Love at the Door -
Chapter 46
Chapter 46
The bandages removed were covered with blood. When Melina saw the criss–crossed wounds on Andrew’s back, her lips were pursed tightly.
Toby threw a glance at Andrew and said in his heart, “Was it really necessary to wait deliberately or her to come so she would see your wounds when you got your dressing changed?
“You’re so inhumane, Andrew!”
Toby closed Andrew’s wounds up swiftly.
Melina’s heart ached so much that her eyes were red–rimmed.
The three of them went downstairs to have breakfast after that.
The atmosphere at the dining table was too quiet.
To break the silence, Toby said, “Mrs. Wentworth, your cooking is scrumptious. Can I come over more often to eat?”
“Sure. Whenever you’re coming, just call ahead of time so I can prepare more food for you.”
Since Andrew was injured this time round and Dr. Ludwig had been. such a great help, Melina thought that she ought to be nicer to Dr. Ludwig.
Toby’s eyes crinkled up as he smiled. “This tomato salsa would taste
better with coriander in it.”
“Andrew doesn’t eat coriander.”
“No one is as picky as Andrew is when it comes to food.”
Melina nodded in agreement. She too had never seen anyone who was as picky as Andrew was when it came to food.
Andrew didn’t speak a word,
The atmosphere was somewhat pleasant after Toby broke the ice.
That was precisely what Linda saw when she came in through the
door.
The three of them were seated together enjoying their breakfast harmoniously.
“Wasn’t that maid previously chased out? How dare she still eat opposite Andrew?” Linda thought angrily.
She saw on the news that Andrew was involved in a car accident.
She also saw the picture of a woman tugging on Andrew’s shirt in that article.
Even though the picture only showed this woman’s back, Linda could tell right away that it was that maid.
Didn’t Louis mention that he was going to teach that maid a lesson?
Why would she be in the car accident with Andrew?
Linda had no interest in confronting Louis about it. She came to Oakread right away instead and saw that scene before her eyes.
Linda was filled with turmoil. She wanted to scream, cry, and fuss around but the sliver of rationale she had within her forced her to
calm down.
She dashed to Andrew’s side and sat down beside him. Concern was written all over her face when she said, “I heard you were in an
accident, Andrew, Are you okay?”
Andrew’s face was calm as he replied, “I’m fine. I just have some minor injuries on my back.”
Linda leaned in very close to Andrew. From an angle, she looked like
she was clinging onto him, but in reality, she wasn’t touching him at all
There was hesitation on her face, as if she had made a big decision at the next moment. She gritted her feath as she announced, “I’m very worried about you, Andrav
“I would like to stay at Oakraad to take care of you.”
Melina, who was eating, froze,
She knew how well Andrew treated Linda.
She didn’t mind before this, but at that moment, she was a little afraid.
She was afraid that Andrew would allow Linda to stay and would get her to leave once more.
Andrew placed his cutleries down and looked at Linda. “Your health isn’t the greatest, Rest.”
“It’s fine, Andrew, I’ve been taking my medication diligently. I feel so much better now.”
Linda’s voice had a pleading tinge with a touch of sadness that would melt any man’s heart.
However, Andrew’s expression was still the same. “Linda, you know my rules. No one stays over at Oakread.”
At that moment, Linda could barely contain her jealousy. If he didn’t allow people to stay overnight, why was that maid allowed to stay?
“All these years, you’ve been the same to everyone else, but your
treated me differently. Only I can be the recipient of such treatment. How could someone else now share that privilege ?” Linda roared in her heart.
She was Linda Thompson. Was she less important than a mere maid?
Tears poured out of Linda’s eyes. She tearfully complained, “If no one
is allowed to stay over at Oakread, why was this maid allowed to stay the last time?
“Andrew, we’ve had this relationship for so many years now. Am I incomparable to a mere maid?”
