Monster Slayers MC Book 5 -
Chapter 1-Kaylee gets attacked!
Well another shift was finally over and I’m sitting in the hospital parking lot, waiting for my car to warm up. Thinking about Boomer and I’m sorely tempted to just go home to my house instead of the club house. I needed time to think but right now I’m just too tired. These 12 hours shifts were really taking a toll on me. I’ve only been back to work for a couple of months and while I’ve always liked my job, I thought that when I met the man of my dreams, that we would marry, make some babies. I would be able to quit and wouldn’t have to work these insane hours anymore.
Well, I have met the man I want to spend the rest of my life with but I’m beginning to think that maybe Boomer has changed his mind about making me his ole’ lady. The original plan was that I would only stay at the clubhouse until I had healed up from the beating that Greg gave me and then Boomer would move into my house with me but somewhere along the line, that didn’t happen and it makes me wonder if Boomer has changed his mind.
Since I’ve been at the clubhouse, we’ve had several of the brothers replace their ole’ ladies. The women have their cuts and are sporting very nice engagement rings, yet since I came “home” from the hospital, all talk about us living together in my house has basically stopped. He has not given me my cut nor has he proposed to me. He says he loves me and I know I love him but everyday that goes by I can’t help but wonder if maybe he’s changed his mind.
I don’t think I can deal with this. It’s going to tear my heart out if Boomer has changed his mind and is going to dump me. When Rooster and the others were out of town in Chicago, I understood that Boomer was trying to pick up the slack while they were gone but I’ve been living at the clubhouse for over 6, almost 7 months now.
Boomer even walked Nessa down the aisle! I thought for sure that was going to make him realize that he had not proposed to me yet but so far, nothing. So far, Claire and I are the only ones who have not received our rings and cuts yet. Claire hasn’t either but she just got here but Circuit has already let his intentions be known to the entire club and Dixie told me her cut has been ordered and she was pretty sure that Circuit had ordered her ring.
I don’t want to seem like I’m trying to push him into anything but at the same time, I want us to move forward. Right now, I feel like we are kind of stuck in dating mode, even though I can’t even think of when we’ve ever actually gone on a real date.
Heck, Doc had even proposed to Millie already and they had only gotten together because of me and Boomer! That thought really depressed the hell out of me.
I finally put my car in gear and reversed out of my parking space. I was totally lost in my thoughts as I drove out of the parking lot and started towards the clubhouse but as I got close to the turn off to my house, I decided to go home. I needed to take time for myself, to think things through. My heart felt sore and I wondered if Millie was still up. I needed to talk to her.
I pulled into my driveway and sat looking at my house. I had only been back here twice since I got out of the hospital, to get clothes to take to the clubhouse. I got out of my car and walked up to the house. I let myself in and then reset the alarm and made sure the door was locked. I know my way around this house very well so I didn’t even bother to flip on the lights as I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water out of the fridge. I left my purse on the kitchen counter as I walked back to my bedroom. I stripped down, dumping my nurse’s uniform in my hamper before I turned on the water in the shower. I adjusted the temperature and made sure I had shampoo and soap in there.
I climbed in and just let the water beat down on my head and shoulders, easing the tension between my shoulder blades. My mind was consumed with Boomer and trying to guess what was going on in his head. He had swept into my life so unexpectedly, literally swept me off my feet and made me believe that he truly cared about me. It had all happened so fast. Maybe too fast. Maybe that’s the problem. We both kind of jumped into this too fast and maybe now he is regretting it? I know if he asked me today to be more than his lady, I would say yes! I love him so much.
At first I didn’t realize that I had tears running down my face, but as I washed the shampoo out of my hair, I noticed my eyes felt puffy. I finished bathing and got out to dry off. I brushed my teeth and looked at myself in the mirror. I dried my hair, using my brush to keep it straight, hoping I wouldn’t need to use my straightener on it. I pulled on some lounge pants and an oversized comfy shirt and then padded back to the front of the house, not bothering to turn on the lights because I planned to just grab my purse and go back to the bedroom. I wanted to try and call Millie and hopefully talk to her before I went to bed.
I stepped up to my kitchen counter and put out my hand to reach for my purse when I heard something outside. It sounded like footsteps on the front porch. I froze for just a second then reached out and grabbed my purse. The only light on now was the light in my bedroom and I ran for it, my heart pumping like a racehorse’s after running a long way.
