Chapter 23
Devin eyed the buzzing phone and vennired. “Aren’t you going to answer that, Mr. Brady?”
“Nope, just ignore it. That garl’s a handful, but maybe my dear wife can deal with her. With a chuckle, Trevon switched off his phone, amused by the mental image of that girls clash with Selina. That must be a real spectacle.
A grin spread across Trevon’s face, and Devin found himself smiling too. He couldn’t remember the last time he saw Trevon this cheerful. Selina really seemed to be Trevon’s good luck charm; her presence had brightened up his life in ways Devin hadn’t seen before.
The next day, after waving bye to Trevon, Selina hopped into the Bugatti Veyron he’d given her and ripped off to the airport. She met up with Lyslia, and soon enough, Malcolm swaggered over in his laid–back threads, lugging his suitcase.
“Malcolm!” Selina couldn’t hide her excitement and ran to him for a hug, looking as thrilled as a kid in a candy store.
“It’s been a long time, Selina Malcolm’s irritation melted away as he wrapped her in a warm embrace.
Lydia had scoped out a great restaurant for dinner, and they made small talk on their way. With Malcolm coming into town, Selina gave him the rundown of the minor case and decided to hand it off to him..
“This is a piece of cake; we got this. No one get to mess with Selina without paying for it!” Malcolm declared, slicing into his steak with fervor
“Count me in. Malcolm, I can’t wait to see that guy Manuel squirm in court Anyone who went after Selina was an enemy as far as they were concerned, and enemies deserved to pay dearly,
Seeing the solidarity in her friends expressions, Selina was momentarily lost for words. It had been ages since she felt such staunch support–this was the camaraderie she needed all along, a sharp contrast to the coldness she knew at the Harvey residence.
Just when Selina was about to slip into the restroom, several people approached. Recognizing her, they appeared shocked “Selina? Is that you?!”
Of all the gin joints, Selina hadn’t expected an encounter with Quinton and Sara, especially here. The man with them–dressed in his thirties, sporting gold–rimmed glasses, and toting a briefcase–added to the su

away.
“Selina! Don’t you dare walk away from me!” Quinton’s low growl went unnoticed by Selina. In a burst of anger, he stepped in front of her. “You disrespectful child, how dare you ignore your father like that!”
Only then did Selina grace Quinson with a glance, her eyes blazing with disbelief. “Mr. Harvey, cut out the act. I’m not part of your family. Aren’t you embarrassed, saying this stuff to me?”
“Embarrassed! Without me, you wouldn’t even exist And now you want to sue Manuel! He’s your brother! You’re cold, Selina, heartless. You can never compare with your gentle, kind sister, Quinton jabbed a finger towards her face, his insults turning heads and stirring whispers among the other diners. His anger was palpable, fuming over Selina’s audacity to drag Manuel his son, to trial.
“Honey, take it easy. This isn’t the place to cause a scene, Sara whispered to Quinton, giving Selina an icy once–over. “Selina, how do you even sleep
night! Don’t you feel a shred of guilt!”
Selina shot back without batting an eye. I’m sleeping just fine, thanks. Clear conscience and all. Actually, it’s pretty amusing watching you two freak out over this. Keep it going if you want–it’s your family name and the Harvey company’s rep on the line, not mine.”
Suddenly, they
y remembered Selina was their flesh and blood, and Manuel her big brother. Where was this familial concern when they ignored her. treating her like a burden they had to bear in the Harvey Family? Like having the Harvey family’s blood was some kind of privilege. But now that Selina wanted Manuel to answer for what he had done, they were all about family ties–playing the guilt card and criticizing her. This twisted family dynamic made Selina sick to her stomach, thankful she hadn’t stooped to their level.
Quinton and Sara looked at Selina as if she’d just stepped on their toes. How could she not care when her own brother might spend time behind bar because of her? They worried about the family’s and the company’s image in town reputation was everything, and here was Selina, the black sheep, dragging their name through the mud.
“Selina, remember where you came from. If this gets out, do you think Trevon’s family will just stand by! The Brady family won’t let this slide” Quinton tried to throw Selina off balance by mentioning her in–laws.
Selinu just smirked. “You’re barking up the wrong tree. Mr. Harvey. My husband backs me up 100. He’s running Insight Group like a champ, unlike Harvey Group which seems to be slipping Insight Group’s recent earnings report Through the roof. And hey, if Harvey Group hits a snag over this mess, my hubby might just capitalize on that. Aren’t Harvey Group and Insight Group eyeing the same deal right now?”
“You… teaming up with outsiders against your own family? That’s insane!” Quinton was so livid he looked like he might strike Selina right there. If not for the crowd, he might have gone off the deep end. This girl–ignore her for three days, and she’d act like she owned the place
