Chapter Fourty One

Corinna

" How badly is she hurt? " I ask Jack, dropping to my knees on theground at Gia's feet.

" One of them bit her. " He says darkly, his voice breaking. His eyesnever lift from his mate, who is breathing heavily and starting to passout. " Gia, please stay awake. " He begs her, shaking her gently, hereyes snap back open.

"I'm okay. " She whispers weakly.

"It's fine, I'll give her my blood it will heal her. " Kai calls from behindme, he is on the ground by my side in a flash.

" No, you don't understand! " Jack growls loudly.

" Tonight is a full moon Kai, She's human and she was bitten. " Imumble.

"1 don't get it. " He shakes his head.

" Even if you were to try to heal her, it wouldn't take. When a human isbitten on a full moon, it's to turn them, I don't know if that was actuallythe intention of the rogues or if it was just to get Gia to scream so wewould all come out here. Regardless, when the moon rises tonight, shewill either shift or she'll. " I trail off, closing my eyes as I take a deepbreath, trying to control my emotions.

* Or she'll die. " Kai whispers, finishing what I couldn't say making menod.

"It's fine, Jack, it's fine. I'm your mate so my chances are higher, I'll befine. " Gia insists, her skin is clammy and pale, not making her wordsseem like they have any truth to them at all.

" Gia you don't get it, I wasn't the one who bit you. Your chances onlygo up if I was the one who bit you. " He cries, smoothing back herblood and sweat matted hair from her face.

Lifting my head, I look around to see the warriors have now all shiftedback and are standing around with worried, sorrowful expressions asthey watch their Alpha cradling their Luna.

Taking a breath, I push myself up off the ground. * Someone go andinform the pack healers what's happened and that your Luna is on herway. " I demand, looking around at them, they all just stare at me for acouple of seconds, wondering if they should be taking orders fromanyone who isn't their Alpha, but a woman among the group shifts intoher wolf, taking off through the woods.

"Jack. " I call out, gaining his attention. " Pick your mate up and bringher to get treatment so she has the best possible chance of gettingthrough this. *

He nods, his face instantly turning to one of determination as picks hismate up into his arms and marches in the same direction the femalewarrior went just moments ago. Kai and I follow behind him and hiswarriors until we reach the hospital, where Jen is running around with acouple of nurses and other healers, setting up everything they can tohelp their Luna.

As we walk toward the hospital, Kai stops me right as I feel a warmliquid running over my lips. Lifting my hand, I brush my fingers overface, when I pull my hand back, it's coated in blood

" Are you okay my darling? " He asks, his eyes brimming with worry.

" Yeah, yeah I'm fine. " I shrug it off and try to continue walking, only forhim to stop me again.

" No, you're not Cori, You're bleeding profusely from your nose. " Heargues.

"I'm fine. " I scoff, only to regret it when I burst into a coughing fit thatresults in me vomiting up blood.

" You're fine? You think that this is fine? " Kai fumes, pointing towardthe blood splattered across my hand, arm and the ground.

" Look, I just took down a bunch of rogues by fire. Some spells can taketheir toll, right now I just need to make sure Gia survives this alright? " Ihuff, marching off in the direction that Jack and his warriors went.

Kai sighs but follows anyway. " Please just get checked by the doctorlater on? Please? " He begs, I mumble an agreement just as we reachthe hospital.

Gia is immediately rushed through a pair of double doors to be lookedafter and it only takes a few minutes for Jack to be kicked out into thewaiting room with Kai, the warriors and I for snapping at the doctors.Eventually the warriors leave to tend to their duties, but I stay plantedon my seat across from Jack. Who as the hours pass by gets more andmore anxious, shaking his leg rapidly when he is seated, pacing theroom when he gets fed up of being seated and consistently running hishand either down his face or through his hair.

The entire time, I don't say anything to him, knowing there is nothing Icould say to ease his panic. Kai makes trips to and from the house tocheck on me, or bring us water and snacks and at one point myoversized knitted cardigan when he went to hold my hand and realisedI was cold.

The double doors to the reception area swing open revealing a verytired but pleased looking Jen, Jack and I both jump to our feet, rushingover to her. " Okay so we stopped the wound from bleeding, got herstabilised, replaced the blood she lost and got plenty of fluids into her,she seems to be in much better shape and hopefully that will meanshe's strong enough to survive the bite. Throughout the time of themoon rising and it fully reaching it's apex, her body will startattempting to shift, as you know, but it would help if there's a calmenvironment and something there to talk her through it. * Jen explainsto the two of us, we both nod along as she does.

"Can I see her? " Jack breathes, glancing through the glass on thedouble doors.

* Of course Alpha, right this way. " Jen smiles, pushing open the doorsand leading us toward Gia's room, which Jack barges into straight awaybut Jen stops me in the hallway.

Turning my head to look at her, I furrow my eyebrows. * What? *

" Do you really think battling rogues is the best idea in your condition?" She asks, raising an eyebrow. * Come on, I'm going to check on youand baby before you go into see the Luna. "
