Chapter Thirty Four

Corinna

"Yes. " I answer Sabine, deciding that lying wouldn't be the bestapproach considering she would definitely know better.

"I thought there was something off about you the first time we met, nowonder. You're being hunted. Why? " She paces back and forth with herhands laced together behind her back as continues questioning me.

" Because of what I am. " I state simply.

She nods her head. " The hybrid. You know the make it out that thehybrid is a man, why do you think that is? *

" Because too many people underestimate women, to the point thatthey think something as powerful as a hybrid couldn't possibly be awoman. " I answer, causing Sabine to pause and turn to me.

"I'm liking you more by the second, Hybrid. " She sends me a grin, butit quickly faded from her lips. * Now, who exactly is hunting you? "

" My old pack. " I shift on my feet.

" But they're more than your pack.. Aren't they? " She narrows her eyeson my feet.

I nod. " My uncle is the alpha, my cousin is next in line to be alpha andmy.. my father is his Beta. "

" Your family are the ones hunting you? " She looks slightly surprised bythis, but I know a huge part of her knew it was going to be people closeto me, I don't answer just nod. " I apologise for my questions, I waseasing my suspicion of you. I'll let you get back now. "

Without another word she leaves me standing in the room alonethinking of my family, how much they hated me and all of the pain theyhad caused me. I could never understand why running me off wasnever enough for them, why they felt the need to chase me down. I hadmany questions that they could only answer and I would probablynever get those answers.

Sighing, I begin to wander back up through the house to replace Kai.When I replace him he's sitting on the sofa, reading in the living room withPhoenix who is playing on a game console with eyes eyes glued to theTV bolted to the wall, Dahlia sits beside them running her fingers alongthe back of an anxious looking Lila, who's seated practically on her lap.As if sensing me, Kai looks up from his book, his eyes instantly replaceingmine. A smile graces his face as he closes and places the book on thecoffee table in front of him, I stride over to him settling myself down onhis lap.

" You did wonderfully in the meeting my darling. " He kisses my cheek." Oh please, I didn't do anything. " I scoff, wrapping my arm around hisshoulders and tangling my free hand in his.

" Actually, I think you gained the respect of a lot of the clan by standingup to Farrah. " He mumbles, continuing to place kisses on my cheek,then my neck and shoulder.

" Speaking of Farrah, you seem to have a type. " I grumble.

He chuckles. " What do you mean? *

" Black hair, big boobs, bitchy attitude. The three b's if you will. * I sasshim.

He lets out a burst of laughter against my shoulder. " Is someonejealous? *

" Maybe. " I huff.

" There is no need to be my darling, I promise you. " He goes back tokissing my shoulder.l frown, removing my hands from him to pick at myfinger nails. " I don't know Kai. I'm.. " I sigh, lowering my voice so onlyhe can hear me. " She's like a goddess and the two women I've met thatyou've had some kind of relationship are both polar opposites to what Ilook like...

" It's alright to be jealous, to feel insecure, to feel any kind of way butmy darling we are made for each other, my past is just that the past,I've only seen you since the moment you walked into my life and it willcontinue to be that way. You have beauty, brains, such a big heart andso much bravery. The four B's if you will. * He whispers against myshoulder, taking both my hands in his. * Most importantly, I love youand only you. "

I lean into him, resting my head on his chest. " I love you. *

"Mal! "I jump as Olive bursts into the room, looking panicked.Everyone in the room is suddenly on full alert, waiting for Olive tospeak again. Kai and I both stand up, moving over to her. * What'sgoing on Olive? " I ask.

" The wolves, there's a bigger group of them across the lake. They'redemanding you both come out to them. " She rushes her words.

" What makes them think we'll go to them? " Kai shakes his head.

" They have Farrah."

Kai and I both take off running out of the house, Phoenix and Mateowho had been playing pool with another clan member follow closelybehind us, it only takes minutes for us to exit the garden and race tothe edge of the lake.

On the other side a group of at least twenty or more wolves standbehind my uncle who has Farrah pinned against his front with a handwrapped around her neck and a stake directed toward her heart, mycousin stands beside him with a mischievous grin on his face, but whenmy eyes fall on my father my heart drops.

Helena is on her knees in front of my father with shackles on her handsand a rope tied around her neck like a leash, he stares across the lakewith emotionless eyes, looking completely indifferent as he holds ablade against Helena's neck under the robe that seems to be restrictingher air flow.

Without realising I had started to move towards them but Kai's handflies out, gripping my arm to stop me. * What do you want? * Kaispeaks, not needing to raise his voice due to everyone here exceptHelena having supernatural hearing.

" To warn my dear niece. " My uncle sends a fake smile toward me,making my stomach churn.

" Let them go Cain. " I demand.

My words are only met with a chorus of laughs from my uncle andcousin, my father stays emotionless. " Why would we do that? " Mycousin Elliot chuckles.

"1 wasn't speaking to you runt. " I snarl.

Elliot lets out a growl. * I will rip OUT YOUR HEART! * He screams.

" Did I touch a nerve? " I smirk at him.

" Enough! " My father barks. * Do what we came here to do Cain. "

" That's Alpha to you. " My uncle hisses. * You may be my brotherThomas, I make the demands, not you. "

"If you're done, state your business. " Kai interrupts their arguing.

" We're just here to remind our dearest Corinna of what happens to thepeople she seeks help from. " My uncle narrows his eyes with a sick grinon his face, exposing his yellow teeth to us.

My heart begins to race at his words. I try to move forward but Kaiholds me back again. " Kai, please you don't understa- " I begin to pleabut I cut myself off with a scream as my father slides the knife acrossHelena's throat.

My sobs echo loudly through the woods as I watch my friend's body hitthe floor, I call out for her as she bleeds out, the last words that passher lips are a name. I scream and cry while struggling against Kai's hold,who does his best to console me.

" We will come back and we will cut down every soul who has come toyour aid, just as we have many times before, but this time Corinna wewill make you watch us end your bloodsucker mate and every memberof his clan and then we will end you. " My father growls.

He then turns his back to us, walking away the wolves parting to let himthrough. I drop to my knees, my sobbing becomes uncontrollable as Istare across the lake into my friend's lifeless eyes, unable to look away. Ibarely notice that Farrah has managed to get free and leap across thelake, I also barely notice as my uncle and his wolves turn and follow myfather back into the woods.
