Love at the Door
Chapter 38

Chapter 38

Melina couldn’t help but think back to the first time she’d visited his house. She wanted to stand up for herself, but Andrew made her apologize. But now, he was telling her to stand up for herself.

After a long pause, she replied, “Okay.”

She didn’t want to reveal the emotions in her eyes. She closed them, and her eyelashes fluttered.

Andrew didn’t realize if he had asked Melina to move back now and suggested they try to get along, she would have agreed.

But Andrew thought her dependence on him wasn’t strong enough yet.

He decided to strike while the iron was hot. After all these days, his patience for playing this game with a woman was running thin. Her soft scent lingering in the air made him subconsciously relax, yet it only strengthened his resolve to seize control.

He glanced at Melina, nestled quietly in his arms with her eyes closed, and sent a message to Toby.

“It’s time. Do it now.”

Toby, who must have been waiting by the phone, responded almost immediately.

“Andrew, are you sure about this? There’s no need to rush. It’s better to take your time when winning over a woman. This method carries too much risk. It’s dangerous.”

“Stop talking. Just get it done.”

“Alright. But please be careful.”

“I will.”

Andrew locked his phone and looked at Melina again, waiting.

Melina was curled up in his arms, wrapped in his coat, drowsy from exhaustion. The car was quiet as it moved along the road.

Suddenly, the brakes screeched loudly.

Bang!

Under normal circumstances, Melina would’ve reacted quickly. But in her drowsy state, she couldn’t comprehend what was happening.

The next moment, Andrew grabbed her waist and swiftly turned, shielding her between the seat and his body.

Andrew took the impact from the shattering glass and the whole crash.

Melina finally realized what had happened. She clutched the front of his shirt panicking. “Andrew! Are you okay? Are you hurt?”

Andrew didn’t move.

In her panic, Melina touched his back and felt something damp. When she pulled her hand away, it was covered in blood.

Her voice shook with fear. “Andrew, you’re scaring me! Why did you save me? I thought you hated me! Someone, help! Please!”

Andrew stirred and whispered hoarsely, “I don’t hate you, and I didn’t want you to get hurt.”

Melina widened her eyes in shock.

Her ears were ringing, and all she could hear was her heart pounding.

Andrew didn’t want her to get hurt. He had risked his life to protect her. She didn’t understand why he was being so kind to her.

Rescue workers arrived quickly, prying open the crumpled car and pulling them out. When Andrew was freed, people swarmed around

him, pushing.Melina aside.

She stumbled and fell aside. She saw shards of glass embedded in his back, his shirt soaked in blood.

Melina wanted to get closer, but the crowd made it impossible.

Just then, Andrew turned and called out, “Melina, come with me.”

The crowd parted, and Andrew watched as Melina ran toward him with a burning intensity in her eyes.

Andrew’s lips curled into the faintest smile. This woman had finally chosen to run to his side.
