Love Comes To Me
Chapter 983: We don't know each other that well

In the evening, Edgar leaves work and rushes to a French restaurant for an appointment.

Earlene mentioned that she wanted the heads of the three companies to meet and talk about business matters. And the time, set for tonight.

Edgar had a long day of work and realized it was getting late when he was done.

"Sorry, sorry I'm late." Edgar kept apologising in embarrassment.

Looking at his nervousness, he is not at all like a group president.

"It's fine, I've only just arrived too." Earlene guffawed and glanced behind Edgar again, "Didn't Mr Hector come with you?" "He's gone back to City J."

Edgar replied as he sat down, not noticing the flash of surprise and loss in Earlene's eyes when she heard the answer. "It's on me today, so order what you like." Edgar looked at her with a gentle, light smile.

Earlene tugged at the corner of her mouth, then looked down at the menu.

In fact, she didn't even look in, her mind was already in turmoil.

I was expecting Hector to come, but instead he went back to City J.

Seeing that she seemed a little distracted, Edgar inquired with concern, "Miss Earlene, have you thought about it?"

His voice brought Earlene's wandering thoughts back and she pointed out a few random things in a slight panic, "I'll take these three."

Edgar glanced at it and frowned slightly, "But all three are soups and after-dinner desserts, don't you order the main course?"

Earlene froze, then reacted and quickly said, "Sorry, I misread it."

Edgar didn't think much of it and smiled, "You'll see then, there's no rush."

Finally it was Edgar who did the main ordering.

While waiting for the food to be served, Edgar tried to replace something to talk to Earlene about.

"I heard you were working in a research institute abroad before, what made you want to come back and help your brother?" Edgar asked. "The fat is not on the table." Earlene replied casually.

Edgar was drinking water and almost choked when he heard this answer.

He hurriedly wiped his mouth and looked at her with amusement, "What kind of person describes themselves that way."

She's a pretty girl.

Earlene gave a faint smile, "Just the truth."

"And do you have confidence in our future together?" Edgar looked at her expectantly.

"Yes, of course."

To be more precise, she has faith in Hector, in the Rogers Group.

The smile on Edgar's face deepened a few notches at the affirmative answer, "I'm glad to hear that."

Earlene tugged at the corners of her mouth and didn't say anything.

A silence fell over the two men.

Edgar glanced up at Earlene, his mind whirling with ideas of what to talk to her about.

Suddenly, in a flash of light, he asked, "You and my cousin are friends, aren't you?"

Earlene raised an eyebrow, "Yeah, what's wrong?"

"Nothing, just heard my cousin mention you and say that you saved her life."

"That's an understatement. It's just a show of hands."

She looked a little disinterested, and Edgar wondered if she didn't like talking to herself.

Luckily, the waiter brought the dishes over in time to dispel the little awkwardness in the air.

For some time afterwards, both ate quietly, with no one speaking, so quiet that you could hear the whispered conversations at neighbouring tables.

Edgar put down the knife and fork in his hand and wiped his mouth before raising his eyes, which fell across to Earlene, who was eating elegantly, and his eyes softened involuntarily. Aware of his gaze, Earlene flicked her eyes up to meet his.

Edgar coughed lightly and averted his eyes, looking uncomfortable as he asked, "How does this restaurant taste?"

Earlene wiped her mouth as she nodded her head.

Edgar saw that she had quite a lot left, "Then you eat more."

"No." Earlene was already a small eater, and with Hector not coming, she really didn't have much of an appetite.

"Eating so little, no wonder you're so skinny. It's actually not good for a girl to be too skinny."

Hearing this, Earlene's brow furrowed, "Mr Edgar, we don't seem to know each other that well."

Edgar froze, and it was only now that he noticed that her face was clearly a little upset.

Edgar realised he had said the wrong thing and hastily explained, "Sorry, I meant ..."

The words suddenly caught in my throat.

Was he going to say that he was sorry she was so thin and wished she had eaten more?

Earlene got up, "I think we'll talk another time another day."

"Miss Earlene," Edgar followed, standing up and looking at her at a loss for words.

"I did ask you and Mr Hector out today, but Mr Hector didn't come and it didn't seem right for the two of us to talk on our own."

Earlene picked up her handbag and continued, "Let's talk when Mr Hector has time."

With that, she stomped away quickly on her high heels.

Edgar watched her leave, then sat back in frustration, helplessly laughing.

He seems to have screwed it up.

...

It was after 9pm when Hector and Eloise returned to the Rogers family.

They hadn't told the family they were coming back and the Rogers family froze when they saw them enter.

"How did you ... guys get back without saying anything?" Hector's mother was the first to respond.

Eloise laughed and joked, "Mum, do you not want us to come back?"

"What?" Hector's mother froze, then reacted, fearing she might misunderstand, and hurriedly explained, "That's not what I meant, I was just so surprised." "Mum, I know, I was just joking with you."

Hector's mother sighed with relief, "You boy, I thought you were angry."

"No." Eloise handed the bags to the butler and looked around, "Are Solomon and Sweety asleep?"

"Sister-in-law, they're all asleep." Rupert said back.

When he finished, he looked at his brother and grunted somewhat unpleasantly, "Brother, you still know to come back, I thought you were going to live in Kyoto for a long time."

It had been a long time since his brother had handed over the Rogers Group to him and he hadn't really taken a holiday for a long time, especially since he was spending less and less time with his wife these days. He was really too aggravated.

"Your brother does have plans for that." Eloise smiled a particularly sincere smile, but the sly twinkle in her eyes gave away the real smallness of her mind.

"Really?" Rupert really believed it, "Brother, you can't go so far. You have a wife, and I have a wife, so take pity on me."

Eloise couldn't help but laugh at his aggravated look.

Seeing her laughing so happily, Rupert realised he had fallen for it and the corner of his mouth twitched, "Sister-in-law, you're so boring."

Eloise coughed lightly to stifle a laugh, "I haven't seen you for too long and I'm joking with you."

"It's not funny."

Rupert tugged at the corners of his mouth with a leathery grin.
