Chapter 28
Trevon leaned in, his breath brushing against Selina’s ear while the cool scent of his cologne hit her. She felt chill, not threatened, and locked eyes with him, their gazes mixing like stars shining in the night.
“I’ve noticed how good you are with computers” Trevon said in a low voice, his face reflecting in Selina’s eyes which sparkled like the evening sky “Your skills kinda remind me of someone I’ve worked with before… goes by the name Charm.”
Selina felt her heart skip a beat. She was not aware that she had worked with Trevon. But everything on the Dark Web was anonymous–hackers got picked by their reputation, and the number one rule was they never dug around about their clients. They just did the job, got the thumbs up, got paid, and that was that. If they broke that rule, deals got trashed, and if they were really unlucky, they might end up with hitmen on their tail for the rest of their days. So yeah, Trevon could’ve crossed paths with Charm and Charm never knew it was Trevon
But Selina never saw it coming that Trevon would drop Chan’s name right then—and expecially not tie Selina to Charm. She tried to play it cool. telling Trevon, “I don’t know what you’re on about, Trevon” His look was like a laser, reading her mind or something. It was as if anyone he stared down would get their secrets spilled–and him just saying that rame sent an uneasy shiver through her, making her breath catch. Somehow, she felt she said the wrong words.
“Honey, you must’ve heard of Charm, the top hacker on the Dark Web, right Trevon said with a sly grin, his fingers tapping Selina’s lips that had gone alle pink “Your smarts are spot on, but lying? You gotta work on that”
Selina clammed up, rattled by his jab. Deep down, she knew that no pre hacker would be dueless about Charm, the Dark Web’s big shot. By playing dumb about Charm, she was practically waving a flag saying, “Yep, that’s me!” The last thing she wanted was to blow her cover, especially in front of Trevon. And her fellow students couldn’t know either. The Dark Web was had news, and she was trying to keep them safe. “For real, I don’t know about the Dark Web or this Charm. The harking? I just taught myself–got lucky, that’s all. You’d back me up if it went south, right? Selina tried to
fake it.
“You’re quite the whiz, being self–taught and all. I really hit the jackpot with you,” he said, then slid back into his seat
Selina’s mind was racing, trying to guess if Trevon bought her story or still thought she was Charm. For now, all she could do was go with the Dow Trevon watched Schina closely, catching her off guard. Her uncertainty amused him, bringing out a quick, sly smile. He thought. Is she that worried Id uncover her secret? To Trevon, it was like a thrilling new game.
They pulled up to the Brady manor, each caught up in their own plots. The driver opened the door, and right before Selina stepped out, Trevon threw out, “Shouldn’t you grab my hand when you get out, honey?”
Selina hit her lip, and then linked arms with Trevon. They walked out, all Laughs and smiles, playing the lovey dovey c
couple.
Black at the house, Selina pulled Trevon aside and stood on her toes to whisper, Trevon, if you ditched the deal with the Thompson Group just to have
my back–and it cost you wish you hadn’t. Caleb’s wreck was nasty, he’ll be in the hospital for ages. He’s already got his dur”
“You still don’t get it, do you, honey?” Trevon said, stealing a glance at her. His check brushed against her hair, his voice wrapping around her. “Doing this for you—it’s a no–brainer. You’re my wile. If someone messes with you, they clearly don’t see me. You crush the bad guys, and you’re happy, right? So, shouldn’t I be happy with you in my wa
Selina felt both spoiled and protected by Trevon. She pressed her lips together. “You’re kinda intense, ya know, with all this claiming and guarding vibe you’ve got going”
“Is that bad, honey?”
“Not at all, it’s awesome, thanks, hubby. Off to shower for me–I’m wiped. Catch ya later Selina took the chance to dart off, trying to shake the worry about Trevon figuring out she was actually Chirm
But Trevon knew. He saw right through her flimsy disguise and figured out that Charm was Selina herself. He watched her scamper away. pretending to be just another harmless face in the crowd.
Just then, Devin walked up. “Mr. Brady, Ms. Nora Brady dropped by to see Mrs Brady earlier. I told her you both were out. After hanging around for an hour, she split, not too happy. Says she’s coming back tomorrow
Trevon, thinking about his half–sister, Nora Brady, couldn’t help but sotien up a bit. That little troublemaker… Let her hang with Selina. We’re all gonna be one big family soon enough”
Back in her room, Selina didn’t rush to shower. She grabbed the laptop Lydis hooked her up with and dived into the Dark Web, Like a boss, she doubled down on her hacker alter–ego, making double–sure her personal info hadn’t leaked out. Breathing a sigh of relief, she figured as long as she was on her A–game, Trevon couldn’t put a finger on her secret life,
Right then, an alert flushed on her screen. It was a message from the Dark Webis head honcho. Selina clicked and found a new gig, calling out to Charm by name, offering big bucks. To the top dog hacker like Chirm, the payout was killer. Plus, Charm had a reputation for not touching jobs that d screw over her country or hurt its folks.
