Luca’s POV

Melody closed her beautiful eyes so she could link whoever she needed to. “Well, while we wait for her. Here is your wine Luca.” Jayde said sweetly, holding the glass for me to take. “You know I hardly drink, Jayde.” I said, raising an eyebrow at her. “I know, but with all the stress from the elders and Prince Chester… you could use something to take the edge off tonight. Besides, what is one drink going to hurt?” she said with a teasing smile. I breathe deeply. ‘One drink wouldn’t kill me. Wolf or no wolf, and feeling a bit buzz might make me more relaxed after this so far eventful evening.’ I take the glass from Jayde and raise it to my lips. Then a small hand gripped my wrist hard. “DON’T DRINK THAT!” Melody roared at me.

I looked at her in confusion, and a bit surprised, but she turned her head to Jayde with a glare that would have sent Jayde straight to the underworld, if looks could kill. “W-w-what? Why are you looking at me like that?” Jayde stuttered out. Melody takes the glass from my hand and with her free hand, she grabs Jayde by the hair and begins to lead her away, well more like drag her away, back to the ballroom. “Melody, what has gotten into you?!” I yell after her, but she ignores me and continues dragging Jayde to wherever she was going. All I could do was follow after them. Melody looked as if she was out for b***d.

I noticed the direction she was walking in. She was heading straight for my parents, who were speaking to Jayde’s parents and Melody’s parents. Alpha Zero seemed to notice us first. He smirked when he saw Melody dragging Jayde, who was kicking and screaming, toward them by the hair. Everyone’s attention was drawn to us once again. Melody without hesitation threw Jayde at the feet of my parents. “What is the meaning of this?!” Jayde’s father, Jason, growled as he glared daggers at Melody.

Melody growled at him and Jason bared his neck in submission. Her aura was filling the room heavily again. “This heartless b***h has hurt Luca physically and publicly, so I thought she should feel exactly what he felt for all these years.” Melody spat. I was stunted. ‘What? Jayde could never hurt me. She was one of my very few best friends’ “Melody, Jayde would never do something like that. She wants me to be her chosen mate, even though I have no wolf. Why would she hurt me?” I spoke. Melody growled. “STOP SAYING YOU HAVE NO WOLF!” She roared and it shook the room. “MELODY!” The triplet alphas boomed in unison, shaking the room again. Melody breathed deeply, as if to control herself better, before continuing. “I am a special wolf. I can speak to the inner souls of any supernatural creature. Jayde’s wolf, Roxie, told me what Jayde has been planning to do to Luca and what she has already done to him.”

Melody looked at me, then at my parents. “Luca has his wolf. Jayde here has been slipping Luca some kind of potion that seals his wolf deep inside him. To prevent him from replaceing his true mate and to force his hand into marrying her. She wants to be queen and only for power the title provides, she cares nothing for the well being and the protection of the wolves within this kingdom.” She spoke loud and clear for everyone in the room to hear. “W-w-what? I would never do that to Luca. We grew up together. We even dated a bit before he came of age. I have been nothing but supportive of him, even when people treated him like nothing for having no wolf. I was always by his side!” Jayde snarled out as she rose to her feet.

It was true. Even if I didn’t love her as she loves me, she was always there and had my back. “Lies.” Luna Jessabelle spoke calmly. Everyone snapped to her. My father clenched his fist at his sides and my mother covered her mouth with her hand. “Where is your proof?” Jayde snapped. Looking between Melody and Luna Jessabelle. “Please call your royal wizard King Alfred?” Melody asked. My father nodded without question or hesitation. Within moments our royal wizard, Alistar Locksworth, came to his side. “Yes, my king?” He asked.

Alistar was maybe a little older than my father, but still, quite fit for his age. Well, that could be said for all supernatural creatures. Time moved more slowly for us, but time seemed to freeze for witches, wizards, and those b***d-sucking leeches. Leeches are what most of us werewolves call vampires. I personally hate those b***d-drinking bastards. They are nothing but a nuisance. My father saved Alistar’s life during some war with the vampires and they have been together ever since. Just as close as brothers.

