Love’s Little Miracles By Chloe Wallis -
Chapter 20
Chapter 20
As the crowd stepped forward to take a look, they indeed saw the same sparkles as the shining powder under Peter’s shoe.
“It is truly the same!”
Undoubtedly, Peter was the one who stole the snake.
Faced with concrete evidence and the presence of the police, the man finally could not hold it in anymore. He kneeled on the ground and confessed his crimes. “I’m the one who released the snake. I’m sorry, Mrs. Ziegler. I know I was wrong! Please
spare me…”
“When have we, the Zieglers, ever mistreated you? Why would you do such a cruel thing? Why do you want to harm Quintin? Catherine questioned in rage.
“I…”
Peter raised his head with tears in his eyes, his gaze slightly helpless.
A
Everyone was staring at him, so he could only explain his reason. “Because Mr. Quintin has lectured me previously, and I held a grudge against him. That’s why I did such a reckless thing…”
The Zieglers could vaguely recall the incident at the mention of it. A few months ago, Peter had tried to take advantage of a female housekeeper, and that was caught by Quintin
Peter ended up taking the reproach from Quintin. If it were not for Catherine and Michael defending the servant, Quintin would have driven Peter out of the Ziegler residence long ago.
As Peter had worked for the Ziegler family for years, the Zieglers had decided to give him another chance. Yet, not only did he not change his ways, but he had even found an opportunity to take revenge on his employer.
“My goodness, Peter. I truly didn’t think you’d be so ungrateful. You’d rather hold a grudge against such a trivial matter. 1 can’t believe I trusted you!”
Now that things had come to that, Catherine regretted forgiving him previously. She said, “Since it’s your fault, you should bear all the consequences. Take him away, Officer.”
The police officers went forward and picked Peter up. Tears poured from the latter’s eyes as he pleaded, “I’m sorry, Mrs. Ziegler! I’ve let the Ziegler family down. I’ll take responsibility for what I did, but please let my family off. They’re innocent!”
He uttered the last line with a raised voice as if he was afraid that no one would hear him.
After the police took the man away, Catherine heaved a deep sigh and proclaimed to the crowd, “It’s all thanks to Caroline’s quick–wittedness today. Otherwise, the culprit would’ve continued his heinous actions. Caroline has done a great service for the Zieglers, so we should thank her!”
Catherine grew fonder and fonder of Caroline from the bottom of her heart.
Meanwhile, everyone also saw the woman in a different light.
“You’re welcome, Mrs. Ziegler. It’s part of my job,” Caroline responded calmly.
“Part of her job? She doesn’t think of herself as an outsider!” thought Carmen and Benjamin as they became more cautious.
of her.
They would not mind Quintin marrying an average woman. Yet, it had to be a capable person like Caroline, of all people. It would be harder for them to make any moves in the future.
After everything was solved, Catherine dispersed the crowd, and Caroline returned to Tanglevine Residence, accompanied by Jennifer.
Leon was sitting at the entrance, waiting for Caroline. When he saw her return, he rushed toward her and hugged her leg.
Caroline picked her son up and pinched his nose affectionately. “Are you hungry, Leo?”
The boy shook his head and stared fixedly at her with his little arms around her neck.
Jennifer was shocked to see her nephew being so affectionate with Caroline. “Am I hallucinating? What’s wrong with our little devil? I can’t believe he hugged you on his own accord.”
Although Jennifer and Leon had a pretty good relationship, the little fellow had never approached her willingly, let alone
embraced her.
Jennifer was genuinely curious about who Caroline was. Not only could she handle Quintin, but she had also tamed Leon.
“Leo’s just a kid. Isn’t it normal for him to ask for hugs?” Caroline chuckled.
“No! That’s absolutely abnormal!” Jennifer stretched out her arms tentatively. “Come here, Leo. Can I hug you, too Leon instantly slapped his aunt’s hands away and buried his little face into Catherine’s neck, refusing to spare Jennifer a

“What the heck? I’m going to be depressed! Hey, I’m your biological aunt! When you were still a baby, I was the one who changed your diapers and raised you. How dare you treat me sa ruthlessly?”
Jennifer was at a loss for words. “Did he forget about me, his aunt, after gaining a new ‘mother? How typicalf” she thought.
After getting back to Tanglevine Residence, Jennifer blabbered to Quintin about the incident in the main manor and constantly complimented Caroline at the same time.
“It’s merely a piece of cake.”
Quintin thought that Caroline was simply playing some tricks, which meant that she was an incredibly cunning woman.
“How could you say that? She was practically Sherlock Holmes reborn! You didn’t even witness how intelligent she was. All in all, I’m pleased with this sister–in–law, and so is Grandma. It’d be best for you to recover quickly and fight for her to give Leo a family.”
Quintin was rendered speechless.
“Caroline has even brainwashed my sister! Will there be anyone trustworthy left by my side if this continues?” he wondered.
“Hey, don’t you think it’s strange? Even Leo likes her a lot, and he’s particularly close to her. What’s going on? They have only known each other for two days. What magic does that woman have?” Jennifer asked.
Quintin was annoyed at her mumbles, so he kicked her out. “You’re so noisy. Go away! I want to rest.”
“Fine, fine, fine. I’ll go.”
After Jennifer left, Caroline entered his room, and Quintin called out in annoyance, “Didn’t I ask you to leave? What are you still doing here?”
“Why are you so worked up?”
Caroline approached him to observe his mood and noticed that he had a dark expression. She deliberately asked, “What’s wrong? Is it your andropause? Or did your sister feed you dynamites?”
The man’s mood worsened at her teasing. “Don’t think you can do whatever you want after bribing them all!”
“Don’t think I’d marry you just because you’ve convinced my grandma, sister, and Leo. In your dreams!” This was what he actually wanted to say.
“Could you please shed some light on what I’ve done, hmm?” Caroline purred in a clear and alluring voice as she went to his side.
Watching him lose his temper, she purposefully taunted, “With your situation right now, what can you do even if I did whatever I wanted with you?”
She suddenly had the urge to prank him. Hence, she held out a hand and felt his chest. “What can you do for me even if t took advantage of you?”
Quintin felt uncomfortable as she caressed him. He pushed her away and shouted, “You, shameless woman! I’ll finish you off if you dare touch me again!”
Caroline could not contain her laughter. “I didn’t expect the CEO of Quinton Corporation to be so innocent. Have you never been touched by a woman, hmm?”
“Get lost, you frivolous woman!” Quintin was raging, but he had amused her instead.
To her, he behaved like a wife who had been mistreated, which was quite adorable.
She stopped teasing and went back to the subject. “All right, I’ll stop joking around with you. Your sister has spoken to you about it, hasn’t she? We caught the culprit who released the snake, and it’s a housekeeper working for your family named
Peter.”
“Do you think Peter is truly the culprit?” he asked in return.
“He stole the snake and admitted that he had released it. His motives also corresponded with the case. It’s got to be him!”
“Why would he go after my life just because I scolded him? Moreover, this happened a long time ago. Why did he only choose to take action now? Don’t you think his reasoning is too weak?” elaborated the man.
“I, too, think he’s not the true mastermind. Someone must have given him orders,” she agreed.
Quintin fell silent while Caroline contemplated. “If Peter was working for someone, who could be the real culprit?” she asked thetorically.
