Chapter 54

Thinking about the salary, Melina struggled to keep her serious expression from breaking into a smile.

Alfred was much more polite than before. “Ms. Crawford, since today’s Thursday, you can come back next Monday.”

Hearing Alfred address her as “Ms. Crawford‘ with such politeness, Melina felt a bit shy.

She had been planning to mention that she was free tomorrow, Friday, but since they had asked her to come on Monday, she decided not to push it.

In a good mood, she signed the contract and received today’s payment–a thousand dollars in cash.

reyes.

Melina smiled so brightly that her smile nearly reached the corners of her

She planned to save 800 dollars to send back to her school and use the remaining 200 dollars to buy some delicious food for Andrew to help him recover his strength.

She headed to the shopping center Andrew had taken her to before.

The center was large, filled with various types of stores. Melina headed straight for the fresh food market.

She bought some beef, half a chicken, some vegetables, and finally, a fish.

Lately, she’d realized that Andrew didn’t dislike fish–he just hated the bones. If she removed them all, he would eat it.

With that in mind, she bought just enough, spending nearly the entire 200 dollars. Passing by the eggs, Melina hesitated but ultimately didn’t buy them.

She was used to saving where she could. Back in the mountains, children barely had enough rice to eat, let alone eggs.

When she returned to the apartment, Andrew still wasn’t back.

Melina prepared the chicken soup first before moving on to the fish.

She was skilled with a knife, and after cleaning and fileting the fish, she carefully used tweezers to pull out every single bone.

It took over an hour, but she was finally satisfied when even the tiniest bones were gone, and she began cooking the fish.

By the time dinner was ready, it was already six in the evening.

Still, Andrew hadn’t come home.

Worried he might return late like before, Melina thought about calling him, but she didn’t have his phone

number.

-She couldn’t help but wonder if he was still working late, even with his injuries. Did he at least remember

to eat?

After thinking for a moment, she packed the dinner into a thermal lunchbox and decided to bring it to him.

She had heard that Andrew worked at Wentworth Corporation.

When she arrived and saw the towering skyscraper, Melina was momentarily stunned. “This was Mr. Wentworth Senior’s company?” she thought to herself.

Just when she thought she had a grasp on the Wentworth family’s situation, something always exceeded

her expectations.

The Wentworth family stood on such a high pedestal, one she could never hope to reach.

How could she and Andrew ever live as husband and wife?

Melina walked toward the entrance of the building, but when she saw a security guard approaching, she remembered that Andrew had told her about their secret marriage.

He didn’t want anyone to know about their relationship, fearing it would bring shame.

Panicked, she quickly turned around and ran, hiding from view.

She hadn’t done anything wrong, yet she couldn’t show herself openly.

Holding the thermal lunchbox, Melina found herself standing there, unsure of what to do next.
