Love at the Door -
Chapter 65
Chapter 65
1/3
Tensions were about to explode.
Linda secretly hoped things would escalate, as she wanted Andrew to teach Melina a lesson.
But to her surprise, the usually cold and ruthless Andrew managed to keep his temper in check.
In a controlled voice, Andrew ordered, “Get your store manager.”
A sales assistant immediately rushed to the second floor to fetch the manager.
When the manager arrived, Andrew asked directly, “Who sent Melina the gown?”
The store manager didn’t dare to offend Andrew and quickly responded, “Mr. Wentworth, it was Mr. Wentworth Senior who sent it.”
The sharp edge in Andrew’s demeanor softened as his eyebrows lifted slightly.
Melina’s expression also relaxed upon hearing the answer.
So, it was Wallace. Of course
Wallace must’ve been worried that she didn’t have a
dress for the banquet and took care of everything for her.
Suddenly, her mood brightened, like a child receiving a thoughtful gift from a grandparent. However, the thought of the gown’s expensive price tag left her feeling, undeserving.
Off to the side, Linda was practically fuming. Her face darkened, and she snapped
her long nails in her frustration.
She was sure Melina was shamelessly clinging to some wealthy man. How could it be Wallace who gifted her the gown? Why would he give a maid something so expensive?
Linda’s composure crumbled.
Linda yanked one of the women behind her forward suddenly.
“Andrew, there was a bit of a situation earlier. Sarah and Ms. Crowford had a conflict, and Ms. Crowford kicked her. Sarah’s been complaining about some stomach pain ever since. I worry that if she attends the banquet like this, Wallace and the others might not take it well,” Linda said.
The woman in the black dress that had a faint footprint, lowered her head as she muttered, “Andrew…”
Melina turned to look at her too. The once arrogant and overbearing girl couldn’t lift her head in Andrew’s presence.
Linda continued, “Well, to be fair, Sarah and her friends did start it. They were immature and said hurtful things, but Ms. Crowford shouldn’t have retaliated so harshly. I think it’s best if we send Sarah home.”
Andrew was a little impatient. Why did there have to be so much drama?
Sarah was Toby’s younger sister, which gave her a slight edge in Andrew’s mind, and this had afforded her a bit more tolerance than other people.
Andrew turned to Melina. “Why did you kick her?”
Sarah had taken a kick from the look of things, and another girl had even cut her hair. It seemed like Melina had lashed out violently.
Linda shot a smug glance at Melina as if she and Andrew were on one side and
Melina was alone on the other.
A wave of bitterness crept over Melina. Did Andrew not believe her either?
She’d been careful, only aiming to cause a bit of pain and nothing that would cause actual harm. But Andrew hadn’t even bothered to hear her side, simply listening to Linda’s version and asking why she’d hit anyone.
Melina’s eyes dimmed as she looked up at him and said softly, “Andrew, you told me once that if someone bullies me, I can defend myself.”
Andrew froze for a moment, and his gaze shifted to Sarah. “I’ll ask this once, did. Melina bully you and your friends?”
Sarah was so nervous, and she was on the verge of tears.
Linda kept shooting her pointed glances, but Sarah, as the spoiled youngest of the Thomas family, feared no one but Andrew.
Sarah didn’t dare lie even if she caught Linda’s signals.
Sarah said, “No… We started the fight and Melina just fought back after it.”
Linda cursed internally as she was furious at Sarah’s incompetence.
Andrew quickly grasped the situation and barked out after hearing the truth, “Stop causing trouble everywhere you go. Get home now!”
“Okay, okay! I’m leaving now!” Sarah dashed out as if her life were dependent on it, showing no signs of the supposed stomach pain.

Linda hadn’t expected the issue to be dismissed so easily. Even though Melina had only acted in self–defense, she had struck Sarah.
Linda had done everything she could to prevent Melina from attending the banquet, yet it still hadn’t worked.
