My Hunted Mate
Chapter Fifty

Corinna

During the car ride home, Dahlia and Lila remain quietly holding handsin the front while Kai explains to me that eight days have passed since Iwas taken, he searched for me nonstop, even tried tracking my scentbut had no luck, until he received a random text message from anunknown number saying where he could replace me.

I did have a mind to voice the possibility that Olive could have been theone behind the message but instead I stay quiet, as silence falls over us,I can't help but place a hand on my bump and think the worst.

The entire drive I've attempted to keep my mind off of it and my eyesoff the blood stains on my pants, but the anxiety I'm feeling is causingme extreme nausea and my heart is aching at the thought of the worstcase scenario, that I can't seem to block out.

After what feels like forever, we finally pull up to the house, the secondKai opens the car door Jen is running out of the house in scrubs and alab coat, followed by a man and a woman, both in scrubs, who I assumeare nurses. Another a man in a lab coat also follows. Instead of trying towalk in my state, I allow Kai to carry me into the house withoutargument.

Jen leads the way up to my bedroom, where she has set up all sorts ofhospital equipment. As soon as I'm placed down onto my bed, I'mbeing hooked up to an ECG and having vials of my blood taken andbeing asked endless amounts of questions.

Starting to get irritated, I grab hold of one of the nurses arms, pullinghim back. * Is my baby okay? " I question.

The nurse flinches in pain at my tight grip, making me remove my holdand apologise. " It's alright Corinna, we're going to do an ultrasoundright now and check on baby. " Jen interrupts, nodding her head to thenurse and then tilting it away from us.

The nurse immediately takes the hint and leaves the room. Jen sets upthe ultrasound machine, while I pull my shirt up to reveal my bump, shesquirts the cold gel onto my stomach and presses the wand to mystomach, moving it around a couple of times.

Kai moves around until he is in the bed beside me, gripping onto myhand, his eyes never leaving the screen in front of us. Jen's eyebrowsfurrow but then she cracks a wide grin just as the sound of a loud, fastand strong heartbeat fills the room

" Your baby is perfectly fine.. I- it's pretty remarkable actually. " Jen says." I think because of your baby's only part wolf, it's witch and vampireside was able to fight off the wolfsbane. "

" But the blood? " I question, confusion taking over me.

" Would have been from the wolfsbane weakening your bodies, butbaby is all healed up and doing great now, we'll keep a monitor on thetwo of you, just to be on the safe side though. * She explains, sendingus both a smile.

My body instantly relaxes against the bed from the relief that fills me.You need plenty of rest, we're going to start a drip to wash thewolfsbane from your system completely and it should be gone withinthe next couple of hours. *

True to her word, Jen starts a line in my hand to clear the wolfsbanefrom my system, I sleep for most of the time, only being woken upwhen the nurses were checking my blood pressure and taking moreblood to see if they were getting the results they wanted from the drip.Kai stays beside me the entire time, refusing to leave my side incaseanything changed with mine or the baby's health. By time the next dayrolls around, I'm being taken off of the ECG and drip and Jen is doinganother ultrasound, this time giving us pictures of the scan.

"I probably won't be seeing you again until the week you're due, sokeep taking it easy and make sure you call me if there's anything youneed. " Jen tells me, as her nurses pack up all of the hospital equipmentthey brought with them.

As Kai and I walk Jen and her coworkers out of the house, I thank themall profusely, along with apologising to the nurse for grabbing his armWe wait until they've all gotten into their cars and driven out of thegrounds to go back into the house.

Once the front door is shut behind us, Kai turns to me. " Are you surethat you're feeling up to this? " He questions, rubbing my arms in asoothing manner.

"I'm more than ready, Kai. Where are they? " I growl.

He nods his head and gestures for me to follow him, we wanderthrough the house until we're on the bottom floor where theauditorium is located, but instead of going through that door, Kaipushes open one of the heavy grey doors across from it.

We enter a cold, dimly lit room with no windows. The walls are allpainted a dark grey but the paint is old and chipped, the cement floorsare covered in plastic, with pools of blood gathered on top of theplastic and right in the centre of the room, a metal chair is bolted to theground.

Sitting in the chair is Olive, paler than usual, with her head hanging low,her legs are bolted and chained to the legs of the chair and her armsare also chained to the arms of the chair.

Her arms have deep cuts on either side, all the way up her arms, withpaper clips lodged in the cuts, Kai explained to me that this is to stopher from healing and to continue to bleed out, keeping her weakenough so she is unable to break the chains binding her in place. When we exit the room holding Olive, we wander to the identical roomright next to it, where the only difference is, instead of Olive being theone bound in the chair, Josephine is replacing her.

" Shut the door. " I demand.
