Episode 31

Melody’s POV

Some sicko did what? I stood there dumbfounded as Aunt Sabrina and Aunt Shianna told me what they saw. I shook my head to clear my thoughts. “Ok, so I guess I should go to Maine sooner than I thought.” I said. “Are you crazy? You just got back from Russia and after everything that has happened you are going to leave the safety of the packlands again?” Dad half yelled. I sighed. “Dad, I need to replace all my mates as soon as I can. I need to be marked and mated with them before we are out of time, and now I have some mystery psycho after me for who knows what reason.” I counter. My fathers always worried about my safety and well being, but I am not a child anymore.

I was a young woman that needed all of her mates, and it was my mates’ job to protect me should anything come after me. “She is right, Leo. When she and her mates fully complete their bond, then no matter what kind of magic someone uses they would be able to replace her faster than what happened with me.” Mama said as she laid her hand on dad’s arm to comfort him. Dad sighed. “Fine, but you are taking the triplets for extra protection.” “And no going off on your own for any reason, understood Melody?” Daddy said with a sharp glare. I gulped. “Yes, daddy. I understand.”

Then the door opened and Tucker, Tobias, and Tony walked in. “You called for us, Alpha Hero?” Tucker said. Papa nodded. “You three need to pack. You will be going with Melody, her mates, the twins, and Zezar to replace Melody’s last mate in Maine.” Papa said. “Wait, Mel has more than one mate?” Tobias asked. “Yes and we will catch you up on the way on why, but we need to leave ASAP.” I said. “What is the sudden rush?” Tony asked. “Because your mom and aunt just had a shared vision of some sick bastard ripping Mel’s eye out.” EJ said. The triplets’ eyes turned dark and growled.

“We should send a female warrior with them too. That way someone is sleeping in the same room as Melody as well.” Aunt Shianna suggested. “But who would we trust with something like this?” Daddy asked. “I would be happy to go.” A soft voice came from the door. We all turned to see a familiar face. “My my, Star Martinez. Look at you sweetie.” Mama cooed as she walked over and hugged her. She had ash blue eyes and light brown hair that went to the middle of her back. She was a few inches shorter than me and besides my alpha strength, Star was pretty strong herself. Plus she was also a gifted wolf. She could manipulate water and even freeze it, but unlike Ethan that can create fire himself, Star had to actually be around a good size body of water. As long as there was water nearby, she could snap her fingers and transport water to her. Uncle Raphael used to tell us stories of when she was first learning her powers. Star kept flooding different rooms of the pack house whenever she lost her temper as a young pup.

“What are you doing here?” Dad asked. She smiled and reached into her backpack. “Uncle Rapheal asked me to deliver this to you guys. Something about the rogue she-wolves that were sent to Thunder Mountain.” she said. Dad took the envelope she was holding out to him. He pulled out some papers and read through them. “Well it seems that all the she-wolves have been matched up. Some of them even got mated to the wolves within the Thunder Mountain pack.” Dad said with a smile on his face. “But Star, are you really able to just drop everything and leave?” mama asked. Star nodded. “This was my last task before I started my first search for my mate, so I have a packed bag and Uncle Raphael’s permission to leave the pack lands for a while. Same with Wilson and Maria.” She said.

I jumped up and hugged her. She has always been the older sister I needed at times, especially since mama and I were outnumbered in our own house sometimes. “It would be so great if you came along. Who knows, maybe we will get lucky enough for you to replace your mate while we are at it.” I said with a wink. I hear a couple of huffs and g****s behind me. I turned to see my brothers, Tucker, and Tony shaking their heads. I roll my eyes. “You know, we need to replace your mates too. This groaning is getting old.” I snapped. They looked shocked and then everyone in the room burst into fits of laughter. All of a sudden Tony starts sniffing the air. “Looks like one down, and three to go.” I teased.

The doors opened again and we saw Maria and Wilson coming in. Maria ran straight into Tony’s arms. They both smiled as they nuzzled each other. Even though Maria is older by six years, Tony was still taller than her. “Wow, an older woman, Toby. Never knew you were into cougars. Hahaha.” Tobias said laughing. “Owww.” He yelped as his mother swatted him in the back of the head. I turned back to Wilson and he was still sniffing the air. Then Hector and his mate came into view, followed by Tina. As soon as Wilson saw Tina, he rushed towards her and inhaled her scent deeply. “Mine.” He growled.

“Well that works too.” I said looking at Star. She smiled. The twins have been waiting a long time for their mates. “I know Maria is still coming, but are you Wilson?” I asked. He shook his head. “I am going to get to know my mate and head back home to tell our parents, but I’ll leave it to Maria to tell them about her mate.” He said, as he hugged his blushing mate closer. I nod. “Well everyone that is going, let’s go then. Since we are looking for mates along the way I think we should drive to Maine instead of fly.” I said looking at everyone. They nodded and headed out. I went over and hugged mama and each of my fathers. I squeezed extra tight when I got to dad. ‘Don’t worry dad. I forgive you and I still love you more than anything.’ I said to him over a private mind link. He squeezed me tighter before he let me go. ‘I love you too my little princess.’ He replied back. I smiled at them and left to go change for the trip.

After a couple hours, everyone was packed and ready to go. It would be EJ, TJ, Luca, Jeremiah, and I riding in a big dodge ram pickup truck with everyone’s suitcases and a couple of coolers with snacks and drinks. Star, Tucker, Tobais, Tony, Zezar, and Maria riding in a big SUV. EJ and Tucker were first round drivers. All of a sudden I got the feeling I was being watched again. I started looking around the area. “You ok, Mel?” Star asked. I smiled at her. “Yeah. Just ever since I turned 18 and came of age… I sometimes get the feeling that someone is watching me. Though it is never a bad feeling.” I said while rubbing the back of my neck. Star looked a bit concerned. “Is that why the triplets are uneasy about you being away from the pack lands?” she asked. I nod. “But we can’t let whoever or whatever stop me from living my life and replaceing my mates.” I said, beaming a smile at her. “Well then let’s get on the road.” She said, returning my smile.

Third Person POV

As Melody and the others were loading up into their cars for the trip out east, there was someone watching them. Two someones actually. About 50 yards away from where the vehicles were parked, standing on a tree branch high on the ground. A young male and female were watching them load up. “Looks like they are heading to the next one, brother.” The female said, watching Melody get into her truck. “It seems so.” The male replied.

“How do you think mother is doing right now?” The female asked her brother. Thinking about how upset her mother would be at them when she realized that her children were gone. He shrugged. “Don’t know, dear sister, but we have a duty to do. Mother will understand, if we ever see her again.” He said, turning his gaze to the sky. “You mean ‘when’ we see her again.” His sister corrected. She was always the more hopeful type, while her brother was the ‘serious about his duty’ type. He gave his sister a faint smile.

“Even if we never see our mother again, she has always told us… ‘In this world your duty should always be above matters of the heart.’ Remember?” He asked. His sister sighed and nodded. That was their mother’s motto because even her own mate had broken her. “Let’s go. We need to keep the cars in sight.” He said and then he started jumping from branch to branch while watching the cars that had begun to drive down the road. His sister placed her hands together in prayer. ‘Please keep M’lady, brother, and mother as well as can be on this mission. Thank you, Mother Selene.’ She prayed before she started jumping from branch to branch following her brother.
