Love at the Door -
Chapter 99
Chapter 99
This time, Toby’s gaze took on a serious light.
Andrew had just expressed discontentment over the way he’d addressed Melina. He never cared about the tone they took with Unda, no matter how intimate it sounded.
Thus, he asked Inquisitively, “Andrew, have you developed feelings for… Melina?” Andrew scoffed. “Do you think that’s possible? Unless there comes a time when I’m willing to offer my life up to someone else, I’ll never love anyone.”
Toby paused. He understood Andrew’s situation, of course. For Andrew to have faith. in love, he would need to be able to entrust his life to that person first, but was that. possible? Never!
Alas, as he recalled Melina’s innocent and naive personality, he also reme bered that it was he who taught Andrew the tricks to win a woman’s heart, and that made him feel like slapping himself.
Even if Melina was the only thing that allowed Andrew to sleep well at night, Andrew should’ve employed a friendlier method to achieve his goal. Melina shouldn’t have, been dragged into such schemes.
Meanwhile, Andrew had taken his top off, revealing his injured back. As Toby took in the ghastly sight of his wounds, he felt speechless. “Your wounds are inflamed. Pus has developed in some of them. Your previous recovery has been for nothing. It’s back to square one again. You’ll be in and out of a fever for the next few days until the inflammation subsides.”
Andrew had a nonchalant expression. Was it a big deal? He wasn’t going to die.
Toby disinfected the wounds before bandaging them up again. His looked a lot neater than Melina’s attempt. Once he was done, he called toward the door, “You can come in now, Melina.”
Not a sound was heard, and no one came in.
Puzzled, Toby walked over to the door and opened it, only to see no sight of Melina. He turned back around and said, “Andrew, I think she left.”
Andrew’s expression turned icy. Toby didn’t expect Melina to leave either.
“Why don’t you give her a call, Andrew?” he suggested tentatively.
That only made Andrew appear even gloomier. “I don’t have her number.”
Ever since he mocked her when she asked for his number, she never bothered to ask. again. He certainly wouldn’t deign to ask for a woman’s number either.
Toby was taken aback, but the dots connected for him. This explained why Andrew’s expression had been so cold when Melina dalled him. Andrew and Melina had been married for weeks, but they didn’t even have each other’s numbers. Well, that was to be expected of someone like Andrew…
Taking his phone out, Toby said, “I’ll call Melina and ask her where she is.”
Immediately, Toby got the feeling that Andrew might want to kill him. He wasn’t trying to brag about having Melina’s number! He just had something he needed her help with.
Either way, the atmosphere in the room turned chilly.
Just then, a clear voice rang out at the door. “What are you guys doing now? Has Andrew’s wounds been dressed yet? I bought dinner for you guys. Considering the time, I’m sure you’re hungry.”
Instantly, the room felt warm again.
Melina hadn’t left completely. She’d only gone off to get dinner.
After coming in, she placed the food down before walking over to Andrew. She instinctively reached out to check his forehead, but she retracted her hand before it made contact and asked, “Has your fever gone down?”
Andrew’s gaze dimmed. “Nope.”
Melina quickly looked over at Toby, who hastily explained, “Andrew’s wounds are inflamed, but it’s nothing serious. I’ve already tended to them. During the next few days, he will continue to have a fever on and off until the inflammation completely subsides, but he’ll be fine. You don’t have to worry about him.
“That being said, I don’t think medication would be the best option for a speedy recovery. I think he should be put on an IV drip.”
Hearing that, Andrew immediately felt like rejecting that suggestion. He wasn’t dying, so why did he need to go on an IV drip? He hated lying on the hospital bed with a needle stuck into his arm like a feeble person at the mercy of another.
However, Melina exhaled in relief. “I’m glad he’ll be fine. By the way, I gave him an anti
ammatory pill at noon today. Will it affect the IV drip?”
