Love at the Door -
Chapter 66
Chapter 66
The next moment, Linda’s face went pale, and she swayed as if she were struggling to breathe.
Andrew’s expression darkened instantly. “Relax your breathing. I’ll take you to the hospital.”
Then, he glanced over at Melina as if he remembered something. I’ll have the bodyguard take you to the banquet first.”
“Andrew…” Linda’s voice was filled with frustration and sorrow. Linda didn’t expect that with her health in question, Andrew still insisted on sending Melina to the
banquet.
As Andrew helped Linda into the car, he said in a cold tone without any emotion,” Linda, don’t ever try to manipulate me again, especially not in front of me. Even if your don’t attend the banquet, Melina still will. Do you understand?”
At that moment, the breath Linda was struggling to take seemed to stop entirely.
However, Andrew acted as though he hadn’t said anything out of the ordinary. “Keep breathing,” he reminded her softly.
He then drove off with Linda and left Melina alone with a bodyguard.
The stern bodyguard glanced between the departing Andrew and the stunningly beautiful Melina. He was too nervous to speak or move.
Melina stood there for a while. She didn’t want to attend the banquet alone, but thinking of Wallace, she steeled herself and said to the bodyguard, “Let’s go.”
“Okay,” he replied.
The bodyguard drove Melina to the banquet and stopped at the entrance of what appeared to be a private event. “Ms. Crawford, we’ve arrived. You can go in, but I can’t accompany you inside.”
“Thank you, I appreciate it,” Melina replied as she exited the car.
In front of her was an antique mansion, complete with pavilions, small bridges, and a lotus pond. The view was picturesque, like something out of a painting.
It seemed no one was around as Melina stepped inside.
Since this was a private banquet, most guests were familiar with the location and didn’t need formal greetings. However, it was Melina’s first time here, and she wasn’t
with Andrew.
After wandering around for a while, she realized she was lost.
The mansion was enormous. Her high heels which she was not used to, while beautiful, were starting to hurt after walking a few more steps.
Melina paused to rest for a moment before deciding to try walking in another direction.
As she turned, a frail voice called from behind, “Ms. Crawford.”
Melina frowned. It was Linda again. Why did it feel like Linda just wouldn’t go away?
After turning around, Melina saw both Andrew and Linda approaching her together. Wasn’t Linda supposed to be at the hospital?
Linda feigned innocence while standing beside Andrew and said softly, “Ms. Crawford, I took some medicine, and I’m feeling much better, so I didn’t go to the hospital. Let’s head in together. It’s been ages since I last saw Mr. Wentworth Senior.”
Linda may have looked composed, but her mind was anything but. She was teetering on the edge. Andrew had warned her because Wallace had gifted Melina a dress worth millions.
Panic had gripped Linda. It was like her place was slowly being taken over.
No, she couldn’t let that happen. She had sacrificed so much, even turning herself into this fragile figure, to earn Andrew’s special attention. She couldn’t let anyone replace her.
However, Melina didn’t care what Linda was thinking. She had no intention of dealing with her.
Melina spotted some people not far away, likely Wallace and his group, who were heading in their direction. She was about to walk toward them when suddenly, Linda grabbed her arm.
“Ms. Crawford, let’s go in together,” Linda insisted.
Melina’s brow furrowed. “Why would we go in together? And we’re not close, so please don’t touch me.”
Linda’s face was immediately filled with hurt. “Ms. Crawford, is your hostility because of Andrew?”
Linda clung tightly to Melina’s arm, and her long nails dug painfully into Melina’s skin. Melina shoved her away in disgust after feeling the sharp sting.
But what Melina saw next was Linda’s expression had twisted into a wild smile. Then, she deliberately leaned back, her body falling toward the pond behind her.
