Chapter Thirty Two

Mine and Kai's moans echo through the room as we reach our climaxtogether, screwing my glowing eyes shut, I lean into him to bite downon his neck and he does the same to me.

Panting I roll off of Kai's body, snuggling into him when I'm next to himon the bed. We lay together in silence for a few moments before it'srudely interrupted by Dahlia crashing into the room, she squealsimmediately shielding her eyes when they fall upon her brother and I inbed together, very exposed due to the blanket being tangled in ourlegs.

Kai grabs the blanket in a flash, covering both of our bare bodies. "What do you want Dahlia? *

"1-1. Oh my, I'm officially scarred for life. I am now broken. I- * Shestarts to ramble, her hand still pressed over her eyes.

" Dahlia. " I cut her off. * We're covered now, you can look and say whatyou came in here to say. "

"1 just heard that you had not been well and wanted to check on you,Lila's been worried too. " She confesses, slowly removing her hand fromher face.

Sending her a soft mine, I reply. " I'm fine now, thank you. How havethings been with Lila? *

" Better, I told her everything a few days ago, as you know. She's stillnot completely comfortable here, but she's much less wary toward me.It's a slow process. " She updates us.

"Just be patient with her, it'll be worth it- * my words are cut off myPhoenix crashing into the room.

Kai out of instinct wraps his arms around my body under the coversand pulls me closer to him, dipping his head down to plant a kiss onthe freshly reopened mark on my neck. " Hey guys - whoa, are weinterrupting something? * Phoenix wiggles his eyebrows.

" Phoenix, you're one of the oldest creatures on the earth and yet stillthe most immature. * Dahlia tuts.

I snort loudly, gaining two questioning looks from them. " I meanDahlia you kind of had a minor melt down when you came in here. ""I did not! " She screeches.

" You did Dahlia, now Phoenix what's going on? " Kai interrupts, gettingstraight to the point.

" We have a Clan meeting in fifteen. " Phoenix announces.

I turn to Kai. * Clan meeting? "

He nods. " Everyone meets to bring up any issues they've been having,any threats to the clan, sometimes if someone has found their belovedfrom another clan they may want to invite them into this clan or moveto a new clan, that's a process that needs to be approved by both clanleaders. There's a lot of reasons for them, but we try to have them atleast once a month, sometimes more. *

"You haven't had one since I've been here though and it's been wellover a month. " I point out, confused.

" Yes, uh, I may have been slacking a little lately. " He blushes

" More like a lot. " Phoenix scoffs, reminding me that he and Dahlia areboth still in the room listening in on our conversation.

* Well we'll have one every week this month to make sure everyone isheard and to pick up the slack. " I demand, holding the covers to meclosely as I sit up.

"we? " Kai questions.

" Yeah, I want to be there. You're the clan leader and I am your mate,surely I have a right to help you. " I tell him.

" Actually.. Usually a clan leader, leads alone. * Kai shifts awkwardly atPhoenix's words.

"Why? " I question.

" Well.. Women are seen to be more of a liability when it comes toleading. " He informs, making my mate tense beside me.

"What?! " I gape. " That makes absolutely no sense. "

"It's just seen that a woman will be too emotional and unable to makecertain choices because of that. " Phoenix continues to talk.

My eyes flick to Dahlia who looks just as unimpressed as I do. " Is thisshit for real? *

" Unfortunately. " She grumbles.

" Wait but Maria was a clan leader? " I argue.

" She only became leader after her brother's death, even then she hadto prove herself to earn the loyalty of her clan. " Dahlia explains with adeep scowl.

" Nope! I'm not having it! " I shake my head, throwing myself off of thebed before Kai can pull me back.

Marching past the two siblings in the doorway with my head high, 1 gointo my room, grabbing a few articles of clothing from the closet.Pulling a pair of lace black underwear up my legs, I then clasp thematching bra around my chest. I grumble to myself as I cover my legswith grey acid wash skinny jeans with slits in the knees, tossing a loosewhite tank top over my head.

When Kai enters the room I'm sitting on the edge of my bed jammingmy sock covered feet into a pair of black leather lace up boots. " Youknow it's not my choice about not having beloveds lead side by side. ** Well it's not like you've really done anything about it. " I huff, pickingmyself off the bed and storming into the bathroom, where I pick up mytoothbrush and cover the bristles with paste.

Kai leans against the doorframe watching me. * I'm happy to have youat that meeting Cori, as my equal. "

I don't respond until I finish brushing my teeth. " And what aboutleaders are supposed to lead alone? " I ask him as I coat my lashes inmascara and my lips in balm.

" That doesn't apply to us. " He sighs, moving closer to me as I run myfingers through my tangles waves.

He wraps his arms around me, turning me to him. When my eyes meethis a pang of guilt waves through me as I realise I'm being moody withhim." I'm sorry. " I apologise. " I just.. What if your clan don't agree withus leading together? *

" Trust me, I think very few of them will have a problem with having astrong, beautiful and powerful hybrid standing beside their leader ashis equal. If anyone does.. We'll deal with that if it comes to it. * Hereassures me, placing a kiss to my forehead. " You ready? "

I nod, mumbling out a yes as he grabs my hand and begins to lead methrough the house until we reach the bottom floor, which I've neverbeen to before. The room that we enter is a huge beige stone roomwith fluorescent lighting and at least a thousand black chairs on oneend of the room but only one sitting by itself on the other.

The room just looks like a giant underground auditorium.

Kai leaves me standing alone while he walks over to what looks like asmall storage room, seconds later he's carrying another chair over towhere his sits and places it down beside it.

" Now take your seat my darling. " He tells me, settling into one of thechairs as countless amounts of vampires begin filing into the room.