“This is Melody Jackman, she wished to speak with you.” my father spoke. Alistar turned to Melody and bowed his head. “What can I do for you, princess?” Everyone except for Melody and her parents looked shocked when Alistar addressed Melody as a ‘princess.’ Ignoring us around her, Melody held the glass of wine she had taken from me to Alistar. “Could you please check this wine for any magical properties? It is the glass of werewine that Jayde here had given to Luca out in the garden a few moments ago.” Melody looked at Jayde as she said that last part.

“How do I know you didn’t slip something in there to fram me? You have been pretty handsy with Luca all night. Even calling him by his name when you are nothing more than a lower wolf in our kingdom.” Melody stood tall and handed the glass to Alistar, who started chanting a spell on it. Melody then walked over to Jayde, grabbed her by the throat, and lifted her off the ground so that she was dangling. Melody started to speak and everyone focused on her.

“I fight for what is right, I was raised to be honest not only to my heart and soul but to my wolf. The human side may be the dominant side and in control whether in wolf form or human form, but the wolf side is still a part of who we are.” I could see her hand tighten around Jayde’s throat and I tried to step forward to stop her, but two large hands rested on each of my shoulders. I looked back and saw Melody’s brothers from earlier. Their eyes told me to watch and see what was to happen. I sigh and turn back in Melody’s direction.

“For something like you that calls her own wolf, her other half, a mutt or a mongrel… is lower than even a pile of s**t to me. Titles and bloodlines mean nothing if you can not be one with your inner soul or be with your true mate. Vampire, werebear, weretiger, fairy, siren, or even a f*****g dragon. We are all the same in the Moon Goddess’s eyes. It is human counterparts like you that poison this world with your shallow and power-hungry thoughts and beliefs.” Then Melody dropped Jayde. She landed on the floor gasping for air, and I could see a dark bruise forming on her throat. Melody then keeled down to her, “Plus how could I have slipped anything in the glass, when the first thing I did after taking the glass from Luca… Was dragging your worthless a*s here by your hair?” ‘That is right. Melody’s hands were both full! She couldn’t have put anything in the glass to frame Jayde.’

“She is correct.” I heard Alistar say in a deep and dark voice. A tone I never heard him speak in before. Everyone’s eyes went back to him. “This glass was laced with a very strong potion that would make anyone that drinks it incoherent and easy to manipulate into anything the first person they saw wanted.” ‘What?!’ I was stunned. Melody was right. Melody scoffed. “Roxie told me you were going to try and get Luca to sleep with you. If you were to become pregnant with his child, those fool elders would force him to take you as his mate and queen.” I looked at Jayde and she turned pale.

She met my eyes and shook her head. “NO! I didn’t do any of this. Luca I-” “She is lying.” Luna Jessabelle calmly said once again. Even though she spoke calmly, she was glaring daggers at Jayde. Even my parents were glaring at Jayde. “I am not. I-” “ENOUGH!” Alpha Leo roared. “You are not getting out of this… Our mate is also a special wolf just like our children. One of her gifts is that she can tell when people are lying. If she were to touch you right now, you would be compelled to say nothing but the truth to any question asked to you.” He stated.

I looked at my parents. My father met my gaze and he nodded to me. He knew. So Jayde has been lying the whole time. Melody saved me from being trapped in an unwanted marriage. Jason and Emily looked stunned at their daughter. I can’t bring myself to believe that someone I considered a good friend would do this to me and all for power and a title. “Jayde Whitmore, you are hereby banished from the Royal Moon pack and classified as a rogue. If you shall ever set foot in our territory ever again you will be killed.” My father’s voice boomed through the whole ballroom. I looked at Jayde in anger and disgust as my father called some warriors to take her away. “Melody, you say I have a wolf. Will you help me figure out how to bring him out?” I asked. She looked at me and then thought to herself for a moment. Then she smiled and nodded. “Of course. Your mate is out there waiting for you. I will do what I can to help you.” I felt that her smile was a bit forced as she said that part about my mate and I felt a small pinch in my chest. ‘Why did I feel nervous to replace my mate all of a sudden?’
