My Hunted Mate
Chapter Seventeen

Corinna

Olive and I had spent hours walking around the massive shoppingcentre until it was time for it to close, buying a whole closet of clothingthat I was in huge need of, throughout our shopping trip we'd becomeless awkward and once that happened, we realised her and I got alongextremely well.

Laughing at something Olive had said, I exit the car to replace Malakaistanding at the front door of his mansion, at first patiently waiting forme but when he sees Olive and I struggling to unload the endlessamounts of shopping bags from the trunk and backseat of the car, hecomes over to help us.

The three of us manage to get everything into the room that had beenassigned to me in one trip, which was surprising considering Olive and Iended up having to ask for help from two human boys who worked inone of the stores.

After Olive announcing we should hang out again, she gives me a hugand exits the room, leaving my mate and I alone together. Malakaistrides toward me, pulling me into his arms, he breathes me in then laysa soft kiss on my temple.

"I've missed you. " He mumbles.

"I was only gone a few hours. " I chuckle. " I've missed you too though.Pulling away from him, I start making trips back and forth from thecloset, unloading all of my new things while he sit on the bed watchingme. I bite my lip as I set a pair of jeans on one of the shelves.

" So I was thinking about something. "I call out to him.

Staying in the closet, I wait for him to rely but when I turn my head he'sleaning against the doorframe. He nods his head, urging me tocontinue, so I do. * Well you can't go out in the sun right? But what Iwas thinking was... Couldn't you ask a witch for help? Surely there'ssome kind of loophole.

He hums, suddenly looking awfully thoughtful. * Interesting. Whatmade you think of that? *

The truth to that question was that I'd been pondering it since he toldme that he'd never once been out in the sun before, I wanted to helphim, I'm sure I could help him, but then he'd learn about my gifts andI'm just not ready for that yet. I shrug my shoulders at him as aresponse.

"I'm sure there probably is a loophole, as you've called it, butunfortunately my darling I don't know any witches and witches tend todeeply dislike my kind, meaning it's unlikely I'll ever know one. " Heexplains. " Thank you though. "

" For what? " I question, my eyebrows furrowed.

" For being thoughtful enough to try think of a way for me to walk inthe sun. " He smiles, grabbing my hand and bringing it to his lips for amoment. " Now let me help you put all theses clothes away. "

The two of us silently fill the closet with everything I'd bought, mythoughts race as I attempt to figure out how I could help my mate. When the two of us are in bed, cuddling I finally decide to continue theconversation.

"You know... I know a witch or two. " I confess, lifting my head from hischest to look up at him

Confusion crosses his face. " What? How? *

"1 met a few over the years as a rogue. " I shrug.

"1 doubt they'd do you any favours like that though. " He raises hiseyebrows.

* They might. " I frown.

" Witches don't help anyone but their own Cori. * He chuckles a little. My frown deepens. * Well they helped me before. "

Maybe that's because you technically are one of their own.

"1 just don't see why they'd agree to give a wolf a way to allow hervampire beloved to walk during the daytime. * He shuts me down."I'm only trying to help you. " I grumble.

He sighs. " Yes, I know that my darling. I'm grateful for it, truly, but I justdon't want to get my hopes up for something that has never happenedand will never happen.

* And what if it does happen? What if I can replace a way to help make ithappen? " I argue.

" Then I will be extremely appreciative, but until then..." He trails off.Admittedly it was annoying me how negative he was being, sure hedidn't know that his mate was half witch, but I thought he might seem alittle happier about me trying to replace a solution for him. We laytogether, eventually Kai falls asleep, but I on the other hand can't shutmy brain off long enough to even keep my eyes closed.

Sliding out of bed quietly and carefully, I wander across the hall to Kai'sroom. I step inside his dark colour schemed room, shutting the doorgently behind me, trying my best to make little to no noise as I startrummaging through his things. A voice inside the back of my mind wasscreaming at me to stop, that I wouldn't be happy about this type ofthing being done to me but I shove that voice away.

Scanning along the book shelves, I realise I won't replace anything suitablefor what I'm thinking there, instead I go into his closet, flicking on thelight. I smile when I notice a whole shelf filled with boxes, pulling outone that has markings with 1920 on it. When my eyes fall on the stacksof photographs my smile widens, picking up one to look at it closer.Malakai is standing grinning at the camera, dressed in a smart, expensive looking suit with a waistcoat and a bow tied at his neck, hishair is noticeably shorter despite the fedora covering it and sitting onhis feet are fancy dress shoes. Phoenix is in the onto the too, with a slysmile on his lips, he's wearing very similar attire except instead of a bowaround his neck there's a tie, he doesn't wear a hat, showing off his hairwhich seems to be a normal colour, parted down the middle andslicked back but it's hard to tell the colour in black and white. Right inthe middle of them is Dahlia wearing a beautiful blue silk gown, a longfur coat covers her, a pearl necklace hangs around her neck, a pair ofwhite gloves cover her hands and a cloche hat with a ribbon around itsits on her short curled hair.

Flipping the picture around there's writing scribbled on the backreading " London, England. June 3 1921. " I bite my lip as I place thepicture back in its box, looking through the things in it I realise thatthere's nothing in here I could use.

Stepping back, I scan the numbers scribbled on the boxes. Pulling outone with 1800 on it, I notice a bunch of handwritten letters, but don'ttouch them, rooting around the box more until I replace a little velvet box. When I open it and see the silver signet ring with a crest on it a grintakes over my face, I quickly place the ring back it the small box which Ishove into my pocket before lifting the box of memories back onto itsplace on the shelf.