I closed my bedroom door and locked it and then shoved my dressing table chair under the handle. Then I leaned on the door with my ear to the wood, listening. I could hear something but I couldn’t make out what it was. I ran over to the bed and began searching for my phone but I was shaking so badly that I couldn’t replace it. I dumped my purse upside down and my phone fell out. I grabbed it and hit #1 on my speed dial, calling Boomer.
I stood at the foot of my bed, shaking like a leaf as the phone began to ring in my ear. Three rings and I thought it was going to go to voicemail when suddenly Boomer picked up.
“Hey, baby. Just getting off of work?” Boomer’s voice came across the speaker and I could hear loud music and lots of other people talking in the background.
“Boomer! I’m at my house and there’s someone outside.” I whispered as loudly as I dared.
“Hang on, baby. I can’t hear you.” He said and I could tell he was in the bar. A few seconds later, he said “I’m sorry. I was in the bar with Rooster and Hunter. Are you just getting off of work?”
“Boomer! I’m at my house and there’s someone outside.” I repeated as loudly as I dared. Just then, I heard a loud crash, like a window breaking and the alarm started going off. “Boomer! They are in the house! Please help me! I nearly screamed as I ran for my bathroom. I slammed the door and locked it and ran to the shower stall.
“I’m coming, baby. I’ll be there as fast as I can.” Boomer yelled into the phone and then I heard him yell into the bar. “Kaylee is under attack. I need back up!”
I could hear chairs screeching and loud footsteps running and a few seconds later, the loud roar of the bikes as they started up. “Hang on, baby. I’m coming! Lock yourself in the bedroom and replace something to protect yourself with. We’ll be there soon.” Then the phone went dead as he hung up. I sat in the shower stall, listening to what sounded like more than one person moving around in my house. I was shaking so bad and I felt sick to my stomach as I prayed that Boomer and the brothers would be here soon.
I opened a new text message to Boomer and typed “I love you with every ounce of my being.” but didn’t send it yet. I thought, if whoever is in my house gets to me before Boomer gets here and they take me or kill me, I want him to know that he was my last thought.
I bit down on my fist when I heard footsteps coming down the hall. I could hear men talking but I couldn’t make out what they were saying. “Oh Boomer. Please hurry! They are going to replace me soon.”
It was all I could do to not start screaming when I heard them start pounding on my bedroom door. They were trying to break in and that flimsy door wasn’t going to stop them for long. As the minutes slowly passed, it seemed like I had been hiding in here for hours. My muscles were already shaking and sore from being so tense.
About the same time I heard the bedroom door give, I heard the MC’s bikes. I could tell they were flying, trying to get to me. I heard someone shout “Let’s get out of here. Her old man is coming.” Then I heard footsteps running out of the house.
Half of the club must have come because the roar of their bikes was deafening, even for me inside the shower in my bathroom. I heard some yelling and then three shots were fired. I screamed “Boomer!” I tried to stand up but my legs were shaking so bad that I had to pull myself up using the side of the wall and by hanging on to the vanity for support. I just reached out to unlock the bathroom door when I heard more footsteps running through the house and then Boomer yelling “Kaylee! Where are you baby? Kaylee!”
I heard him stepping on the broken bedroom door and I managed to unlock the bathroom door and pull it open but my legs just wouldn’t work.
“Oh, thank God! Are you alright?” Boomer caught me as I fell into his arms. He scooped me up and held me close to his chest as he walked over to the bed and sat down with me on his lap as I held on tight to his cut. I was shaking so hard and my stomach felt like I was sitting on a washing machine that was on the spin cycle. All I could do was nod.
“What happened, Kaylee? What were you doing here? Why didn’t you come back to the clubhouse after work?” Boomer asked one question after another and all I could do was gulp air and cry and cling to him for dear life.
“Slow down, man. Give her a minute to calm down.” Rooster said as he stood watching us.
“I’m sorry. She just scared the shit out of me. Do we know who those guys are? Why were they here after her? She doesn’t have anything to do with any of the MC gangs. She’s not one of our rescues from any of them.” Boomer said, his mind going a mile a minute.
“Well, they are wearing Cobra cuts and tats. They must have figured out who she was and followed her home. Damn, I thought we were safe to let everyone go home but now I think I’d better let Eagle and Hunter know about this.” Rooster said and pulled out his phone as he left my bedroom.
