Love’s Little Miracles By Chloe Wallis -
Chapter 33
Chapter 33
“I have checked the two bottles of the medicine Dr. Cook has prescribed for you. Though it looks like it will help your bones. to recover, it’s not suitable for the current symptoms you are experiencing.”
“Elaborate on it.”
The medicine he prescribed contains large quantities of quinidine and tubocurarine. Do you know what quinidine is? It is a medicine used to treat heart disease. Generally, it’s used for the treatment of arrhythmia, abnormally fast heart rate, and other related symptoms.”
Caroline added, “But, tubocurarine is a neuromuscular blocker that prevents muscle atrophy and weakness. The drug itself is helpful in treating paralysis, but the problem is that you are not paralyzed, so this drug is not suitable for you.”
Quintin questioned, “You mean Dr. Cook has given me the wrong prescription? How could a sophisticated doctor like him. make a mistake?”
“You’re getting to the point! Dr. Cook is a personal physician of the Ziegler family, and the Cook family has been practicing medicine for generations. Given Dr. Cook’s qualifications, would he prescribe the wrong medicine?” Caroline paused for at moment and went on, “If the answer is no, there’s only one possibility!”
“What’s the possibility?”
“He deliberately made a mistake in the prescription to harm you!”
“Does Edward want some trouble? How could he have the guts to hurt me?” Quintin fumed.
“I don’t know about that, and maybe you’ll have to look into it yourself when you’re fully recovered. I just did you a favor to check the medicine he prescribed. Quinidine is the crux. The medication isn’t supposed to contain quinidine, but it does. Tubocurarine can prevent muscle weakness, but quinidine can aggravate it by its side effects. If those two are mixed, they will have the opposite effect. Even a normal person may become paralyzed because of it. It could even poison a person after taking them for a long time!”
With that, Quintin’s brow deeply furrowed as he thought about what Caroline had just said.
“The medication Edward prescribed for me is really counter–productive drugs that will actually harm me?” he pondered.
Nonetheless, Edward was the personal physician of the Ziegler family. His father was also the personal physician of the Ziegler family, and they had served them for generations. The Cook family are all people of good character and purity. He couldn’t understand why Edward would do that.
Before his accident, Quintin was the head of the family, and everyone was in awe of him. No one would dare to harm him.
However, he became paralyzed and blind because of a car accident. He wondered if that was the reason those despicable people had the nerve to hurt him.
“Do they really think I’m useless now?” he yelled inwardly.
The biggest problem now was that he couldn’t see things. It was not easy to deal with many things.
“How do I know if Caroline is telling the truth instead of playing a trick to hurt me?” he thought again.
“If you said there’s something wrong with the medicine Dr. Cook had prescribed, then what kind of medicine are you giving
me?”
“As I said just now, it is a medicine that boosts blood circulation and removes blood stasis. Blood clots in your brain. compress nerves. This medicine will serve as a cure that fuels the recovery of your eyes and limbs,” Caroline explained. “Why would I trust you? What if those drugs you provide are the real killer?” Quintin asked. ”
Caroline suddenly lowered her head, inched closer to his face, and uttered, “If I wanted you dead, why would I wait until today? You’d be dead a million times already! You don’t have to take this medicine if you, Quintin, are afraid of me and worried that may hurt you.”
Caroline straightened her body and was about to leave, but Quintin suddenly grabbed her wrist.
Although he could not see, his senses gave him the direction to hold her steadily. “You think I really care about death? Give me the medicine!”
“How could I be scared of that?” he snorted inwardly.
Caroline poured the pill into the palm of his hand and offered him water. Quintin’s wide palm wrapped hers as he reached for the cup.
Caroline, who was holding the handle of the cup, froze for a moment. She wanted to retract her hands subconsciously, but the man grabbed her hand while gripping his drink.
He only let go of her hand after drinking the water.
When Caroline walked outside with the cup, Quintin shouted, “I’m hungry!”
Chapter 33
“When I asked you just now, didn’t you say you didn’t want to eat?”
“It depends! Now, I want to eat!” Quintin was angry with his father, but when he gave it a thought, he realized that he didn’t have to torture his own body. He would recover fast by eating and drinking well. Then, he could finally do anything he wanted after that.
“Okay. I’ll go get you something. You just have to wait!”
When he heard footsteps going out, Quintin knew that she had actually gone to help him prepare a meal.
He had to admit the fact that despite her temper, the woman was a good cook.
“Hey, son. Are you asleep?”
Leon was still awake. He would go to sleep only when his mother slumbered. He was waiting for her. When he heard his father ask him, he tapped the book with his hand two times. “Bang! Bang!”
Two meant no.
“Now you saw it, right? That woman is fierce. She abuses me because I can’t see anything. Tell me the truth. Did she abuse you in private?”
“Bang! Bang!”
Leon thought that his father deserved it for mistreating his mother.
“Mommy must be away for so long because of Daddy’s bad temper!” he thought.
“Leo, remember, whatever she says to you, don’t forget that she’s not your mommy. Don’t get the wrong mom. If she takes you out alone, don’t go with her, or she’ll abduct you! Remember that!”
Leon couldn’t help but roll his eyes at his father’s remarks. “Stupid Daddy, I didn’t make a mistake. She is my biological mommy,” he snorted inwardly.
“Mommy’s back. Mommy treats me the best!” he exclaimed inwardly.
Even if his mother didn’t abduct him, he would still choose to run away with her out of his free will!
Soon, footsteps were approaching, and Caroline returned with a tray. Quintin could smell something delicious even before she arrived.
The tempting fragrance made him gulp.
Caroline went to him and picked him up again. She made him sit straight and pulled over a small table as she began tending
to his meal.
“It’s pasta! Why does it smell so good? What did you put in it?” Quintin tasted the pasta. It was chewy, and the fragrance lingered in his mouth. He didn’t know the ingredients it contained.
“I think you are not picky because you’re famished. Even a simple pasta is up your alley.” Caroline merely cooked the pasta. with broth and coupled it with thin slices of chicken and vegetables before topping it with some green onions and garlic. It was nothing special.
Quintin was hungry. He hadn’t had lunch since Caroline left that morning. He was also very picky about his food and wouldn’t eat anything someone else made for him.
It took him so long to have his dinner now. Naturally, that bowl of pasta tasted like heaven to him.
Caroline finished feeding him a huge bowl of pasta. Then, he picked up the bowl and licked the dish clean.
He slurped his lips after drinking it and felt terrified that he would never be able to eat such delicious pasta again.
After a while, Caroline came to take care of him again. She helped him brush his teeth and clean up his body. She took good. care of him and did not say anything harsh to him. Quintin felt as though he was the king at that moment.
After taking care of the grown–up and the kid, Caroline went to wash herself up before coming back and laying next to her son to tell him stories.
Quintin was listening to her while she was telling a story. It was as if he wasn’t listening to the story but only to her voice. When he heard her voice, he couldn’t help but wonder that there was such a beautiful voice in the world. It sounded like a valley warbler that could stir up people’s hearts.
He was afraid that he would not be able to fall asleep if he continued listening to her voice.
When her son fell asleep, Caroline packed his book and removed a small chip from the pendant around Leon’s neck. No one knew that the pendant she put around her son’s neck contained a tiny tape recorder, so she would know what happened to him all day.
She put the chip into a professional card reader and put on a headset. Caroline will soon be able to hear the sound inside.
Chapter 33
She wanted to know what her son had gone through the whole day in kindergarten.
