Love at the Door -
Chapter 68
Chapter 68
Melina’s quiet resilience and vitality seemed to suggest that she could break through
all the darkness in the world.
Toby, who was standing close to Melina, found himself frozen and mesmerized by the sight before him.
Melina glanced at Andrew on the shore, then at Toby in the water. She tilted her head slightly and flashed a cute, playful smile at him. “Dr. Ludwig, thank you for
coming to save me.”
Toby snapped back to reality. “It’s nothing, as long as you’re okay.”
Though the pond’s edge wasn’t very high, Melina’s dress made it difficult for her to climb out.
Toby instinctively reached out to support her after noticing her struggle. His hand rested on her waist and gently lifted her up.
The softness beneath his hand made him suddenly aware of what he was doing, and his expression shifted. What was he doing right in front of Andrew?
Then, Melina’s light and crisp voice broke through again. “Thank you, Dr. Ludwig.”
Toby suddenly felt grateful he had jumped in. Without him, Melina would’ve been in
such a pitiful situation.
Andrew’s face remained cold and unreadable from the shore as he watched, giving no clue as to what he was thinking.
Wallace hurried over once Melina was out of the water. Linda was about to speak weakly, but Wallace walked right past her and headed straight for Melina.
The expression on Linda’s face was on the verge of cracking. She knew Wallace wasn’t fond of her, but he had always treated her decently for Andrew’s sake. She had never been so blatantly ignored before.
Wallace had already taken off his jacket and draped it over Melina’s shoulders.
“Lina, are you alright? Are you cold? Did you get hurt anywhere? Don’t worry, I’m here,
Wallace reassured her.
Melina, who had been so composed and fearless, suddenly felt a wave of
vulnerability. She lowered her head and quietly said, “Mr. Wentworth Senior, I’m not used to wearing high heels.”

“Alright, don’t wear them anymore. I’ll take you to change.” Wallace comforted her.
As Wallace continued to soothe her, Melina realized she might still have people she could call family. Her teacher had treated her like a daughter, and now Wallace treated her with the same care.
As for Andrew, she had planned to ask him a few things. But now, there was no point in it. She wasn’t heartbroken but just a little sad.
Andrew seemed to sense something. He glanced at Melina, but she didn’t even look his way. She hadn’t noticed the red mark on his face from Wallace’s slap either.
Rather, it was Wallace who looked back at Andrew with his eyes filled with disappointment.
Wallace pulled Melina to go inside and said softly, “Don’t worry, Lina. Today I’m going to make an announcement. You are the only Mrs. Wentworth I recognize. No one will take that from you.”
Melina shook her head. “That’s not necessary, Mr. Wentworth Senior. I don’t want it to be public. I feel like I’ve let you down by not managing to get along with Andrew.‘”
Wallace’s heart ached. From the moment he started supporting Melina, they exchanged letters, and he grew fond of her. To him, she was like a beloved granddaughter.
In a family as large and influential as the Wentworth family, he could easily replace any woman for Andrew, but he had insisted on Melina.
And now, seeing how Melina had been mistreated, Wallace felt deep regret for pushing this marriage. He felt regret for hurting Melina in order to save Andrew.
Wallace patted her shoulder, “It’s alright, Linda. You’ve done well. I didn’t blame your for this.”
Melina nodded.
Meanwhile, Vincent nudged Toby and brought him back to reality.
Toby called out, “Mr. Wentworth Senior, I’ll take her to get changed. I’ll have Sarah bring some clothes for Melina to wear.”
Wallace was in a bad mood and directly refused his offer. “No need for it. You may handle the others.” It was clear that Wallace wasn’t willing to let anyone else take care of Melina now.
Wallace led Melina away, leaving Toby to escort Andrew and Linda to change.
Rojaddeunt
Linda, who was drenched and shivering slightly, tried to explain pitifully, “Andrew, it’s all my fault. If I weren’t so weak, you wouldn’t have had to focus on me. You could’ve saved Ms. Crawford too.”
Andrew said nothing, and no one responded to Linda.
She looked ahead at Melina, who was protected by Wallace, and felt disoriented.
Linda won this test as Andrew saved her first, but she couldn’t shake the overwhelming sense of defeat.
