Lusting For Ralph -
Chapter 35
"Come, why don't we order another food." His mom ushered her to the mirror and get Kendra some tissues. "Brian...tell the waiter to move us to another table, a more private one and why don't you order for her this time?"
Brian nodded to his mom and kissed Kendra on her temple just before he leaves her with her mom.
"I can see that my son loves you very much."
"I...we're not an actual couple..." Kendra looked at his mom, she couldn't start her baby's life with secrets. She needs his mom to know about their relationship, she didn't want to be judged once his family knows about the truth. "Kendra, love grows. And I see the moment you look at your phone reading his text message." His mom tucked in her loose strands back behind her ear.
Kendra didn't believe her luck when his mom hugged her and welcomed her into their family.
Though her new best friend Madison was thinking the opposite when her mom came home. "Madison, come sit with me..."
Being a single mom after her divorce didn't affect her the least, she remains distant from her only child.
"So I met Ralph's mom today just after I had a business lunch with a client..."
Madison cursed on the inside, she knows where the conversation is going already.
"And she and I had a long talk, but basically she wants you to let go of Ralph, romantically. Look, Maddie...I can't give you any insights on your love life looking at my own failed marriage."
The marriage that happened because of her. Madison thought sarcastically.
"I know we haven't been close, but I do care about you. And I'm not sure you can handle the Richardson. We are not on the same playing field as they are. I know you're close with their boys, but you should stop dreaming of getting a tap into their wealth. We can seek our own."
Madison couldn't believe her words. Her own mother saying that she wanted him for his money, thinking that she wanted to climb the social ladder like a true gold-digging bitch.
"I'm pregnant, with Ralph's baby. I haven't told him, that's why I came early for the holiday. I need to think."
Her mom looked at her in disbelief.
"What? are you seriously shocked that I turned out just to be like you?" Madison was in rage listening to her mom talking about her like she's a stupid whore.
And that was when she slapped her, then it was her turn to look at her mom in surprise.
"I'm guessing my holiday is over," Madison stomped her feet in anger and headed back to her room to pack up her stuff without even knowing her destination.
"Come, why don't we order another food." His mom ushered her to the mirror and get Kendra some tissues.
It was getting late, but she knew she couldn't stay a minute longer under the same roof as her mom's.
And her mom didn't stop her only daughter from leaving her house late at night, as she was still feeling disappointed at Madison.
That night the pregnant young woman decided to make the five-hour drive to her dad's. She felt confident knowing that her mom hasn't been in contact with her dad, not since their divorce.
"Hi baby," Ralph's voice was calming her down.
She was pulling over to the side of the road to take his call, not wanting him to hear her surrounding. She was lying, telling him that she was at her mom's in bed and was sleepy already.
Ralph sounded different, but Madison has her issues to deal with so she just let it go, and the same feelings were passing through Ralph. He noticed that there was something different in her voice. But she was saying that she was fine when he asked, so he decided to let it go.
They talk for a couple of more minutes before Madison ended the call telling him that she was sleepy already. While in reality, she was feeling the eerie vibe from her surrounding area.
Shani had warned her about the in-depth feel, though the amulet protects her she could still sense them because the baby was giving her the once closed sixth sense ability.
Madison put the car in gear and exhale when she managed to leave the wooded area behind, and her surrounding felt lighter once again.
She felt sleepy when she decided to make a stop at the first diner she encountered. The coffee was bad and the food was worse, so it didn't take her long before she was back on the road. Looking at her GPS it was another two hours of dark roads before she would reach her dad's suburb town.
But she wasn't far from the diner when she almost ran over a deer, her car swerved and she almost hit a tree. She was fine, the car was fine, but the almost incident had shocked her eyes awake. "F**k!" she cursed and swiftly turned switch the engine back on and put the car in gear.
It took her less hand two hours to reach her dad's, but she didn't believe her eyes when she saw him getting out of a car then move to the passenger seat and a woman was quick to kiss her dad. The couple continues kissing until Madie lost sight of them behind her dad's front door.
"Damn!" she cursed knowing that she couldn't stay at her dad's, the awkwardness would be too great and she surely doesn't want to deal with the fakeness of new acquaintances.
I should've called first...stupid! she thought when she turns the car around and headed to the nearest gas station.
Madison was thinking of staying in a motel that she passed earlier, just to sleep and then to think about what she was going to do with her holiday and how to avoid Ralph since she was not ready for him.
Not yet.
Morning came too soon, and she was sleeping it off until the sun hits her in the eyes and she noticed the sleazy motel she was resting in. She washed her face then called her new best friend Kendra. "...so, yeah...I need a place for the holidays. I was thinking can I hide out at yours?" Madison asked while sitting on the edge of the bed, wanting to get out of there soonest.
"Aww Madie, you should really talk it out with him, I know for sure that he loves you very much. But of course, you can stay at mine. Brian insisted that I move in with him." Kendra let out a nervous laugh.
Madison congratulated her, she was glad that Kendra was replaceing her happiness with Brian. And though she still hated him, but she was glad that he was taking responsibility.
It somehow showed her that people can change. Some of them.
"...though the lease would be over next week and I wasn't going to extend the rent...because of my parent, you know...they cut me off, including their financial support."
Madison sighed at the news. It was perfect, she knows Kendra's place. Modest, quiet, little apartment near campus. It was perfect for her holiday hideout.
"I'll take care of your lease, don't worry about it..."
Madison was not loaded as Ralph but having divorce parents means that she gets double of her allowance and her parents were successful enough that she has her savings. But it was mainly because she spends her money on books, not like other divorce brats who shops and travel a lot.
It was almost in the evening when she reached Kendra's apartment, and she looked at her watch knowing that Ralph would check in on her in a couple of more hours.
And like a scheduled appointment she was back to her friendly conversation with her boyfriend. And the couple both were lying telling everything was fine while in reality both were falling apart. Both busy with different issues on their mind.
