Chapter 29

Selina’s mentor always told her straight–in this world, she gotta have her own rules. Didn’t sweat getting stronger or shouldering more weight, but never stomped on her own values or dinched her conscience. With her mad skills, Selina could’ve gone rogue–a total nightmare, losing herself untill she was as good as a walking dead. She took those words to heart and lived by them from day one on the Dark Web. Most jobs Charm took were about swiping secrets from companies or fighting off other hackers. Her big name brought in the crowds, otherwise, with laying down some serinus law, she’d never land any gigs. The Dark Web crowd, people throwing up jobs, weren’t any saims.

Many people wanted to dig up who Charm really was, hoping to snag her for themselves. Her reputation alone freaked out the big shots. This gig though… it was all about snatching back a secret file Frehur had swiped from Clusia, Deadline: 24 hours. They needed Selina and fast.

This caught Selina off guard–she quirked an eyebrow. She’d been Charm for two years and jobs like this, they just didn’t come by often. Bigwigs usually didn’t even bay that Dark Web hackers were real deals. But since they hit her up desperately, she thought that paper had to be hot. Selina mulled it over for a second, and then shot back a message [OK]

The admin hooked her up with the client, all anonymous–like. They hammered out the gig details, double–checked who she was, and the payout. Then Selina got cracking, working through the night.

Came first light. Selina stretched out the kinks and sent the stolen secrets to the buyer. A quick cleanup of her tracks, and she was a ghost, Buyers didn’t see that kind of speed every day. Took them a good ten minutes to reply: [Thank you.]

Charm: [Money talks. I fix messes, zero fuss]

The buyer: [Hope to team up again down the road

After stashing the cash in her account. Selina didn’t think twice before giving it away to a charity in the mountains-a cause close to her heart. Then she beaded for a much–needed shower.

Whenever Selina made bank from her cyber gigs, especially those connected to Clusia, she made sure the cash helped out her homeland. That was one of the rules she set for herself as a Dark Web hotshot. She couldn’t turn down the dough without blowing her cover, but by funneling it back home, she felt like she was doing her pari–rounding out a good turn

But what Selina didn’t know was that her cash flow was raising eyebrows.

“Right on the nose, Captain Brady. Every time Cham takes on a heavy–duty job for Clusia, the bucks end up with this group in Clusia that helps. out the hill folk,” an intelligence dude reported after poking around. This charity’s squeaky clean. They don’t play with dirty money, and they barely skim enough to keep the lights on D’s pretty much a beacon of hope in charity these days” He wrapped up his report and looked at the seasoned gentleman behind him. “Captain Brady, you’re probably right–Charm might just be from Clusia. But with all her cash coming from abroad and her skill at hiding her tracks, peeling back Charm’s mask ain’t gonna be easy”

“That’ll do. Just knowing Clunn’s got Clusian roots and a heart for her country is plenty Samuel Brady reflected, a thoughtful glini in his eyes. From the minute Charm made wares on the Dark Web, moving up the ranks like nobody’s business, she had everyone curious. They were hooked not just by her mind–blowing tactics but because she stuck to her guns like no other hacker around–steering clear of messing with her country or hurting its people, which was rare and cared respect. Without those crazy skill, Charm wouldn’t last a minute in the web’s cutthroat scene.

Samuel had been digging for Charm’s real deal for ages, even feeling a bit bummed when she vanished. But now she was back, and Samuel’s gut was telling him she was Clasian through and through Hauling her in and getting her to work for Clusia would be the jackpot. But he knew reeling ber in had to be done with care, nice and dow

Just then, Samuel’s phone buzzed. He pinched his nose, sighed, and saw his daughter’s name pop up. He hit the answer button, “Nora, what’s up? Why you calling so carly!

“Dad, you’re out of the loop. Trevon’s gone and got himself hitched How come you, his dad, know allch about his own wedding! And you’re still drowning in work!” Nora’s voice crackled with a tease.

“Trevon Hinched!” Samuel was caught off guard. Trevon usually avoided romance like it was poison ivy, so picturing some gal snagging Trevon’s heart was tough. Samuel half–chought Nora was just yanking his chain.

“Okay, okay. Since you’re not on top of Trevon’s love life, I’ll take charge. I’m crashing the Brady manor today to see this new sister–in–law who’s won Treven over! Catch ya later,”

The call ended, and Samuel let out a heavy sigh. Trevon’s got a girl, and 1 didn’t even know… Guess I’ve been ignoring the family too much.

The folks working for Samuel piped up. “Captain Brady, you should take a break and head home. You’ve been locked down in this institute for weeks–don’t forget your family. How about going home for a meal and some catch–up?

He nodded. “I’ll leave things with you then. With the Charin puzzle piece sorted, Samuel figured it was high time he chilled with his family.

Meanwhile, after breakfast. Selina was sweating it out at the gym.

0 Soon enough, Devin came over, saying, “Mrs. Brady, Ms. Nors Brady’s here to see you.” Then he added, “Just so you know, Nora is Mr. Brady’s kind- hearted half–sister, not like the snooty Hudson famuly.”“

“Got it.” Selina braced herself to meet Trevon’s kin. She dabbed off her gym sweat changed into comfy clothes, and headed to the living room

And there was Nora, decked out in a frilly get–up, two ponytails, a maid band white socks, cute red flats, and swinging an adorable bunny purse. She pranced around with a bounce, and upon spotting Selina, she skipped over, eyes all sparkly, “Selina, I’m so pumped to finally meet you
