Over the past three years, their relationship had settled into a comfortable routine: she wanted something, and he always delivered. So, he was genuinely baffled by her recent spate of odd behaviors-it was more of a headache than any major project he'd ever tackled. "Wow, so you tried to patch things up with your lady, and she just gave you the cold shoulder?" Jaime was floored, almost jumping out of his seat. "That's crazy!"

To think Everett, the youngest hotshot at Bennett Corporation, who used to not give a hoot about his obedient wife, was now caught off guard by her. He always suspected the 'win back your wife at all costs' drama would unfold eventually, just not this soon! Everett's face was stormy. He insisted, "It's a buddy of mine, not me!"

But then it hit him-Jaime knew all his friends, so that excuse didn't hold much water. He added with a cool detachment, "It's Derick!"

Meanwhile, outside, Derick sneezed several times in quick succession.

Jaime asked, "...When did Derick get a girlfriend? How did I miss that?"

"I'm asking you the questions, not vice versa."

Everett poured himself another drink, trying to hide whatever was simmering inside, and sternly warned, "If you've got an answer, spit it out. If not, zip it. I'm not in the mood for your chatter."

Sensing he might be treading on thin ice, Jaime adjusted his glasses, stifling a chuckle as he broke it down.

"They say understanding a woman's heart is like replaceing a needle in a haystack, but usually, there are two likely scenarios in a case like this." He held up one finger, "First, maybe your... I mean, Derick's girlfriend feels overlooked, left out, so she's throwing a fit to get Derick to shower her with attention."

Everett tapped his fingers on his glass, lost in thought. Then, with a cryptic air, he asked, "And if we've done all that, and she's still not budging?"

"Then we've got the second

scenario, which is a real kicker!" Jaime exaggerated his expressions a bit, then got serious. "It means the home cat's lost interest and found a stray."

Everett was puzzled, "In plain English, please."

Jaime rolled his eyes. "Basically, she's fallen out of love."

Everett snapped upright, a vein twitching at his temple. Selena had been all about him; what could possibly make her heart stray?

There were no other guys in her life...

But then something clicked, and his expression shifted slightly, though he still declared confidently, "No way, she wouldn't fall out of love with me." Jaime couldn't help but ask, "Do you really believe that?"

Everett didn't reply, his mind racing back to all the recent conversations about Selena wanting a divorce, his eyes darkening with each memory.

Suddenly, he fished out a pack of cigarettes, expertly lighting one up. He took a deep drag, seemingly trying to calm the storm inside. Jaime's playful demeanor vanished, replaced by concern.

Everett rarely smoked due to past

heart issues, only doing so during necessary social events, and drinking was just as rare. This was the first time Jaime saw him

indulging in both in private.

Without thinking, Jaime reached out, grabbing Everett's wrist to stop him from puffing away, "Everett, are you really that serious about Selena?"

Just then, at the door, Callum, who was about to walk in, froze in his tracks.
