asked. My wolf and I were one. I always ask for her input when it comes to big decisions. Like trusting a wolf we just met about his mate being held against her will. Even I know it sounds stupid, but mates always cut to my heart. I will protect any mate pairing… even if it means going at it alone. ‘You know I will back you up. A wolf would never lie about their mate unless they were really sick and twisted. Besides, we will know more with mama’s gift.’ She said, trying to encourage what I believe.

‘And if he was so sick and twisted to use his mate to pull at your heartstrings… Don’t you think he would have tried to harm our mate while we were busy with the others that didn’t submit to us?’ She tossed out. That was true. Any creature becomes incredibly weak if harm comes to their mate. They would feel their mate’s pain as their own. ‘You’re right. We will go with our gut.’ I told her then linked my brothers. ‘We will take him and these others back with us to the pack house. He will be in a cell alone and the others will be in a different holding cell until we speak with our parents.’

My brothers looked at each other and then back to me. They nodded. Thor swatted the rogue with his paw and knocked him out cold. He then began to drag him towards the pack house. I turned to the wolf called Duke and connected with him again. ‘Duke, we will take you and the others back to our pack house, but please understand that you all will be placed in a holding cell until us and our parents speak with you.’ I said in my most alpha tone.

Duke bowed his head deeply. ‘Yes princess. My human will explain everything to the others once we shift back.’ I nodded. I turned to check on Luca and he was staring at the ground. Almost as if he was pouting. Artemis whined in our mind, but we would wait until we were alone with our mate to shower emotion. Showing emotion to rogues is a form of weakness. We nudged our mate and he started to walk with us. Apollo walked in the back as the rogues that submitted followed Luca and I. All I could think about was how my mate was feeling and hoping that I was not making a big mistake.
