Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1243: Even the Abyss
"What the hell do you want?"
Edwina shook off Edgar's hand with force, her eyes indisputably red when she was originally angry.
She turned her head sideways and blinked to keep the tears from running down her face.
It was clear that she had made up her mind to forget him, but why did he come back to her, to disturb her heart?
"Edwina, don't you cry." Edgar looked a bit at a loss.
He just wanted to talk to her.
His voice was gentle.
Edwina could no longer hold back the sourness in her heart and cried out, saying as she did so, "You're getting engaged, can you leave me alone? I really don't want to see you again." When he saw her crying, Edgar was distressed.
He stepped forward and took her into his arms, gently stroking her back with his big palm, and softly coaxed, "Don't cry, okay?"
"You let go of me!" Edwina was anxious and struggled desperately, "Edgar, don't you give me any more hope..."
"I'm sorry."
Edgar's force tightened, holding her tighter.
He knew she was aggravated, so he just held her quietly and didn't say anything.
At this hour, the mall had just opened, there were few customers, and it was a relatively quiet corner, so intermittent sobbing could be heard very clearly.
It took a long time for Edwina to calm down, her fingertips gripping his lapel, unable to let go.
She couldn't let go of his embrace.
Edgar's low voice rang in his ears.
"Edwina, I already told you the other night that I like you, it's not that I don't have feelings for you."
At those words, Edwina squeezed her palms tightly and whirled around to release them, pushing him away hard and staring at him with eyes red and swollen from crying, a bitter smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. "It's all too late, isn't it?"
And, really, she didn't dare to hope that her feelings would be reciprocated by him.
"It's not too late." Edgar took hold of her shoulders, his tone earnest and sincere, "I'll work everything out if you'll just trust me."
"It's not that I don't trust you."
Edwina pushed his hand away and turned around, saying softly, "It's that we're too different for each other to be right for each other." "Do you think I care about that?" Edgar frowned, "Do I look like one of those people who resents the rich and the poor in your eyes?"
"I didn't mean it like that." Edwina turned her head, her eyes a little sad, "Mr. Edgar, if you really like me, I'm touched. But... let's not see each other afterwards, I want you to be happy." "Edwina, do you know what you are saying?"
Edgar reached out to touch her, but she dodged it.
"I know." Edwina took a deep breath and continued, "You are the president of the Khan Group and need a wife who can help you in your career, and Miss. Elva is the best person for the job." "I ..."
Edgar tried to say that he didn't need one at all, but before he could finish his sentence, he was interrupted by Edwina.
"You don't need it, but your parents, the Khan family, do."
So she knew everything.
Edgar's heart ached for her even more.
"Edwina, believe it or not, I will not marry Elva."
At that, Edgar paused for a few seconds, "The person I like is you, and I'll make it clear to my parents, but I hope you won't turn me away."
Edwina's nostrils were sore, she had never wanted to reject him, but reality did not allow her any delusions.
Seeing that she was about to cry again, Edgar stepped forward, took her into his arms again and whispered in her ear, "Edwina, trust me, I will make this marriage work."
The smell of his fresh, clean scent filled her nostrils and tears slipped from her eyes as Edwina pressed her face against his chest, listening to the steady beat of his heart, and slowly closed her eyes. For once, she would let herself go.
Even if there was an abyss waiting for her, she would not hesitate to put her foot in it.
...
Edgar walked Edwina back to the restaurant, reached out and tied the strands of hair that fell on her cheeks behind her ears, his voice gentle, "I'll pick you up tonight." Edwina nodded, "Okay."
She watched him leave before Edwina turned around and walked into the restaurant.
As soon as he saw her enter, Alger rushed over and pulled her to the side.
"What's going on with you and that Edgar?"
If he hadn't seen Edgar's natural intimacy with his own eyes, Alger wouldn't have believed that a big CEO could be so gentle with Edwina.
Edwina bit her lip a little uncomfortably, "Just... that's what you saw."
"No." Alger looked around and saw that no one was looking at them before asking in a whisper, "Isn't he getting engaged to Princess Boone Family? What are you doing with him ..."
At the mention of the engagement, Edwina's face instantly turned a little worse, but explained, "That was something his parents decided, he didn't even say yes."
At that, Alger frowned, "So you're together?"
Edwina nodded, "Sort of."
Alger rolled his eyes, "Edwina, aren't you usually so smart? Why are you so stupid when it comes to relationships?"
Edwina ducked her head, not making a sound.
"You've seen the news about the marriage between the Khan family and Boone family, it's a national story that Edgar will marry Elva, so if you're with Edgar now, won't you be the mistress who ruined their relationship?" Just thinking about it made Alger's head hurt a little, and she rubbed her brow as she continued, "You really are so stupid!"
"I know." Edwina said nervously, "But he said he'd sort it out."
"And you believe him?" Alger suddenly realised that she was an emotional idiot who believed whatever men said.
Edwina tugged at her lips, "Well, I believe him."
"Oh my God!" Alger slapped his head and shook it helplessly, "I really don't know what to say about you. I thought you were having some kind of conflict, but I didn't think it was a relationship thing, if I had known, I never should have let you see him." Alger regretted it.
Instead of subjecting her to the scolding, she should have just lost her love.
"Don't worry." Edwina gave her a reassuring smile, "It's not as bad as you think."
"I hope it's not as bad as I think it is too." Alger sighed heavily, "But I don't think you'll take it well if the Boone Family replaces out about this."
They had all seen how brutal Elva could be, and if they knew their fiancé liked another woman, they would not take it lying down.
Edwina took a deep breath, "I had already thought of what would happen when I agreed to be with him."
"Weren't you afraid?" Alger asked suspiciously.
"Afraid." Edwina returned honestly.
"Afraid and you said yes?"
Edwina curled her lips in a smile, "I want this relationship more than I'm afraid."
At those words, Alger heaved another sigh and patted her shoulder, "Alright, I wish you luck."