Boomer just held me, rocking slowly back and forth as he ran his hand up and down my back as I slowly calmed down and stopped shaking so badly.
“Kaylee? Are you alright now?” He asked softly.
“Yeah. They didn’t hurt me. Just scared the piss out of me.” I whispered because that’s all I could manage right now.
“Why did you come here after work? Why not go back to the clubhouse?” He asked.
“I was tired and wanted some time to myself to just think.” I said in a small voice.
“Okay. What was it you wanted to think about?” Boomer asked.
“Us.” I whispered, afraid to look at him.
“What about us?” I could hear a waiver in his voice.
“I love you, Ben, with every ounce of my being but lately it seems like I’m going to end up being a “hang around” and I can’t do that.” I admitted, trying not to start crying again.
“Now, why would you think that? You are my world, Kaylee. I love you with every beat of my heart. You would never end up being a “hang around”. I’ve just been trying to give you the time to figure out if being part of our MC is going to be the life you want. I’m a biker for life, Kaylee and I want you to be my ole’ lady but I want you to be sure that that is what you want too.” Boomer reassured me.
“We just haven’t talked about it in months. Nessa and Annalisa met and married their men within just a couple of months of meeting, hell, you even walked Nessa down the aisle! We even got Doc and Millie together and they are engaged now!
We’ve been together for over 6 months now and I’ve just been waiting for you to ask! You haven’t so I’m going to tell you this just once! I want to be your ole’ lady! I want to wear not only your cut but your ring. I want a wedding and a honeymoon and to have babies with you. I thought you understood all of this already?” I said, getting mad.
When I looked up and saw him with a huge smile on his face, at first I wanted to smack him upside the head but when he grabbed my face and kissed me so hard, I just melted into his chest.
When he pulled back, he looked me dead in the eye and said “This is not the way I was planning to do this but if you are sure? Will you be my ole’ lady, Kaylee?”
“Yes!” I said as I threw my arms around his neck and kissed him with all of my love.
We heard several voices say “Yes!” from Rooster and the guys standing in the hall.
“Go home, guys. We are staying here tonight. I’ll see you in the morning.” Boomer said as he laid me down on the bed.
“I hate to burst your bubble dude, but you’ve got a busted front window.” Rooster said. “Plus, you’ll be safer back at the clubhouse. You know these bastards don’t travel in such small groups. There were only 3 in the house but there may be more around here.”
“He’s right, baby. We really need to go back to the clubhouse. Besides, that’s where I have your cut.” Boomer smiled at me.
“Okay.” I said, without argument. I gathered up the things from my purse and then my nurses’ uniform out of the hamper, which I shoved into a plastic bag. I could wash it at the clubhouse.
We closed my shutters over the broken window and I turned the alarm back on then realized that it had not gone off when they broke the window. I mentioned it to Boomer and he said he would have Circuit come over and check it out in the morning.
The guys managed to replace some wood to cover my front door in the garage and I followed the guys out to my car. The bodies of the Cobras had already been removed and nothing looked out of place. Boomer saw me in my car and told me, “Follow me. There will be guys behind you as well.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll be right behind you.” I said as I started my car and waited for him to get on his bike. I backed out of my driveway and waited for Boomer and Rooster to get in front of me and then I followed them back to the clubhouse.
When we pulled in, all of the old ladies were standing out front waiting for us. Dixie ran to Rooster but the rest of the women came to me.
“Are you alright? What happened?” Marley was the first to ask what they all wanted to know.
“I stopped at home and had just come out of the shower when I heard something on my front porch that sounded like someone walking around. I grabbed my phone, locked myself in my bedroom and called Boomer. I’m amazed at how fast they got to my house. I mean it seemed like it was taking a long time when I was terrified out of my skull and listening to the men breaking into my house but realistically, it couldn’t have been even 10 minutes when I heard the guys’ bikes coming down the street. I don’t even know who they were or what they wanted. I’m just glad that Boomer and the others got there before they got to me.” I told them as we walked into the house.
Rooster and the rest of the men walked into the club house and Rooster shouted “Church NOW!” All of the men followed him down the hall to the meeting room as the ladies all headed for the living room. All of the babies were upstairs asleep so at least the women could talk openly and freely.
