Love Comes To Me
Chapter 1137: Absolutely not!

After getting changed, Edwina followed Edwards downstairs.

"It's my sister's birthday party today, so I'm sorry, can you please pretend that nothing has happened?"

Before going downstairs, Edwards made his request to Edwina.

Edwina looked at him and the corners of her mouth curled into a few sneers, "Mr. Edwards, you are very kind to your sister." Hearing the sarcasm in her words, Edwards smiled awkwardly and asked cautiously, "May I?"

Perhaps his sincerity impressed her, Edwina nodded, "Yes, but you must give me a satisfactory result in this matter."

"No problem." Edwards assured her.

Once downstairs, Edwina went to the manager who was in charge of the whole birthday party and asked for her leave.

How could she be in the mood to continue working after what had happened.

"What's wrong, why do you need to take time off?" The manager noticed that she had changed her clothes and couldn't help but wrinkle her eyebrows, "What's going on with you, where's your uniform?" Edwina was a bit tired and didn't want to say too much, she just said lightly, "It got dirty, it was Miss. Ainsley who lent me her clothes."

When the manager saw that she didn't look very well, he nodded, "All right. Go home early if you don't feel well and go to work on time tomorrow."

"Thank you, manager."

Edwina walked out, the whole road was deserted, only the streetlights were on, permeated with endless empty silence.

And behind her, the sound of bustling voices could be heard faintly coming from the Boone Family.

She looked around and sighed; this was a villa area and one had to walk a long way to get to the bus stop.

Had she known that something so terrible would happen, she should never have switched shifts with her colleagues.

Still, if she hadn't come, she wouldn't have seen Edgar.

Only the thought of Edgar made her feel a little better. At that moment, a car suddenly pulled up beside her. She turned her head and saw that it was Edwards.

"Miss. Edwina, I'll give you a lift back."

"No need." Edwina refused, she didn't want to get too involved with the Boone Family and would stay as far away as she could from now on.

"There's no bus in this part of town this late at night." Edwards opened the door and got off, patiently advising her, "Get on, or you'll have to walk until dawn to get home." Edwina frowned, Bonnie was home alone and she couldn't afford to be home too late.

So, she compromised and dutifully got into his car.

"Where is your house?" Edwards asked.

Edwina said the name of a place and turned her head the other way, making it obvious that she didn't want to talk to him.

Edwards smiled and didn't say anything else.

The car drove smoothly along the road, the lights along the road jumping on the windows, the interior of the car flickering in and out of light.

Edwards turned his head to look at the quiet Edwina and hesitated before asking, "Constance, that is, your sister, is she well?"

Edwina did not answer.

Edwards, fearing her misunderstanding, explained, "Constance is a friend of mine and I haven't seen her for a few years, so I thought I'd ask how she was doing." "You're a friend of hers?" Edwina asked instead of answering.

"Yeah, I'm her ... friend."

At the word "friend", Edwards' grip on the steering wheel tightened involuntarily and there was a hint of unreadable emotion in his eyes.

Edwina was silent for a few seconds before she said, "You'll never see her again."

Edwards frowned, "What does that mean?"

"Literally."

Edwina looked out the window at the flickering landscape, a faint sadness lingering in her brow.

Her sister, long gone.

Edwards thought for a moment, still not understanding what she meant, "Where did your sister go, and how come you never saw her again? Or did she tell you that she didn't want to see me?" "She didn't want to see you?" Edwina turned her head and looked at him with amusement, "Mr. Edwards, you are too full of yourself. My sister hasn't even mentioned you, okay?"

"Did she?" Edwards laughed awkwardly, "Indeed I'm being presumptuous."

He curbed his smile and his expression turned a little cold.

Edwina looked at him for a second and said, "My sister is no longer with us." Shout...

The tyres scraped violently against the ground with an ear-splitting sound.

And Edwina in the car was startled for a moment, "Mr. Edwards, how are you ..."

She turned her head to look at Edwards, only to replace him looking at himself with a shocked expression.

"You, what did you just say?"

Edwina frowned, "I said my sister is no longer there."

"You're lying to me, aren't you?" Edwards' eyes reddened, he didn't believe what she was saying.

Edwina didn't understand why he was so agitated, she laughed bitterly, "Mr. Edwards, do I have to say such things to lie to you? My sister has indeed been gone for years." "Impossible, absolutely impossible!"

Edwards shook his head, he couldn't accept this, "How could Constance not be around anymore? She must have told you to lie to me like that, it must be."

Edwina stared at him, taking in his reaction, a hint of doubt grew in her mind, what was his relationship with his sister? Why did he react so badly when he heard that his sister was not there? "Mr. Edwards, are you really just my sister's friend?" Edwina asked tentatively.

"I ..." Edwards met her clear pupils and his words suddenly caught in his throat, then he took a deep breath, gathered all his emotions and tried to remain calm, "Yes, I am just her friend." He was as calm as if nothing had just happened.

Edwina laughed, "I thought you had something to do with my sister. But yeah, if there was any relationship, how could we not have seen each other again for so many years, and my sister never mentioned you before she died." Edwards clutched the steering wheel, his knuckles were white, as if he was trying hard to suppress something, he closed his eyes and asked in a deep voice, "What was she doing before ..."

He couldn't say the rest of the words.

"Sick, never got well, and didn't last through that winter before she left."

Edwina's voice couldn't help but choke up at the mention of the sad memory.

Edwards' throat moved and a sourness welled up in him.

Constance.

The girl who always had a smile on her Brimlad's face, no matter how difficult it was, had just left this world.

He hadn't even seen the last of her.

His heart felt like it was being clutched so hard that he couldn't breathe.

He clenched his teeth to keep Edwina from noticing his difference.

A faint sense of sadness hung over the car.

Edwina raised a hand to wipe the corners of her moist eyes and asked, "Mr. Edwards, can we go now?"

Edwards opened his eyes and took a deep breath, "Yes."

He started the car and it drove down the road again in the night.

After that, neither of them spoke again, and the car was a little depressingly quiet.

Edwina turned her head to look at Edwards, who was driving seriously. She didn't know if it was just her own fault, but she felt a faint sadness around him. Was he really just a friend of her sister's?
